A lot of the Whole Donuts are closed/closing, which is a shame, cuz these donuts are delicious! Seriously, so good, better than anything else around here. It’s a wicked hole in the wall, and I would’ve never thought to stop by until I started going to school in the area… but it’s definitely worth a visit. Coffee’s good, too — no espresso, or anything, but they’ve got different flavors. It’s cash-only, which is the only downside… but worth it for a lil’ donut treat.

I stopped in this morning for a cup of coffee, and initially I thought about turning around and leaving. It had an extremely«small town diner» feel to it, right down the the foggy windows and spinny counter-top stools. Seriously, the place came straight out of a Hopper painting. The waitress/counter server seemed a friendly sort though, so I decided to go on up to the counter and order a coffee and pastry. I am so glad I decided to stay! I got a large regular with cream and found it was an excellent cup of standard Jo’. Mellow in flavor, good balance of cream to coffee. Overall it was 1000% better than any cup of Dunkin coffee I have ever had(I know that’s not saying much, but nevertheless). They have an impressive display of freshly made pastries. There were so many that I wanted to try, and so seldom do I indulge in a real pastry, that I wasn’t sure what to order– so I took the advice of a good friend, and asked the waitress what she recommended. Without hesitation she gestured to the apple fritter. I took her advice. WOW was it a good fritter! Crunchy on the outside with a thin but full layer of icing on top– still warm and fluffy on the inside with chunks of cinnamon and apples throughout. Extremely fresh and delicious and so large I could only eat half for breakfast. It’s been 3 hours and I am still full from it– well worth the $ 1.89 I paid for it! They had eclairs, bowties, muffins, bagels, tartlets, and a large variety of donuts– mini and regular. They also had a full variety of beverages: coffee, tea, juices, etc. All prices were reasonable– but it is a cash only establishment so make sure you go in with a few bills(they do have an ATM on premises if you forget). I enjoyed my small-town experience this morning, and I will absolutely stop back in for a cup soon. Overall, a solid country diner experience!
