Geek Street

I found these guys by reading another review on Unilocal,which compared them to the honest mechanic that’s the only person you will take your car to for service. We have two laptop computers that had been «out of service» for months. One is my 17-​year old daughter’s that had been bombarded with viruses, and we had taken to another place, but had only gotten marginal results. The second laptop belongs to my 13-​year old daughter and it had gotten stepped on as it lay beneath a pile of teenagers’ clothes. The screen was broken and we could not get it to even power up. So, I called Geek Street and gave them brief descriptions of the two computers over the phone. They told me that I could bring them in and it normally takes 3 – 5 days to diagnose and repair. Anyway, to cut to the chase, they fixed the one with the broken screen the same day (they had a used screen in stock), and the other one, which was also missing a power source, they ordered the power cord, cleaned all the viruses and had it finish just a few days later! Both computers are home now, and my wife and I can have our computers to ourselves! I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend. The price for repair was more than fair, and they «under-​promised and OVER-​DELIVERED” – my favorite kind of people in the service biz.

I HIGHLY recommend Geek Street Computers! The guys at Geek Street Computers are great to work with. They accurately assessed my computer’s problems and fixed it quickly. My HDD had completely crashed; they put in a brand new 1TB HDD, installed Windows 8 and MS Office, and had me back up and running in 2 days. Also, they are still working on my old HDD attempting to recover my personal files, days after I got my computer back. They’re pricing was fare and they only charged me for the components/​services that I absolutely needed… NO UP-​SELLING!

This place is my go to for any computer glitches or major problems. They are polite, kind and get this — HONEST. They have never overcharged me for silly things that can be easily fixed, and have even done a few things free, because they know they have my business. Place is a hot mess but they certainly know what they are doing and that is what really matters. Geek Street rocks the geek world. LOVE these guys!

These guys will not try to charge you for what they can’t fix, and they charge significantly less than places like Geek Squad.
Not the most upscale shop I’ve ever seen, but the family working here makes up for it by far.

After doing what I thought was a botched repair job myself, I took my laptop in to have it looked at to see where I went wrong. At first my worst fears were confirmed. I had fried the mother board. Jean located the part and did a complete tear down of the laptop. Props to him on that task. Dell made this thing so just bout anything you do requires a massive tear down to get to it. It was discover though after the tear down that issue laid not with the board but with a connector cable which ran to the power button. It had become damaged when I disconnected it due a tiny piece of tape logged in the connector on the mother board. I ended up getting a new face plate since dell made the cable part of a modular design. Jean was friendly and answered any questions I had. He even helped me complete the task I was doing which started this whole mess and in the end I walked out with a total cost about $ 100 bucks for diagnosis, installation, ordering and shipping of the needed part. My thanks to everyone at geek street. If someone needs something fixed i’ll be sure to send them your way. Btw they also do custom builds!!!

Well, to start off, I have known the owner for well over 35 years, and he is a man of integrity, and a man of his word. He (and every member of the highly competent team) know their business, and provide FIRST CLASS, PROFESSIONAL service! If you have a HD failure, there is nobody better, they have saved more skins than a taxidermist! Not only do you get the best repair and service, all in one place, you also instantly become a member of the Geek Street FAMILY, and be assured, they take care of their family!!!

Computer Repair. I have been a long-​time customer of Geek Street, I think about 10 years and I highly recommend Geek Street to anyone. I have never had a bad experience with them! Outstanding customer service and knowledge. They don’t nickel and dime you. If they can save you some money, including by not doing business with them, they’ll make the honest recommendation. Many times they’ve been able to handle the problem on the spot. I moved clear across town from them and just last month I drove all the way to Englewood just because I trust them to be able to handle the problem and not baffle me with the *&^%$! That kind of trust is hard to come by. They go the extra mile as well, including by Gene the owner, giving me tips and tricks to maximize computer performance. Prices are very reasonable. Geek Street will always be my first choice for computer repair.

