A hidden gem! Ordered the Creamy Pesto Spaghetti off the hidden menu followed with a glass of white wine! The ambiance was peaceful, eclectic and welcoming!

This place is a great find! A hidden gem with a dedicated staff of two. We had the Chicken Saltimboca and it was really really tasty. We also had the Rigatoni which was a wonderful mix of flavors. The chocolate cake is next… yum!

What a find. From the staff to the food this was excellent. The chef was also friendly. We found this by chance cruising thru Unilocal. It’s in an old mill by the Eugene Amtrak train station. Overall, the rigatoni pasta with sausage, kale and figs in a cream sauce was 5 stars!!! So was the Chicken Ossobucco sandwich. You should try it. We will be back soon when we come back to Eugene.

I have eaten at Baker Butcher three times now, and the most recent visit unfortunately dropped my rating from 3 stars to 2. For the most part, the service is ok… There are a few small issues(for example, soup should come well before the entrée, not after… Now the Bolognese sits while I hurry to finish the soup). The server disappeared directly after taking my order, never to be seen again. Drinks got no refills(because there was no one there besides the cook!) As I was sitting at the bar, it was strange.(I do realize this is food court style eating, but if you are going to build a counter or bar, expect customers to expect drink service). Speaking of soup, the Kale and white bean offering is watery, bland and overly tastes of beans. Will not be ordering it again. No side of veg or salad offered with the main dishes, but is with the sandwiches? I came away feeling overcharged(17.00 for Bolo + soup) and would likely recommend Ambrosia, Bepe & Giannis, or maybe even Mazzis(and I never recommend Mazzis) before I would send a friend to Baker Butcher. Location is good, and after awhile I will give them another go. But for now a solid 2 star rating.

The orichette with dates and kale, sausage and a light cream sauce is so unique. Wonderful fresh food that is very interesting and different. We love this for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere at 5th Street is a fun, upscale food court with many choices. Everything at Baker Butcher is made fresh. I’ve tried most of the menu – amazing.

Was considering this place for my daughter(s) birthday dinner. I talked to the owner about an Italian dish called gnocchi my «Noni»(aka:grandmother) used to make for family gatherings and asked if he knew of it. He knew exactly what I was talking about! Matter of fact… he made some for me to try a few days later. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! He added a bit of a twist to it, but it was as good as my Noni used to make and that is impossible to live up too! We ended up booking a twelve person dinner for the birthdays. The food people raved about! The hospitality by the owner and the other employee was unbeatable! You’ve got to try this place!

To be honest… I work there. And I would not if I didn’t enjoy the food and crew! Every cook like everybody, has a different pallet. But I have to say, I’m happy to cook and plate in that small lil kitchen. The happiness of your meal is unexplainable to the joy of forging it for you! This is not an advertisement. But my thoughts. And all of 5th street market has talented cooks/chefs.

I saw a post on Eugene foodies(I think) revealing a kale and sausage rigatoni on special and came down. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce to die for. I LOVE pasta and struggle to find someone else to make it for me. I hope there is always a pasta dish here.

Great homemade food and a delish chocolate cake dessert! Best meatball sub I’ve ever had! Kids meals were really good — no complaints by my picky eaters.

I wanted to like it more. The people working there were so sweet and helpful. I won a free dinner and drink there so I raced down after a rough day. I ordered the Sausage, kale and white bean soup first, with the steak and potatoes as my main dish. The soup was disappointing. It was not very warm and the flavor was not my favorite. It tasted way too much like beans. I didn’t really taste a lot besides that. I recently had a white bean, kale and bacon soup at The Glenwood and I was looking for it to taste more like that. The steak and potatoes were very good. It came drizzled with pesto and olive oil and was seasoned very well. The steak was well cooked and cut into thin slices which I liked. The potatoes were also cooked well and worked well for me to mix in the pesto and olive oil. The pasta looked great and I wish I could have tried it, but alas I am diabetic and pasta is hard on the old blood sugar. All in all I would not steer you away. Maybe just have a salad or appetizer instead of the soup.

Not only suited in a fraternity of international cafes this restaurant has the spice, the style, the presentation and most important the taste. I patronized the Meatball Sub sandwich which included the perfectly seasoned and cooked meatballs in this goldened encrusted bread with quality spaghetti sauce. The cheese is what sets up the sand which so perfectly. It’s not to much nor is it too little with all the compliments of the salad sprayed with fresh cut Parmesan. What a perfect meal to a perfect day.

