Hook’d on Knitting

Located in the plaza with bed bath and beyond. It was high priced and I found the staff not too helpful. They suggested the wrong size needle for a pattern I was working on and when I took it back to exchange it they refused even with the receipt. I had to buy another needle for $ 20 just to complete my project. It was most unpleasant.

A wonderful yarn store. Such a beautiful selection of yarns and wonderful friendly customer service. Lots of contempary and beautiful projects and designs to choose from also. Love this store

I’m sorry to say that I had such a negative experience at this shop– I just moved to the valley from Santa Monica a few months ago. I popped into the store shortly after I moved, the in the beginning of summer. The selection was pretty bad and the vibe wasn’t that great either, but I attributed this to the season.
Today (mid-​September) I decided that I should give this place another shot. Since I just moved to the area I don’t have many places I frequent YET. I gave them a call first to see if they have «community knitting.» This is how the conversation with the person on the phone went:
Me: «hi, I’m calling to see if you have people that sit around and knit»
Them: «yes, as long as you buy your yarn here.»
Me: «so if I didn’t buy my yarn there then I’m not welcome, is that correct?»
Them: after a long pause «yeeeeeeeah.»
Me: «how do you expect to encourage new customers to feel welcome at your store to eventually buy yarn?»
Them: «all stores have this policy»
Me (bring a internationally known knitwear designer who has taught at many stores around the country, and knows this to be false): «actually that’s not the case at all, I’ve been to many stores in this country and that isn’t the policy. Most of the shops have a policy that can’t help if you haven’t bought your yarn there, but not that you aren’t welcome.»
Them: «We have to prioritize our paying customers.»
Me: «who is to say that I won’t become a paying customer? If I just moved to the area then obviously I didn’t get my yarn there, but I could for a future project.»
Them: «we have to prioritize our paying customers.»
This conversation went on like this for several minutes. In the end I was told that I was not welcome — without any remorse or apology.
As a professional in this industry this saddens me to know that there are people who hold power over the environment in which people come to knit. It saddens me to know that a craft that is supposed to encourage comraderie and the building of friendship and a community is being suppressed by such negative and unwelcoming closed minded people.
I will not be a regular or irregular customer at this store. I will never go back there nor will I recommend this shop to anyone!

If you want a relaxing place to knit, talk and just have a nice time then this is the place. There are projects for everyone. The yarn is the best around. I highly recommend this store. If your store has gone out of business come here!!!

If you look through the photos shown here you will see why I love this place. In fact I call Hook’d On Knitting «my happy place». At this LYS you will be overwhelmed with ideas about what to knit! The suggestions are always trend right with the main idea being to flatter your figure.
I come here to knit, laugh, relax and create one of a kind items that I love. One of my favorite things about this shop is that women of all ages sit around a table and share knitting ideas! Sometimes, to a new customer, it may look like a class is in session but it’s not. Everyone is welcome to join in after they buy yarn and join the group of regulars. There are always new people coming in who get Hook’d.

I have done business with this store since it opened, and had been consistent customer, but the latest feeling that this store left was a bad taste in my mouth when I was rudely spoken to in front other customers like I was 5, and reprimanded for talking to another colleague about a project that wasn’t even from her store… what shocks me is that this store still has the nerve to email me and ask for future business & classes that are being offered. There are tons of others shops out there that one can go to for knitting, if you are not part of their circle they will rudely unwelcome you, even if you have spent a great amount of money. Not a professional way to run a business that is based on leisure and hobby, it’s supposed to be fun, not nerve recking and treated rudely.

My mother was visiting from her small West Texas town and wanted to find a nice knitting store while on vacation. Since we do not have one in Santa Clarita, I looked to my trusty Unilocal,and found Hook’d on Knitting. I’m SO glad we came! The women were wonderful, and they helped my mother find her next project! The colors my mother needed weren’t in stock in the store, but the owner was kind enough to run out and get exactly what my mom needed for her project — knowing my mom was leaving in a few days. The women were kind and not «snooty» at all (something my mother feared finding in a big city), but these women were gracious and fantastic. Now my mother is a lifelong fan, and I’m sure I will be making multiple trips to get her some future presents. Great and plentiful parking behind the store was nice too! A lunch stop at the next-​door Western Bagel made the afternoon a success!

I visited yesterday while on an out of town trip. I was not all that excited by the yarns — they were OK but nothing special. I picked out a couple of balls to buy, and then sat down at the table to knit a little while on my current project. Only 1 person was in the store, but after a couple of minutes 3 women (including the manager/​owner?) came in with their lunch. I tried to chat with them but was basically ignored. Then the owner came over and asked me not to knit using yarn from somewhere else. I said, «really, I am going to buy some yarn», and she said yes, it was store policy. That someone could see what I was knitting and ask where they could get the yarn. I was from out of town! This was the project I was currently working on! I felt very unwelcome, and I left without buying the yarn I picked out. Not planning to go back ever again, or to recommend to any of my friends.

Disappointed with guest connections. Felt a very uncomfortable, unfriendly and unwelcoming environment…

Great locally owned and operated knitting store. My girlfriend and good friend are into knitting and they totally are in love with this shop. The women there are literally like a second family to them.
The store itself is well decorated and warm. From what I hear the products are great. The overall kicker is that it is more than a hobby/​material shop. It literally is like a second home and family that they have going on there. Now if I could only find a store on this level for myself…

Oh my gosh… I had a tea with a friend at Coral Tree and hopped on over to see what Hooked on Knitting had to offer.
I loved the items the former store on this location used to offer, but really had only visited them once.
The most impressive and wonderful feature about Hooked on Knitting is that every one of the knitters at the table and the owner make you feel as though you were an expected and very much appreciated guest. I loved the items they have already made up and I fell in love with an Italian yarn for my (first time) anticipated grandchild coming later this year. I bought enough yarn to make a fantastic and soft paneled baby crib blanket. Soft is not enough of a description and colorful does not truly describe the amazing flecks of delight in this yarn!
The entire staff is so great and warm.
I sort of kind of can make it past Hooked on Knitting on my way home from work. Might be late for dinner, honey!!!

Hook’d on Knitting is like the CHEERS of Encino. It’s a place where everyone knows your name and your knitting! If you want to knit and bitch or get help or just drink coffee and eat, this is THE PLACE. The yarns are fabulous and the atmosphere is calming to the nerves. This is definitely the best place ever AND they offer classes for beginners and projects to have fun with. Love, love the staff!!!

Far and away the best yarn store I have ever been to. The atmosphere is relaxing and makes you want to knit and the owner is helpful, sweet and genuinely loves people. I wouldn’t go anywhere else and look forward to many hours of knitting there with the friends I have made. A-​Plus!
