Let me preface by saying I’m from California and I’m cheap. In my neck of the woods our version of a less-than-5-dollar-tube-of-meat-wrapped-in-a-carbohydrate is known as a burrito, and apparently, is also a distant cousin of a «spiedi». Like many hole in the wall restaurants, despite my ability to purchase all the ingredients myself, I am unable to formulate them with the craft or delicious«grill history» that this place can. It just doesn’t taste the same. Charred, marinated, porky goodness stuffed into a soft white roll. If you want something tasty, quick and filling for about 5 bucks, Lupo’s is the place.

It’s spelled«spiedi,» and Lupo’s is the king, since Pancho’s Pit closed, years ago. Their subs are great too. The only place to sit is a couple of picnic tables outside, so better get your order to go. Also, cash only.

Speedies are a staple food in the Greater Binghamton area. The speedie sandwich here is yummy, but I think they use too much salt

My husband is from Endicott and talks endlessly about this place and their«Spiedies». Of course when he takes me there, he orders a cheeseburger, ha! One year of waiting to get back up there… Anyway I digress. Of course I DID order a spiedie because I can get a cheeseburger literally anywhere else. It was good. Very good! I just can’t give 5 stars simply because the whole ordering process was very odd. It was VERY crowded in there and there was confusion as to who had already ordered, whose food was whose, etc. Also being a Greek, I am used to marinated chicken, so really folks this may be just slightly over-hyped :)

I literally crave the chicken Speedie at least once a week, and I indulge. Mouth watering flavor. I insist that all my friends get one when they pass through. This place would do VERY well in NYC; consider it!

The customer service is far less than acceptable. If you don’t expect to be greeted, a smile and hello, or if nothing else, a positive attitude, then this is your place. Took my father there for some dogs with hot peppers and onions, and you would have thought we were asking for too much. Simply asked if they had chili sauce and they acted like there was something wrong with us. It was an embarrassment. Simply asked for some mustard and the server rudely said I should have asked to have it put on my hot dogs because they didn’t have a dispenser. This place gets an F for customer service and a big A for bad attitudes, save your money and go somewhere you will be appreciated as a customer. The best thing about it was the visit I had with my guest.

If you like«real» spiedies then this is your place! They serve the best in town. Service is quick and usually friendly(for mostly high school students working there). The biggest drawback is that they do not accept credit cards. I have pulled into the parking lot several times to realize I don’t have cash on me so I end up going somewhere else.

Just like most of the take out in this area I have to ask myself, why bother. This place is inconsistent… ARGH! With its history the food should be rock solid the same every time but it’s not. I will say I have had great spiedies at times along with great onion rings and fries. The problem is the quality is inconsistent. I did however try something of a change today. A sausage sandwich. The sausage was eh, at best but the peppers and onions were a joke. The onions weren’t even cooked. Nothing like long strands of raw onions on a sausage sandwich. Fries were dry along with the onion rings being overdone. I give up, really I do. There is no pride in Broome County with its food heritage or consistency. I’d really like to love Lupos as I did years past but the food just isn’t making it anymore.

A Binghamton classic– we always visit Lupo’s when we’re in town. Wish they’d open in Massachusetts!

If you’ve never had a chicken speedie, then this is the place you want to get one for the first time! Many people also love the pork but I is substantially prefer the chicken. This is a place that I visited every single time I am in town without a skip. I wish there was another place in the world that had their speedies. This restaurant is cash only and they do not have any dining area so bring your wallet without credit cards and remember you have to find someplace else to eat! Even if you were just driving by this place on the interstate it is well worth the slight detour to take out this food!

Spent the weekend in Endwell, NY. My boyfriend usually grills the speedies at home. This time, we didn’t have the time, so we dropped into Lupo’s to pick up a couple of sandwiches and an order of fries. When we got home a few minutes later, we served it up. The sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper and the fries in a small brown paper bag. All were greasy from oil… But that’s ok because the chicken and fries were cooked perfectly. The sandwich was about 6 inches long served in what kind of looked like a hotdog bun, but better. There were about 4 – 5 big chunks of chicken speedie in it. It was so good and smelled amazing. The fries were skinny and perfectly crispy too. Looking forward to my next visit for more speedies.

Just the absolute greatest. I have been getting Spiedies here since I was three. I always order the chicken sub with fries and a coke. I don’t know what people mean about attitude from the counter staff, they are always very businesslike and pleasant to me. I have heard the pork is good as well, but in 25 years whenever I get a Spiedie I am craving the chicken so much I never deviate from it. Eat the fries quick– they are delicious but have a short half life!

An absolute staple of upstate NY. No matter if it’s cooking at home, out at a B-Mets game or stopping by the char pit, Lupo’s Spiedies are an absolute food gem. After living in FL for the last 4 years, and now WA, I still order Lupo’s sauces so I can grill up my own spiedies. And you can guarantee, whenever I have the chance to visit back home I make sure I stop here at least once.

Lupo’s spiedies here or at the Spiedie and Rib Pit on Front Street, Binghamton are a food group for my family. At least once a week someone is eating a lupo’s sub. *Fried pierogies with tasty hot sauce are addicting. The dough on the pierogies tastes reminiscent of pizza fritte — its so delicious and worth a food coma. These are very hard to share: X. get the large order if there are more than 1 of you sharing. The chicken and pork spiedie subs are always good. I like to eat these hot or cold, the next day. The service is great; no matter how many people are waiting, the food is always handled quickly and customers waiting out front are managed really well. **must try the outstanding desserts in the front if you go — ignore your diet and try the giant rice krispy treat with peanut butter topping. It’s out of control delicious.**

So this area is famous for their Spiede sammich and I would not be a good traveler if I did not get one from what locals consider one of the best. So we went and got the pork spiede along with fries. This is a walk up stand so there is no eating space but lots of people were eating in their cars(kinda messy if you ask me). So we went back to our lunch room and the spiede and fries held up well. The marinate can best be described as Italian spices and surprisingly that worked really well with pork. The pork was cooked just right, not dry, not greasy, just good. I loved the fries — I think they rival McDonald’s in their goodness. We also had to get a homemade cookie and that was good too — they didn’t skimp on the chocolate or walnuts. Pro-tips: Cash only and they serve Coke products(a welcome sight in Pepsi country).

You’re in the Southern Tier and someone told you to eat a Spiedie ?? The spiedies served here are the epitome of our regions specialty food. They focus solely on flavor explosions so serve takeout only and by the time you get to your eating destination, you’ll be ready to take down a large. Both chicken and pork are killer and since I no longer live in the area, every return entails at least one of each.

No one works a charcoal pit quite like Lupo’s anymore — maybe I’m biased as I’ve grown up eating Lupo’s and stocking on its spiedie marinade, but my opinion hasn’t changed since I moved away from Endicott. The spiedie marinade has a flavorful bite to it. No doubt, citric acid and vinegar are key notes followed by a blend of with herbs and spices — and the smoky char! The smokiness is hardly overpowering therefore allowing the marinade, soaking through the meat and bread, stand out. The Original Lupo’s Char Pit is the original dive I remember when I think of a hidden-gem sandwich shack.
