The Great Voice Company

The company has wonderful customer service and is focused on meeting the needs of people who are looking to become successful as a voice talent in many different niches. I talked to Bill, who helped me with a voice assessment which gave me insight on the areas of my voice that are my strengths and which areas I need to develop. The trainings are reasonable in cost compared to other schools I’ve looked at. I recently enrolled for an online training for about $ 300 and so far it’s been worth every penny.

I have followed the Great Voice company for two years prior to joining the Boot Camp at the legendary Avatar Studio in NYC in June. There were many reasons for me making this choice:

Susan Berkley & The Great Voice Company are wonderful at what they do: provide excellent coaching and education to those interested in voice acting. Understanding that 90% of the voice over business is — just that — business and the other 10% is the actual time behind the mic, the tools obtained through Susan’s bootcamps, conventions, and many free online tutorials prepare anyone willing to invest the time and hard work necessary to get the voice work.
The training is fast-​paced and fun, and Susan has a legitimate interest in each of her students — our success is her success.
I liken it to the old «give a man a fish/​teach a man to fish» saying… If you go into it thinking that you will «be a star» as soon as you finish your class, you are mistaken. That is not at all what is advertised.
If you go into it knowing that you will be given the knowledge and techniques upon which to build a successful voice artist career, you are correct.
It is up to YOU what you do with the education you are given.

Susan Berkley is a «Marketing Wizard». So if you want to learn how to market, with a side education in voice-​over, this is the place. But don’t expect much more. I spent the $ 1200 for her «Weekend Boot Camp». I then went to a local college Voice-​Over Workshop for $ 300. I learned much more during the college session, despite Susan’s warning against them.
The Great Voice Company is set-​up to give you just enough help to give you a taste, but not enough for you to go out on your own without having to sign up for more… and more… and more.
I remember at the end of the bootcamp, Susan gives a little party for all the students. You have a group photo taken of the class, and then she offers some wine and cheese. Nice huh? What it really is, is a marketing opportunity for Susan to feel out each student to see if they want to sign up for the next step (at another $ 1,000+). When she walked up to me to ask her recruitment questions, apparently my answers weren’t leaning toward signing up for the next phase. …she dropped me like a hot potato, and went on to the next one. I watched her do this for the rest of the party.
One of the fellas I befriended while at the bootcamp, signed up for the next phase. A few months later I asked him how it went, and has he found any work yet? He told me he hadn’t found work yet, «even though he did everything Susan told him to», and that if he wanted more help, he would have to sign up for (yet) another phase («Mentoring», I think) for over $ 2,000. (Which by the way was only available for a short time OMG!
Susan is a walking commercial. I don’t believe she is sincere in wanting to help the students. And the endless emails… more marketing, and information on her multiple trips to South America!
No thanks. I couldn’t recommend the Great Voice to any one looking to get into voice overs.
