I had an issue about some work one of the mechanics did on my car. Due to the lack of communication from the mechanic, i was unhappy with the repairs. I received a call from the owner of Hawthorne Tires, John, who was all too willing to help the situation. He was very attentive as to what i was saying and voiced his concerns as well. Its very rare when the owner of a company steps in to resolve issues that really had nothing to do with his company seeing as it was done as a side job. I am very pleased with the outcome of this situation and i thank you John for taking the time to listen to my concerns.

John and his crew at Hawthorn do and awesome job for me with all of my mechanical needs for both my personal and Business vehicles. I’ve had them replace a motor in one of my trucks. Most recently I purchased a vehicle that had several problems that needed to be corrected so I can get it smog and registered and they help me work through each one of those problems one by one.

I am fairly new to the area and look to Unilocal often for review data. My vehicle needed an oil change but I had a few other things going on too. I tried to find a family owned one stop shop. Hawthorn appeared to be a good fit. I called they fit me I to their busy schedule. Had my oil changed and my vehicle began to leak oil. I brought it back in thinking they just needed to tighten it up. Well let’s just say several months went on and I brought it back several times. Eventually they replaced the seal and it fixed it for a while but after a month or so it began to leak again. During the oil Che k ups I also asked them to check out my tires and rims because I was concerned about a noise I kept hearing. They looked and said yeah I think you should get some new rims. Which I did, noise continued. It ended up that my breaks and break pad needs replacement too. Less than 6 months later I had to have them replaced again, due to either a very bad replacement job or cheap parts. Needless to say I would not recommend this place nor will I ever bring a vehicle here again.

Took my 95 ford ranger in for an alignment John and Chris took the time to explain everything to me great service will be coming here for all future needs.

John and his team are doing it right. I can’t say anything more about them, than has already been said. 5 Stars says it all. Forget the warehouse tire places. Spend your money with a local small business, get a better product and better service.

I took my car to Hawthorne Tire & Auto for what I thought was an alignment issue. I selected them because they had great Unilocal reviews and were located not too far from me.
When I called to make an appointment, I was greeted by Donna. She was very friendly and helpful, listing different times available within the next couple of days. I was able to get an appointment at a time that was convenient for me. The price for an alignment was very reasonable. When I described the reason I was bringing in my car, Donna suggested that it may not be an alignment issue and that they would check to see if it was something else before doing an alignment I may not need.
When I arrived for my appointment, Donna checked me in. That’s when I met John. I explained the problem I was having and he told me the same thing Donna had said. I was grateful that they were willing to check my car before doing work that wasn’t necessary. As it turns out, it was not an alignment problem but an issue with one of my tires. Before doing any work, John called and gave me options in a range of prices; I knew he really wanted to help me and wasn’t just trying to make the most money he could like some other tire shops might do. I made my choice and the car was fixed in about an hour.
I am so happy I found Hawthorne Tire & Auto. I had an excellent experience from start to finish. It’s a small, family owned place and because of that you get personal service from people who genuinely want to help. John is good at what he does and is as honest as they come.
From now on Hawthorne Tire & Auto will be my go-​to place for any car issues. I highly recommend them and will be telling all my Escondido friends about this place.

Donna was extremely friendly over the phone and understanding that I was unable to make my first appointment. She didn’t make me feel guilty one bit about needing to cancel. She helped me right away by finding a time that worked better with my schedule. She is awesome!
John Hawthorne by far is the most honest and trustworthy person to hand your car over to. He went above and beyond with great service.

I had a flat tire today at 1pm and called Hawthorne Tire and they asked me what kind of car I had and luckily they could get my size tires so I brought my car in. I was in and out in less than an hour AND the service was AWESOME!!! I’m SO happy I now have a place to go to in Escondido if I ever have car trouble again!!! Thanks guys!!!

