Murphy’s River Lodge

We just spent 2 nites here. Great location. Loved being able to sleep with windows open & hear the water running outside the room. Such a nice sound.
We had a room with 2 queen beds. Room was a good size. Would of been nice to have had a comfy chair in the room instead of just a straight back chair for the desk.
Room couldn’t have been cleaner! Pretty spotless! Beds were very comfy.
Breakfast was nice as well as the lady who took care of breakfast room.

My family and I stayed here for one night but really thought it was a great place to stay. We arrived late, after hours, and they had a key on the door in a lock box which worked out great and in the morning the breakfast was very nice. The staff was great and answered all our questions about the area and things to do. Then when we checked out they took a picture of us on the Big chair and printed it and put it in a frame which I now have on my desk which I enjoy very much. O and we saw a Bear.

My then fiancé and I booked this place to stay when having our wedding in the area. After booking it many of our family members also booked rooms there. It ended up being the perfect place for us all. There is a huge lawn area with a couple fire pits and lawn games that ended up being perfect for hanging out with everyone before and after the event! We loved the bean bag toss. Breakfast was good, I’ve never seen hard boiled eggs at a continental breakfast before. To top it all of the staff was amazing!!! Everyone was extremely friendly and professional. We will definitely be returning to stay with them on our next trip to Estes!!!

My wife and I had a great stay at Murphy’s. From the reviews it seemed good, but we got more than we expected. The extras that put it over the top were the nice front desk staff (shout out to Javier), the breakfast (more than you’d think), the location, and the free rentals (DVDs, others).
If you’re looking for an option just below a full condo rental, this is the place to go.

From start to finish, my two girlfriends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Every single interaction I had with the staff was exceptional. It was refreshing to encounter such genuinely friendly people! They were also nice about accommodating our requests for a slightly earlier check in and a slightly later check out. Thank you!
This lodge is a little pricier than some of the other hotels around here but you get what you pay for. We requested a room with a view of the river on Expedia and they honored that request. I loooooved the view from our balcony! My favorite part of our stay was just sitting out there enjoying the view and hearing the rush of the river while munching on some grub. I can highly recommend room 202.
Bed was comfy. Sleeper sofa was fine although we could not figure out for the life of us how to put it back. It was a easy walk to the main street with all the shops and restaurants. We didn’t get to enjoy the DVD collection or games available to borrow in the main office but I thought that was a nice touch. Nothing to complain about with breakfast. Enjoyed the hard boiled eggs they had available.
At the end of our stay, what a pleasant surprise to be gifted with a photo of us on the chair with a picture frame! It was the cherry on top for our stay. Would definitely consider staying here again my next trip out to Rocky Mountain National Park.

WOW — what a surprise. Yes, everything in Estes Park is overpriced, but last weekend’s stay was a refreshing surprise: The staff was super nice, the room was spacious and spic and span clean, though dated (but who cares). It beats out all the numerous other places that I stayed in Estes Park throughout the years. I will definitely be back.

Very nice people. Clean recently renovated rooms. Stayed in lower river condo. Fireplace is a nice touch. Would stay here again for sure! Only drawback is that TV is in living area, so you can’t watch from bed. It would be an easy fix for one to be added to bedroom. Major plus to be on the river and to have elk walking by the window.

We had to cancel last minute, day of our reservation due to weather and they couldn’t of been more helpful and understanding. I am very appreciative of this. Thank you so much! I will be sending people your way!

It’s a 3 minute drive to busy Elkhorn St. I really thought it was so cool that we could rent DVDs from the front office for free. The room was modern and had all the amenities — even an iron /​ironing board. Tranquil creek runs through the back. Breakfast was continental, and included in our stay! Lastly, the manager took our picture on the enormous rocking chair, and gave us a printed photo to keep. Amazing service.

We spent an awesome weekend in Estes and Murphy’s was the perfect place to stay! Very family friendly, the kids loved the pool and hanging out by the river. Our room was perfect– very clean and spacious with extra comfy beds! The continental breakfast filled us up both days and the entire staff was extremely helpful and friendly during our entire stay! We will definitely be back! It’s the best place that we’ve stayed while in Estes Park!

Outstanding value for the area. We had excellent and informative service when checking in. Very friendly and helpful. We even got to meet the adorable pug that lives there. The grounds are well maintained. The room was much nicer than expected. Clean and comfortable. Coffee/​tea in room and all other expected ammenities. They have a huge collection of DVDs in lobby. Free to use in DVD player in room. Free breakfast in a very clean, nice room with eggs, pastries, fruit, yogurt, etc. We ate lots of good food before backpacking. Awesome place. I will stay there every time if they have a vacancy

Loved Murphy’s River Lodge! We stayed in a king river room and it was spacious with a sitting area, a fireplace, a kitchen and a bedroom area. The view outside the room was also gorgeous (mountains, the river, though just slightly off the road). The bed was comfy and I got my first 9 hour night of sleep I’ve gotten in awhile here. The staff was also friendly and the variety at breakfast was decent.
A few quick notes:
The pet policy is pretty strict; you’re not supposed to leave Fido in the room unattended.
If you’re cheesy like we are, take a picture in the big rocking chair.
Loved Murphy’s and will be back!

