A&A Tradin’ Post – Ace Hardware

Rude rude rude… Did I mention rude? Went today to make a return not knowing you couldn’t return from another ACE because they are franchised. Ok understand but when I asked a question not only was the cashier rude but a man who worked there walked up and just cemented the fact that they have the worst customer service around. Go to Home Depot or the Ace off University and Orchard if you don’t want to ruin your day.

I’ve been here several times since it’s local. I’ve tried over and over again to give this place a shot because I love the idea. I’ve never had a good experience. I’m a new home owner and find navigating through this house like place turned store extremely difficult. Also — the cost just seems so high! Like not small business justifiable high. $ 40 to make window screens? And the dude who told me that smelled like yesterday’s booze!
Kudos to the people who found ways to give more than 1 star!
If you’re savvy with tools and finding parts/​pieces without help then this could work for you. I think the staff is very hit and miss with experience and attitude looking at other reviews.

This place is great for when you need a quick item and don’t feel like driving down to the Home Depot off of Belleview.
They’re actually really good at stocking a huge variety of bolts, washers, fasteners, and just about anything like that.
Driving south, this place is always difficult to catch off of Broadway. Their sign isn’t too huge, so just keep an eye out for it.
3 Stars for overall friendlies, availability, and location of this place.
I’m knocking off 2 stars for the following reasons:
1.) It’s crowded. They really squeezed as many shelves/​products into this space as possible.
2.) Looks old/​dusty. Although clean, there are sections of the store with dust accumulation on the products.
3.) Seems expensive. Compared to similar items at your big box stores, expect to pay slightly more. (Obviously)
Anyway, check this place out if you need that one item to fix or finish a project and live in the neighborhood.

I cant speak to the one star reviews posted here. I have always had great customer service experience here especially when it comes to matching up hardware. The staff has always been courteous and helpful. Support your locally owned and operated business. You may pay a little more here, but, the service more than makes up for it.

Man I use to love this place. Nice hardware store with a little bit of everything you need. Usually the service is fantastic. Did a legitimate return today and Penny up front ruined my day and my perception of this store. Beyond rude and best yet ended up being wrong about the situation and having to process the return. I was close to just leaving the item and my $ 9 and leaving to make my point. Yes over $ 9. Countless visits and purchases in the past, never will go back.

Absolute WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! YES, WORSE THAN HOME DEPOT AND LOWES. Girl at cash register was completely HORRIBLE and TOTALLY racist! Sonja is her name. I do not understand how she can hold this job the way she acted. I will never go back to Ace again. I try to support the smaller guys to help doy part in keeping them around. No more.

A&A is an Ace Hardware — but its admittedly quirky selection gives it a small-​town hardware store vibe, it doesn’t feel like any old chain store. Meanwhile, if something at your home breaks, these folks will almost certainly have the part you need to fix it (if not, they’ll order it for you).
A&A can get busy at times (such is the price of well-​earned popularity), but the staff have always been helpful and patient when I’ve swung in.

To say I’m a handyman would be a generous statement, but as I’m feeling magnanimous: I’m a handyman.
I’ve built a few things with and without instructions. Some of them even with moving parts. I measure twice, cut once, and then realize I measured incorrectly, but it’s okay because handymen fix things. Even their own mistakes.
Whenever a repair needs to be done, I hop in my car drive over to the ol‘ Tradin’ Post.
The reason is twofold.
One — they have damn near everything. It’s a small store, but they cram it to the gills with all the little metal, rubber and wood guts you’ll need to finish the job. The best example I can think of is when I needed a reverse thread screw of a very specific size to fix a rotating fan. Against my better judgment I tried Home Depot first. No Dice. Lowe’s? Not likely. The Ooooool’ Tradin’ Post?
Let’s just say that if my knowing smile hasn’t already revealed the answer, the gentle wind of the fixed rotating fan that blows across my face will.
Two — the staff is as knowledgeable as they are helpful. While the fan was a problem with a singular solution, I more often than not find myself at the Post with an issue I for which the solution is purely improvisatory. The best example I have is the old muffler of my ’90 Benz 300TE stationwagon. The problem? It, uh… fell off. And I mean clean off. The pipe had rusted out along it’s 280,000+ mile journey, leaving the muffler dangling worthlessly from the back by two hooks built into the chassis. I knew the old girl didn’t have much left in her and balked at the price quote for a welding repair. After all, why pay for a professional repair when I could cobble my own solution together from parts at the Post? I explained my plight and my proposed solution, and the A&A guys were completely on board. They helped me find the $ 15 or so of parts I needed to make my car whole. The fix lasted longer than the car, bless her rusty metal soul, and all thanks to the folks at A&A.
So why not a five star review? For all the awesomeness of the OOooOOOOool’ Tradin’ Post, they are understaffed. Every employee is pure gold, both in terms of quality and rarity. They will give you single-​minded attention until all your needs are met, but this policy applies to the person (or persons) who showed up before you, too. If you are in a hurry, godspeed and good luck.

