Hernandez Family Produce

I love this produce stand. While I love the strawberries in the summer, my favorite thing right now is the mini churro bites. They’re addictive! They also sell big jars of honey, several kinds of jerky (beef, buffalo, and ostrich!), and all season fruit you could want. Every trip to the Safari Park ends with a trip to this produce stand since we live too far away to make it a weekly trip. The locals are lucky!

Two weeks ago I went to the Safari and seen this place, I thought I’d stop by after. Wow, This place was amazing, fresh produce at great prices ! The lady who helped us was very nice ! I picked up some chile mangos, pistachios, and some honey. The honey by far was one of the best I’ve ever had !! Been using it almost everyday with my tea ! I highly recommend this place to everyone !!

This roadside produce stand carries the freshest seasonal produce that I have found. Hernandez Family produce exemplifies the local food movement by selling some produce grown that is right on the property.
I have shopped here for years and am never disappointed, it is great to enjoy the seasonal bounty that California has to offer with staples like tomatoes, oranges, apples and zucchini. They also carry more specialized items like pomegranates, guavas, red jalapenos, local honey and even ostrich eggs. When produce is harvested locally it stays on the plant longer ensuring that whatever they sell is fresh and delicious. You can not go wrong if you grab some of the avocados from the back country, their thick flesh is smooth and creamy.
On a recent visit it was ridiculously hot in Escondido, we were right in the middle of a heat wave. They had a freezer full of frozen treats like drumsticks and ice cream, but the icy cold cooler had really interesting and hard to find savory popsicles too. Flavors made with fresh ingredients like avocado, pistachio, cinnamon and spicy chile cucumber and were a perfect not too sweet treat for my drive home.
The staff here are so friendly and happy to give samples, that is one of the best reasons to shop at a family owned business. It is conveniently located by the San Diego Safari park and a requisite stop for me when I am in the area.