I’ve tried out a few other 4 – 5 star auto service shops throughout the San Diego area and none of them made a lasting impression like this one. Ironically, I found this place only searching for tires.
Our first visit was a few months ago tracking down the best deal for a single OEM tire replacement for our Evoque; as it turns out they are special order. Out of every tire spot I contacted, John beat them all to the punch by several hours. Just based on his expedient response, we gave Hawthorne a try. If I remember correctly, he was able to get our tire replaced that same weekend.
Fast forward to a few months later, my GTI is in need of 2 tires. I had previously inquired about 2 tires for the GTI and saved the email chain so I responded to that — without missing a beat, John responded with a few they had on hand. I did a bit of research and asked about a particular brand of tire and we had continued the email conversation a few times narrowing down a specific tire. He provided me with alternatives as well as his personal preference and why… which is just what I like to hear. I prefer that service providers offer their expertise; as it helps me further my own research and gain that extra bit of knowledge. In any case, we went with his tire recommendation and couldn’t be happier.
Additionally, these guys aren’t just tires… they do service. So I figured, let’s see how these guys handle the 50k service on my GTI. They completed the service and diagnosed the check engine light — Intake Manifold Error. John called me up to tell me and advised me to make an appointment with the dealership because his research/​knowledge indicated that it might be covered under an extended warranty service — in other words, save me ~$ 700
I just took the GTI in for the code and John was right — fixed under an extended warranty. In any case, I am a loyal customer from this day forth because of Johns expedience, personal touch, integrity, and superb customer service.

AMAZING customer service! Called them to see if they could take care of my tire emergency quickly as I was crunched for time– not only did they fit me in as soon as I got there but they didn’t charge me to take the bolt out & patch my tire back up. Quick friendly service, I was seriously so impressed. Will definitely recommend to my friends & family. The waiting room is really cute too– old school diner/​truck stop style.

Great experience! Finally an Honest and helpful mechanic! I went in because my brakes were grinding. I’ve had really bad experiences in the past with other mechanic shops that over charge and under deliver. A friend recommend me to Hawthorne auto. I’m so thankful for the recommendation. Seldom do you encounter a tire and auto store as great as Hawthorne Tire and Auto. John is a hands on, extremely knowledgeable, and honest owner who will take care of your car with reasonable rates and integrity. The mechanics there carry the same integrity in their work, and it shows with the finished product.
I started with an oil change, then recently bought tires, and had a trunk lid problem fixed. All were done in a very reasonable time frame, the price was right, and the work the employees did was perfect.
If you are tired of dealership service departments, looking for reasonable prices, and want the work done correctly, give John a call and make an appointment. I’m one very satisfied customer who will return again when it’s time for my car’s next service.

Hawthorne tire has always been my go to auto service center with good prices. John and his crew always provide great, honest, quality work and customer service with a smile. I Highly recommend them for any type of automotive repair or service.

Needed to get a quick inspection on Saturday, on a used car and couldn’t find anyone to do it. I called Hawthorne and spoke to Donna, and not only did she get me in right away, they had me there at the car and talked to me while they were inspecting it and showed me all the possible concerns and issues with it. Needless to say I didn’t buy the car, but Hawthorn now has a new loyal customer.

Well not so pleased this time. Took 72 elcaminio in for front end alignment. And to lube the front control arms that were just replaced and put cotter pins in top that I left out so they could adjust. Well top control arms had ZERO GREASE in them and no cotter pins. I trusted them and drove car to car show. Might have ruined new tubular control arm bushings. Steering wheel should be straight it not. Disappointed is not the word.

I am a returning customer and every single time I have gone they have great, quick, and friendly service. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs any general auto repair, service or tune-​up. It is a family owned shop and they definitely have that friendly and can-​do attitude. They have a nice little lobby as well with coffee, a sitting area, and a pretty cool aquarium. They are very honest and fair and will always consult with the car owner before they proceed.
Overall, great service every time and I will continue to go here!!!

Went there this morning after reading the great reviews here on Unilocal.Both, Unilocal and their answering machine, said they were open on Saturdays from 9 — 2. Got there just before 9 and waited for about thirty minutes hoping they would show.
Well, they didn’t. Big time FAIL, Hawthorne Auto.
At least update your hours on Unilocal and the answering machine so people don’t waste their time and gas.

This guys are honest and reliable. Have been using them for my business for a few years now and wouldn’t go to any other shop.

I’ve gone here for years and always very impressed with all the work performed. I recently brought in my track car so some major suspension work, and I can’t thank everyone there enough! Brandon did some amazing work with getting my new bushings along with some steering issues that were Anaya difficult but are now corrected.
They’re are no words to explain how dedicated these guys are to getting the repairs done and taking care of your car at the same time! I’ll always recommend John and the rest of the great guys at Hawthorne Tire & Service!
