History

Established in 2009.

Before opening the NBK9 facility, Karen, the owner, did five years of research based on a non-​traditional approach to animal care. Most of my research was based upon methods used by facilities in the Northwest and predominately on the west coast. Her goal was to create an environment where dogs from many different personality types can flourish.

–Full member, Association of Pet Dog Trainers, with 17 years’ experience as professional trainer

–Workshops with leaders in the field of canine training and behavior (Dr. Ian Dunbar, Jean Donaldson, Karen Pryor, Dr. Jesus Rosales-​Ruiz, Sue Sternberg)

–Continuing education: Clicker Expo; APDT Conference

–Completed a seminar in Constructional Aggression Treatment (CAT) developed by Kellie Snider and Dr. Jesus Rosales-​Ruiz

–Accepted to and completed an internship in sled dog behavior developed by Sue Sternberg, Fall 2013

–B.S. in Biology with studies in psychology, Brescia University

–Previous career in clinical research involving neuroscience

–Coursework at University of Kentucky in Animal Breeding, Animal Husbandry, and Animal Nutrition
