Good breakfast, made to order. Sat at counter, good service, waitress engaged in conversation. Hummed while serving, any time staff hums they must be happy. Home-style cooking and atmosphere.

Got the chicken fried steak and eggs, this is the only place I know of that will ask if you want that as beef or chicken. Both are very good, and very filling. The staff is very attentive and always friendly. You can tell there are some regular customers, eveytime I have been in here, the staff has greeted someone coming in by name.

One of the best family restaurants in Escondido. Always great food and excellent service. It’s always a treat to come. If you haven’t been here it’s a must go to spot for your family.

I was so excited to try this place, but it did not live up to my expectations in the slightest. Food was average at best. Definitely not worth $ 12 per person for breakfast. Second of all if you are going to call yourself a family owned company I expect friendly staff. My server was horrible. She never once asked how the food was. She quickly took our order brought it out, and 5 minutes later casually walks by to give us our receipt with no thank you or anything. She’s lucky I tipped her. If you are going to work Customer service at least be friendly. Definitely won’t be going there again and very dissatisfied with what I received.

After a fire destroyed Spires I thought no way could this place come back. It did and it came back strong. A mom and pop menue that always has a crowd. It’s a big place !! Great and friendly service with fair prices based on the portions. I’m a sucker for GOOD chicken fried steak and you can get it here. Be it breakfast style or dinner. Good and tasty !!!

One of my favorite restaurants in Escondido. The food is good and service is fantastic. Staff are like family there and many of them returned after this building burned down and was rebuilt. Same food and managemeng as previous restaurant(Spires).

Came here after seeing IHOP had a long line outside. Glad I did. This place was big, so seating was immediate. Service was exceptional, everyone was friendly and our order was taken quickly. The food came out promptly and was delicious. Our server always made sure my coffee mug was filled and my kids and wife had their drinks refilled. I will be returning again.

Nice and clean, good service, decent food. Nothing spectacular, it’s like a step up from Denny’s. I’ll go back for a simple breakfast.

Great service and a great price at this updated family restaurant. Typical menu offerings and highlighted soups and specials. In the hunt for a solid family restaurant that is not a huge chain brand? Try J&M.

It’s your typical Dennys or IHOP. The only different I notice is there customer service that keeps customer coming back.

On our first visit, the drive from Oceanside to Escondido was well worth it. Great ambiance for a family restaurant, one of the most friendly staffs we’ve ever encountered and, most of all, delicious food! My wife had the Fish & Chips dinner and I had the Chicken Parmesan… both dinners surpassed our expectations… delicious. Got to meet the boss and had great conversation about the Azores. Muito Obrigado, Joe! Looking forward to returning and trying the other great looking menu items.

This place is really good! Better than I expected. Such a cute family restaurant. I would definitely give it a 5, but my boyfriend said that he’s had a better French Steak Dip(I think that’s what it’s called). I got the French toast w/sunny side eggs & bacon and it was delicious! I was looking at my friend’s mother’s Unilocal and she gave a 5 star here, and I thought, why not? I would definitely come here again for their country fried steak! :-)

Love this place. Denny’s and IHOP doesn’t even come close. The workers are always friendly. I always come in for dinner, and there are a lot of regulars, and senior citizens. Their food is pretty good for the price you pay, and the menu has a nice variety of American fare. The only thing on the me menu that I’m not fond of is the pot roast, because it was on the dry side. Everything else is great. The mister always orders the fried steak and eggs. My new regular us the hamburger steak with grilled onions and gravy. Oh my god. So good. Crispy on the edges, and when you press down on it with your fork, you see the juices. They don’t skimp on the gravy and onions, either! It’s worth giving this place a try for a quick, casual dinner.

I was really impressed with this place! My friend and I went in here the day after Christmas and had a great breakfast. We were immediately seated and drink orders were almost instant. I went to wash my hands and by the time of my return there was a beverage in front of my seat! We are both fans of chicken fried steak so we inquired as to what KIND of CFS they serve. We were informed that it was not in fact a real breaded steak but more of what I call a «Toaster Pastry». No thanks! I’ll have the corned beef hash instead! That’s a tasty option that I will eat again when i come back. I did order my eggs poached and they were a little watery so next time I’m thinking over easy. Home fries are good. peppers and onions? Coke not Pepsi so that’s a plus! Friendly honest staff giving great service bringing you good food. A+ I’ll be back!

Went here for dinner and got the fried chicken meal and my GF had the pork chops dinner. The chicken was nice and crispy but juicy inside. The breast was a little over cooked. The veggies were not over cooked like a lot of places do. The pork chops were decent but a tad bit over cooked. The garlic bread was stone cold. The vegetable beef soup was tasty, but could have a little more meat and maybe less celery. Doesn’t vegetable beef soup have potatoes and barley? This had carrots, celery, cabbage and a few pieces of ground beef. The service was good and Katherine our waitress was nice and friendly.
