It was supposed to move to the Wagon Wheel. I would love to know where they moved or what is going on as well. Miss this place!

Have been eating here since I was a kid in high school. Best real Mexican food in the world. They still use lard last I knew in there refried beans. Couldn’t believe when I pulled up and they were closed. No sign no message in window or anything. When I call the phone it just rings and rings… I heard they are taking over the Wagon Wheel restaurant on center city and mission. Anyone know??? I need my ELMEX

Just went by there this afternoon for lunch and discovered it was closed down. All the businesses in the joining building are gone and its gated up. Did not see a «we’ve moved!» placard anywhere. I hope they come back!!! One of the best taquerias in the area! I will MISS you!

THEBEST Mexican food around. Period. We lived in Escondido for 35 years and this is still the one place we come every time we visit Escondido!

THEBEST! Seriously the best meat, salsa & service. I’m very picky on carne asada from taco shops. And this place blows the others out of the water. I can’t do any of the«bertos» tacos shops because the meat there is NASTY! I introduced this place to my brother who is picky on mexican and he is now addicted. Everyone needs to give this place a try.

This place has the best guaq in town. Hands DOWN Get a carne asada burrito. You will not regret it. Wish they had flautas(spelling) but you cant get everything you want. They also sell their Guaq on the side. Its really too good.

I have been coming here with my family since I was a little kid, and even though my dad moved to Florida, whenever he comes to visit this is his first stop when he gets off the plane. Our favorite thing to get is the carne asada burritos(huge, sometimes I split one with a friend), but their rolled tacos are also quite good. To be honest, these things are so good I haven’t deviated from that choice in 15 years, but I hear everything else is just as amazing. The family is as sweet as can be. Please support this local business, you won’t be disappointed!

Awful! We ordered chicken fajitas and a tamale and enchilada combo. The cheese in the enchilada was orange and processed. We took a bite of our chicken dishes and they tastes like the chicken had gone bad; we didn’t eat them. The guacamole and the beans were watery with no flavor. We threw most of it out

Taco Shop is what every taco place wants to be. The food is very cheap. Bean and cheese burrito for under $ 3? I accept. Definitely among the best Mexican food I’ve had, and at fast food prices. This is my go-to lunch stop on days when I’m running errands around Escondido. A+.

This place is horrible. If you want real Mexican food go elsewhere. The crane Asada seems like it came in a bag and microwaved. So yeah …

Just have to say I started eating at the Taco Shop when I was a small kid and my parents just loved the place! Now I am taking my kids to my favorite Taco Shop in So Cal. The best Carnitas and Adobada! Fish Burrito is a hit too! The service is great and it is a local family business. Lots of room and clean. Just wish they had a drive thru!

The Escondido Original! Best carne asada and carnitas burritos in North County. Especially the carnitas — always crispy and never fatty, while the pico de gallo perfectly compliments the succulent pork and excellent tortillas. I’ve had Mexican«taco shop style» food all over USA, and nobody ever beats El Mexicano. Good prices, fresh ingredients — never mind the typical taco shop ambiance — it’s the delicious food that matters most here. EDIT — Now closed due to Lowe’s encroachment.

Well, I went with a friend and he ordered some traditional mexican fare. He did 4 types of tacos,(lengua, cabeza, tripe, and adobada) I ordered«super nachos.» The meat in the tacos was fresh and tasted like they were recently cooked. The corn tortillas were old and stale. Nachos were just kind of meehhh. They had carne asada on top and there wasn’t much flavor. They don’t have hot salsa, just a red and green sauce. So I bought a bag of carrots, and grabbed a few roasted jalapeño’s from the bin. But those didn’t have any flavor either. The jalapeño’s weren’t even spicy like typical roasted one’s are. I was kind of disappointed that I couldn’t find some«heat» in a taco shop. The horchata was good, but all in all this place was just decent. The food seemed to be cooked to order, but it needed some flavor.

My «litmus test» for any taco shop is their Adobada. Most places are mediocre at it. I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur when it comes to this delectable savory marinated meat treat. I happened to be passing by this place around lunchtime, so stopped in for a burrito. I was initially delighted by the affordable $ 4 price on their burrito, and ordered up the test subject. I was pleased when my order was up and I was handed over a decent sized burrito that was piping hot. On first bite I could tell this was a superior product. The meat was a deep red color and charred around the edges, just how I like it. The spices were heavy and super flavorful, with not too much«filler»: just a light sprinkling of onion and cilantro. Good to the last bite. I think I have finally found my new go-to Adobada place.

The boo went out to Lowe’s and would then pick up lunch for us from a taco shop(yeah man… living in Suburbia is a thrill a minute!). I asked him to order me a veggie burrito, a standard on most taco shop menus. Not here. When the boo asked the guy at the counter if they have veggie burritos, the guy said«yes…with whatever veggies you want.» Dumbfounded, the two of them concocted a bean burrito with potatoes, tons of onions, and bell peppers. Random. Real random. Still, the ingredients were tasty and not the most terrible thing I could do to my waistline(like the guac, sour cream, and cheese on a traditional veggie burrito would do). The lack of communication is why I gave them mediocre stars(if you do not sell a veggie burrito, just say so. I can order something else). But the food is decent enough for me to try it again.

El Mexicano Taco Shop. «the Mexican taco shop»… really? How… original? HAHA! It’s a nice change from all the *insert name here*-bertos out there. How’s Alyssaberto sound for an up-and-coming taco shop? ;) Anyway, El Mexicano(hahaha!) offers cheap prices for large portions that lack in flavor, at least for the items I’ve tried. The fish in their fish tacos are enormous and they’re less than $ 2 a pop. They’re good, but could definitely be better. Their hot sauce needs some serious work too. Take that recipe back to the test kitchen and let me know when you’ve developed something remotely spicy, and not just pureed tomato with lime juice.
