I stumbled across the Hillcrest market and I ran into the La Isla Ceviche stand. One of the owners(Monica) told me the story of the origin of the delicious fresh ceviche, it goes back to when she is a kid. The ceviche is so fresh, crisp, perfect amount of lemon and jalapeños. Add some tapatio and it’s a done deal. Ceviche is usually a tapa but for me it’s a more than ideal meal on its own. Just add on a beer and a massage afterwards I am a happy man. She told me that they sell at different locations, I remember her telling me she sells at La Jolla and Palm Springs! It’s getting big… the ceviche speaks for its self.

Who does not love the freshness and lemony taste of a great ceviche? I think that combination of seafood, veggies, citrus and other herbs and spices is of the taste of anyone who has the pleasure to try it out. I still remember the first time I tried in Baja, some years ago. I am a fan of this appetizer(sometimes is a lunch for me) since then. I was grateful surprised to find great quality home made type ceviche sold at the Encinitas farmers market, by La Isla Ceviche. The couple who manage the small business has the facilities in Escondido and serve various farmers markets. Definitively I will look for them in the next ones, as I absolutely loved the flavor and texture of both the shrimp and fish ceviches(that come with a bag of delicious also locally made chips). For $ 8 you can get a fantastic light meal… you only need to add the cold beer and the summer attitude!(I like that they accept credit card, not always easy in farmers market shopping). You can find La Isla Ceviche these days in these locations: Mon @Lawrence Welk 3 – 7; Wed@Encinitas 4:30−8& Santee 3 – 7; Sat @Vista 8 – 1& Del Mar 1 – 4; Sun @Hillcrest 9 – 2, Leucadia 10 – 2& Rancho Santa Fe 9:30−1