I love the location — great place to shop and dine! The market special soup was sweet potato. Had that with a yummy non-typical grilled cheese sandwich and a mug of plum cider. Daughter had one of the pasta dishes. The cinnamon rolls looked great, but no room for sweets once we ate our meals. We’ll be back!

This place was ok I don’t think it wowed my enough in flavor to come back Plus the prices are way too high I got the Caesar salad it was good Also got the bolognese and first few bites were good but then after it wasn’t that great. Noli is way better and I wish I would have spent my money there. There wasn’t many people and I sat at the bar. The staff was friendly and the place really clean.

Such a fab little spot to stop off and grab a bite to eat. Amidst the hustle and bustle of shoppers, diners and business professionals this little spot gives you the excuse to stop for a moment, breathe and inhale a delicious meatball sub dripping in homemade marinara sauce. The asparagus tomato risotto is a lively aroma of spices and has a wonderful silky smooth mouthfeel. The light crunch of asparagus reminds you of the past summer when all your favorite vegetables were in season. Top all this off with one of their homemade shortbread or chocolate chip cookies or even better moist chocolate cake… yeah I said moist.

I’ll be the first to say that i’m not a big pasta guy, in fact I think most pasta dishes are over rated. But this dish… the Orecchiete… has humbled me. Holy EFF this thing is perfection of interesting little thumb print like pastas what holds the sauce so well with a creamy butter sauce, sausage, kale, chopped dates and peas. Yes, Peas. I hate peas. But why is this dish so good???

I was bouncing back and forth between 2&3 stars for about 5 minutes before writing this review. The end of each Quarter at work, we go out for food and drinks to celebrate the victories and mentally prepare for what’s ahead the following Quarter. Baker Butcher was suggested and this is where we had lunch. We got here around 11:30 the Friday before Christmas. There was roughly 15 of us. When we arrived, I was prepared for a tasty IPA. They have a rather limited selection here, however I was happy to give the Worthy IPA a run. The Worthy IPA was poured and it was a bright, BRIGHT yellow color. The color which is so familiar from my previous years of drinking lagers. I’ve been surprised before, so I gave it a sip. This wasn’t an IPA. I did mention something, however my suggestion wasn’t acknowledged. Oh well. The Ninkasi NWA was on point though. I’m positive that the wrong Keg was put in the cooler. I say this because my friend brought over a 6 pack of Worthy IPA to my house THATNIGHT. When poured it came out a darker color, as most IPA’s appear. I knew the kegs were incorrect for sure at that point. That was pretty minimal in my experience here to be honest. On to the food… I ordered the Chicken Zitti. I give the dish itself 3 stars, A-OK for sure. I’ve had way better Italian food, and I’ve had way worse. So 3 stars it is. The Vodka Sauce was a bit thin, however had a good taste with a slight bite right at the end. The Penne Pasta was cooked perfectly, and the Parmesan was plentiful. Why will I not be going back? Food Poisoning. I woke up at 7am the very next day SICK to my stomach. Dizzy, Nauseated, Dehydrated… I had it all. This was pretty aggressive as it took me about 4 – 5 days to snap out of it. It’ll be pretty hard to justify another visit after this… however they did have a steak sandwich that looked delicious, i’m kicking my own ass for not getting that instead.

I’m surprised to see such good reviews for Baker Butcher, but maybe I ordered the wrong thing or they were having a bad day? I got their carbonara today, and it was without question the most bland pasta dish I’ve ever eaten. I wish I was exaggerating, but even trying to dip a little bread into it I simply couldn’t get any flavor from the sauce. Bordering on bizarre… I suppose it wasn’t bad, but in the same way that water isn’t bad, it just tastes like nothing. Conceptually the dish was not much better since a Carbonara should never be cream-based, and as far as execution goes: The sauce had separated and looked somewhat unappealing. I guess I’ll come back and try something else some time. They have a Bolognese which I love, but it was described as «spaghetti, pomodoro» on the menu which makes no sense either, since there is very little tomato in a Bolognese sauce. Sounds more like it would be a meat-marinara sauce. That butcher plate in someone’s Unilocal photo looks amazing though, I’d love to try that some time. I really wish Noli hadn’t moved, since they’re not open for lunch in their new location, and Noli had truly authentic Italian food, exactly as you’d find it anywhere in Tuscany.

Fantastic new place in the Fifth Street Market food court. Rustic Italian fare — high quality and very authentic. Excellent flavor in all the dishes we tried. Excellent addition to this location!