Customer service was great, with a very friendly staff. Gene Brown is the owner and manager.
Hours are 10 AM-​7 PM
Fri. and 10 AM to 6 Pm on Sat.
The repair was done swiftly and personally by Gene as I was standing there. He’s a low key guy with lots of knowledge about the weird problems my computer was having. Now I won’t have to drop kick the laptop out the window!
Price was very fair. I’d name my first born child after him, but it’s a bit late for that. Thanks so much!

Computer was giving me significant problems you know the ones that the Dell tech support kill hour after hour of your time. Called Geek Street they said they would look at it and let me know. They had it for a single day and charged me a nominal fee for the work that was performed and allowed me to continue my work. I will continue to take my computer here any time that it has a problem.

These guys have given good cell phone advice, popped a key back on my laptop free of charge (Geek Squad would have charged $ 30), and gave me a (granted, trashed) keyboard when I needed an «L» key. I’ve gotten them donuts for all their generosity, and it still doesn’t seem like enough. I have no idea why some person thought they were condescending; they’ve been nothing but courteous and helpful when I’ve come in, and I’m no techie. Seriously, go. You’ll never want to go anywhere else afterwards.

I am writing this review from my new PC which the guys at Geek Street set up for me. They are the nicest, most polite and most knowledgeable IT folks I’ve run across in a long time. I couldn’t be happier to have done business with them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! O.K. it’s the 18^th of March and I just bought a used PC for my kid to do her homework on. These guys took excellent care of me and I am so happy to have found them. They are the BEST!

I really am happy with this business! A few weeks ago my POS system keyboard went out and they helped me configure a way to bypass the old keyboard so my scanner would still work! Thanks Bryan! They are very friendly and they know what the heck they are doing! Yay!

These guys are great. They helped me out SO much when I broke my laptop during finals week. They were very kind and funny, and I would recommend them to anyone. The price was very good too. I really can’t complain.

Great shop.
I’ve owned and managed several pc repair businesses in the past and am an IT professional, so I know great techs and a top shop when I see them. I’ve had to pick up random peripherals from time to time and always use Geek Street over the big chains.
Their prices are comparable to online deals and their service rates are very reasonable. Gene, the owner, is super friendly, down to earth, and extremely knowledgeable.
I highly recommend Geek Street Computers.

Geek street has never done me wrong. If anything, they have hooked me up repeatedly. I have done business with Action for years and I am much happier with Geek Street. The guys are genuine geeks and they aren’t afraid to wear that fact on their sleeves.

Condescending attitude and incompetent tech guys… I’ll take my business else where!
However they are knowledgeable and know a lot about computers, they make you feel like an idiot because you’re not as tech savvy as they are. I had a machine built there and I had to bring it back 4 more times before they hooked everything up the right way. From the USB ports not being hooked up to the audio ports backwards. Not worth the aggravation.

With the emergence of scandals coming from the larger tech-​support chains, I sought out an independent refuge for my computer woes. The first independent computer repair shop I went to frightened me so badly I will have to review them under an alias. Seriously, I came in and he was mad that «minorities rob the world» and that he «wanted to tie a shotgun to the front door to get ‘em». He said all this before I even set down my busted laptop.
Thank goodness for Geek Street Computers. A tiny independent shop that has good karma and good smells radiating from it. Besides repairing computers, they also sell used PCs and laptops, as well as computer components. The shop is fair in its repair prices and retail goods but you definitely get more than you pay for. The staff is some of the brightest and kindest I have met in my adventures in Geekdom, neither being dopey nor elitist. My only complaint stems from a miscommunication I had with the owner over a repair. While the details are not important, he still tried to make it up to me both in advice and in supplies.
So whether you have a destroyed Dell or a mangled Mac, bring it on in. Oh, and avoid the 2600 block of south Broadway if you are a minority with a broken computer.