Beds are very comfortable, small room but we didn’t spend a lot if time in it. Staff was friendly and very helpful when looking for a good place to eat. Continental breakfast was a good size as had a good selection of foods. Maid staff was fast as efficient. Renovations were underway so room selection was limited.
Only real complaint was our door had a whistle (very loud and not fixable) with the winds that pick up over night.

The rooms here were really big — we stayed one night in a king room on the creek side. The bed was super comfy and everything was clean. The bathroom was small but you had a huge desk and mirror in the room to spread out if you needed to.
Had a fridge, coffee station, and a sweet TV too. We will be back!

We had a 2 night reservation but once we saw it we asked for one more night. Annette the manager on site was wonderful, showing us what room we could have for 3 nights. Loved it, very clean, right on the river.

Really nice lodge, inexpensive and you get some nice perks. They have a good continental breakfast with pastries, cereals, teas, oatmeal and fruit. They also have a wide variety of DVDs you can rent for free.
I travelled with my dogs and the pet friendly room I stayed in was spacious and clean. They have a heated pool, and hot tub. In the summer it will be great to hang out at one of the picnic tables along the river. Just a couple drawbacks– I think they control the heat, I couldn’t find a thermostat in the room and the wall unit only blew cold air. It was ok, but I would have made the room warmer. Also the shower was unpredictable. When I showered in the morning the hot water came in and out, and it was difficult to find the right spot on the dial that wasn’t too hot or too cold.
The lodge is very close to shops and within blocks of the shops downtown. The staff should get 5 stars for their kindness and hospitality. I highly recommend staying here in the Spring or Summer, and could see myself coming back and staying here again during that time of year.

We really enjoyed our stay. The Lodge is within walking distance of town, and we really loved waking up to Elk snacking on grass in the field across the street.
The rooms are clean, the staff is courteous, and the service is impeccable. I mention the service because they offer free DVD movies for loan in the lobby, there are coupons to a variety of restaurants and attractions in town, and, up in the dining area, they have books and games either to borrow or enjoy right there.
We went up on a Groupon, so I don’t know how affordable the Lodge is otherwise, but I’m sure that prices vary throughout the year. Going during the slower months definitely has its benefits. If you go during the winter, however, you may not want to pay the extra upgrade price to be on the river. We did, and it was too cold to enjoy the deck we paid for. The river was running, and we could see it from our room, but it was mostly under ice, and not really that romantic.
I will caution you that the bathrooms are just as small as reviewed. The tubs are really, really tiny, and there is not enough room for more than one person to be in the bathroom at a time. So, if someone is brushing teeth or putting on make-​up. everyone else has to wait. Other than that, the room was ample size, and the bed comfortable. Just note that there may be feathers in some of the pillows, and, if you are allergic, you will want to have those removed.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!
This place was just our speed for a vintage lodge-​like motel. The whole family visited summer 2011. It is close enough to easily walk (for most folks) to all the shops and restaurants downtown, but because it’s not directly in the middle of it all, the rates are a little more reasonable.
It’s an older place that has recently been updated. The guest rooms have been updated with carpet, tile, curtains, and bedding that will surround you with the modern earth-​tones most of us expect today.
The «lodge» is laid out with a two-​story guest room structure that wraps around, in a square fashion, the parking lot while the office building is in the middle. All the buildings have been updated as well with fresh paint in shades of brown. Though updated, we personally enjoyed the sound of walking around on the wood balconies… somewhat creaked a little. Some of the railings were worn smooth. We love an older place. The more history a place can get under its belt, the more character and charm it seems to have.
The property backs up to a creek roaring right out of the mountains. Very nice. Get a room at the back of the «square» to have a balcony or patio if you’d like to take advantage of the relaxing sights and sounds.
The staff was very nice. We felt like we were staying with friends.
They have a great continental breakfast with cereal, danishes, fruit, bagels, juice, coffee, etc. The set up is cool, too. On the second level, sort of a loft above the pool, the breakfast is in a kitchen area with lots of tables, a fireplace, a TV, microwave, sink, and a small selection of books and board games.
Cautions: In the updated, guest room bathroom, there was only a single, round, extension wall mirror. I thought it was cool, but any women who rely on larger mirrors may not like it. The breakfast area is on the second level which is not a big deal for most, but anyone who does not like to or cannot climb stairs will not like this arrangement. Parking is tight – If you are traveling with two cars, there may not be a space for both. With this known, it’s not enough to keep me away.
In the end, it was just right. I hope to stay again.