I just moved into this neighborhood and was happy to find a small hardware store to patronize, instead of giant chain retailers. I’ve probably spent close to $ 1000 here on paint and related equipment, kitchen faucet, garbage disposal, garbage cans, tools, screws, screens, yard mulch, everything one needs when moving into a new townhouse.
NO more.
Got coupons in the mail for 50% off anything under $ 30 that wasn’t already on sale for TWO hours on Saturday, plus about 12 lines of disclaimers. Read it all, Thought, «How nice of them.» Picked out an item from the shelves that clearly was NOT marked on sale, went to the register: it was on sale. Surprise! Coupon wouldn’t work. Went back to find another item I needed and guess what: it also showed up as «on sale» at the register.
I recognize a cheap come-​on when I see one. A&A just pushed me through the doors of any ol’ hardware store I happen to be near. That’s a shame, since the people who work the floor and registers seem genuinely nice. Whomever set up this promotion and then jacked around with the pricing at the register just lost an enthusiastic customer.
By the way: there’s an old saying in business «A satisfied customer tells their friends, a dissatisfied customer tells everyone.» It’s true1

I lived in Englewood 13 years ago and found this little gem.
Now that I’ve moved back to the neighborhood I’m glad to see they are still around.
The staff here are extremely helpful. I’ve walked in on more than one occasion with a piece of something in my hand to have them help me find a replacement. They know their store, and what their limits are. They’ve helped me put in a new toilet, install ceiling fans, fix multiple plumbing issues, install new dryer vent, and on and on.
They fill propane tanks, versus swapping them out, and give you a great deal on your fourth. They truly care about their customers and thank you each time for coming in.
Stop in the next time you need something, before going to a big chain. These people are the best!

Move over Home Depot, now for something more reliable.
It’s not a big box store, it’s sometimes crazy at the register, but darn it all — at least this place always has what I need! Let me tell you about my three-strikes-and-Home-Depot’s-OUTTATHERE experience with this venue.
We needed most of the window screens of our rental property replaced, so I called Home Depot first — was told they don’t do that, but an ACE Hardware likely would. So, as A&A is owned by ACE and is close to the property, I called there and wound up having them do a great job on replacing/​repairing our screens. Strike ONE, HD.
Needed to get duplicate keys made for our new tenants, so the husband took them to HD. Came back, and not one single duplicate (of the eight he had made) worked. Took them back, gave them the chance to rekey — after pulling a supervisor in to «assist,» and driving back to try them yet again — still not one of them worked. Fine. Took them to A&A — 15 minutes later, every single dup key worked like a charm. Strike TWO, HD.
Whilst at HD for the prior occasion, I checked their lighting aisle for a replacement bulb to match our ceiling fan bulbs. Couldn’t find it, and couldn’t believe it. Then, while at A&A to solve the key debaucle, found the very bulb we needed with no trouble. Strike THREE, you’re OUT, HD!
Lesson learned. A&A will be the first place I try when doing our home improvements.

What suburb is complete without its neighborhood hardware store. I’m not talking about a Home Depot or a Builder’s Square, but rather the little independent place that knows not only your name, but what projects you are working on. Littleton lost their 100 year old hardware store to suburban sprawl, but Englewood still has their holdout at A&A. Sure, they might not have the biggest selection, but I rarely go home empty handed or disappointed. The staff is smart and kind, knowing both their products and their customers. So next time you are on your way to one of the «big box» hardware stores, stop by and be surprised at how much of your shopping list you can knock out at this little hole-​in-​the-​wall.
