Ask The Bug Man

Very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Definitely knows what they are talking about! Had a rat problem in the house I JUST moved into, talked with the guy from Ask The Bug Man, answered all my questions, came out, took care of the problem! Haven’t seen one since! =D THANK YOU! ! Bug Man!

Wow, I’m still fuming from being called an «a-​hole» and hung up on by the proprietor of this business (Dave) today.
This review is a warning about the unprofessional and incompetent «service» provided by Ask the Bug Man. Either that or they are wholesale charging people for pest control services they don’t provide; I leave it up to you. The property referenced in this review is located in Springfield, OR.
In short, after a $ 100+ initial consultation appointment and a few visits they stopped calling, they stopped showing up, but continued sending bills with a supposed «dates of service.» As part of the «service» you are supposed to receive a phone call when the technician is coming by so you can: open gates, put away animals, not freak out there is a man in your yard… seems pretty basic right? I know they have my number; they used to call it and it’s listed on all of the bills!
In early September when I received a bill for supposed 3 months of past due service in the mail, I got suspicious. I had assumed they stopped coming by. I questioned my tenant vigorously about the dates of service with her being emphatic that no one had been by (she was home all day studying on those dates). After having a pow wow with Dave on the lack of call/​evidence of spraying he have me a discount and cleared out the old bill. I gave them the benefit of the doubt since it is a family business.
In early October, same problem. No phone call, no evidence of visit (there are garbage cans in front of my gate with chalk around the base to see if moved). I again vigorously questioned my tenant whether the pest man had been by.
This time I call to complain and refuse to pay the bill. After much back and forth including his claim that the technician (Dylan) had worked it out with my tenant (he did not — she has never received a call from them despite that her # is listed on the bill). Dave cancels the bill and I thought I canceled the service entirely… no such luck.
Today I receive another bill after no phone call and no evidence of anyone coming by. I called Dave again to refuse to pay for service I have not received. He had no recollection of our several month saga and claimed there were no notes in my customer file. He then claimed I was being unreasonable for not further grilling my tenant about the lack of call/​evidence of spraying. This time the service was supposedly on ¹⁰⁄₂₇ when there are bags of leaves in front of the gate. I’m sure the invisible and silent bug guy moved and put those back when he sprayed my yard! When I called this to Dave’s attention he became unglued and raised his voice to me. I sarcastically complemented his «great customer service» and he hung up on me after calling me an a-​hole.
I don’t know what happened with these guys. I think after the third strike for the same problem, they had to be out.

The first time I spoke to Dave — owner of Ask the Bug Man, he appeared knowledgable friendly and ready to help me with my ant problem. I also informed him I was having issues with spiders and he assured me they would come out 3 weeks after the initial ant baiting and spraying. Well its been a little over a month and the ants are worse than they were before using his service and they never made the trip out to spray the spiders all part of the original 150 quote. I called 3 weeks later to ask about the spider extermination and was told to call back at 4PM. I called and never received a call back. I called again last week and he again asked me to call after 4PM.
THEN THERE WAS TODAY. I called and let Dave know I am still having issues with the ants and he got defensive and his tone was very demeaning like I was a child not listening to his «expertise», I let him know I called twice before and spoke to him. He then argued with me and said he answers every call and doesn’t recall speaking to me. I then told him he asked me to call back after 4PM which he than said he asks people to do that sometimes when he is busy with other clients. I then told him I didnt call to argue with him about whether or not I called I am trying to get help with the ants. He then went on to tell me he is trying to explain and I am not listening and then continued to try and guilt me by telling me he has now missed 5 other calls while being on the phone with me (he just told me he answers every call, well 5 went to voice mail) trying to explain why he now feels he cant do anything about the spiders because I have to chose ants or spiders. I finally got fed up with his argumentative, rude attitude and told him to cancel me form his list.
DONT WASTE YOUR TiME OR MONEY!
Side note: His associate that came out to the house was very nice and friendly. However the TREATMENT DID NOT WORK! They are worse now than before!

CALL ORKIN! We had a persisting problem with roaches. Gentleman from «ask the bug man» came out last year and the disgusting creatures kept coming back. Seemed to get defensive when we tried to tell him they were still lurking around. Called orkin and never saw a roach again after 1 treatment.

I recently cut down a sick looking tree in my back yard. While cutting it down I found termites. I was pretty concerned about them finding their way to my home. I called several local exterminators in Eugene on a Saturday. Dave (I’m pretty sure that’s the owner) called me back promptly. He asked me several specific questions about my situation and the type of termite that I was. He was able to determine what kind of termite it was over the phone. He told me that I didn’t need to worry because this type of termite only goes after rotting wood (therefore I would only need to be concerned if there was dry rot in my home). I got all of this expertise and peace of mind for free. For his expertise and honesty I give him 5 stars and will definitely recommend him to friends and family if the needs ever arises.

We have used them for about 3 – 4 yrs. Dave the owner is horrible to deal with. He speaks to you like your stupid, unprofessional and downright rude. He charged us for services we didn’t receive and when we contacted him about the issue he brushed us off saying he was in Florence and not near a computer. In the past when we were charged for services we didn’t receive he said he would call us back and never did. His son Dylan is very professional and sweet and the reason we continued using them however any interaction with Dave has been the worst! We would rather pay more than deal even 1 more time with the owner.

Each year I have been dealing with a bee problem with a car of mine that tends to sit all the time. The bees get in the door jambs, side mirrors and the trunk, plus under the hood. They don’t actually get «into» the seating area of the car, thankfully. They are always swarming my car.
Last year I decided to do something about it and called Ask the Bug Man. I have an Angie’s List account and found this company to be one of the highly rated pest companies with an A grade, plus a Super Service Award which is given to the top vendors by their customers. I was also looking for a company that used more of an environmental friendly product than most pest companies use, as I am somewhat sensitive to some of these bad chemicals and didn’t want to deal with the odors when I use the car.
David came out and got right to work. He was on time, very professional, and very friendly. He thoroughly sprayed each area plus knocked the bees nests off of the car when he was done. One area we both agreed not to treat was under the hood as the bees had gotten in the vent area and we didn’t want chemicals to come through when I used my heater or air conditioner. (I was able to take care of this area later by running it through the car wash a couple of times as the water destroyed these nests).
David’s pricing was very affordable. I don’t think he was there more than half an hour and he only charged me $ 50. I will definitely be using him again, in fact each year during the spring when the bees come back to my car.
