Bouffant Salon

Finally, Bouffant is on Unilocal so I can say this:
For two years, I went to Pete for cut and color and was always thrilled with the results. Since I decided to stop going to my last colorist in the city, he was the only colorist i had found in NJ who could do that perfect mix of red and brown for my hair. Against the warnings of another friend who had not had a good experience, I decided to get highlights in anticipation of a girl’s weekend. I should have listened to said friend.
I was a little unsure when I saw the results, because I couldn’t believe he got it so wrong. My friend used the word «skunked» to describe her highlights and that’s what happened to me. I had peroxide blonde highlights in some areas of my hair and some which started an inch off the scalp, showing serious roots. But having worked in the beauty industry before, I knew this could be corrected so that wasn’t the problem. Pete’s response was.
After going home and seeing the reaction of my husband and my mother, who thought it looked terrible, I knew I had to do something quick. I called the salon during operating hours and got their voicemail, so I left a message explaining the situation. I heard nothing. The following day, a Sunday which is a day they are open, I called again, left another message in the morning. Nothing. I was starting to panic as I was leaving for my trip the following Thursday so three hours later, I drove to the salon and found Pete working on a client. The ensuing conversation was awful. He said he heard my message but hadn’t had a chance to call me back, then when we discussed my hair, in which I expressed my dissatisfaction, but instead of offering to correct the color, he insisted he thought it looked good. At this point, whatever trust I’d had in him was gone. He had a pretty poor and defensive attitude by the end of the conversation, no offer to fix the mess and I left feeling pretty upset by his response and the state of my hair.
The end result was my having to go to CVS to buy a color rinse that effectively covered the stripes until I could get an appointment at a different salon after my trip and seriously bad feelings every time I drive by their salon now.

Great Salon!!! Owners and staff are the best… Have been following pete for over 10 years… I buy all my brushes products and blowdryers from there. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!
And the greeter at the door just makes your day!!!

How lucky one is when they put themselves in the hands of Pete and Lenore at Bouffant. I have been coming here for years and the consistency and constancy of the work continues. I am always stopped, no matter where I go, about my hair color and how healthy it looks. Most recently I had a keratin treatment and WOW! So, if you really care about your hair and want it to have the healthiest of treatment and look superb GO to Boufffant. You’ll love the work they do!!!

I can’t believe I’m the first to write a review on this amazing salon. Pete, the owner of Bouffant, has been cutting my hair for about seven years now. He and his wife, Lenore, who also works at the salon, are two of the most down to earth people you will ever meet.
I’m very picky about who styles my hair and I think it’s important to trust your hair stylist. I can proudly say that I’ve never left this salon without a smile on my face. It amazes me that he can cut and style my hair exactly the way I want it to look. I also really like that they use Bumble and bumble products because I love the way my hair smells and feels after I use the products. He’s also done some highlights for me in the past and did a great job.
I grew up in NJ but live in the city now and I come back to NJ just for a hair cut with Pete. I’ve actually tried a few salons in the city when I just needed my bangs or my ends trimmed and I left those salons very disappointed. Those bad experiences made me appreciate him more and I don’t bother to go to those other salons anymore, even if it’s just for trimming my bangs.
I don’t give five stars on Unilocal easily but I really think this salon deserves 5 stars and more. I highly recommend this salon to anyone, especially for those who just can’t seem to find a good hair stylist. If you go to Bouffant, ask for Pete!
