The Neurology Center

I have been to Frishberg with my daughter and thought he was detailed, thoughtful and disciplined but when I went to see him in another office I could not believe it was the same man. They doctors were arrogant and brash. It was a totally insulting waste of time. I think you are really on your own with migraines. They will give you some basic tools, like food journals to fill out and so-​so pain killers but the result is the same. You better be prepared to do your won digging to solve your problem. And after decades of migraines I say this with experience and no doubt.

The office staff is the worst from the worst. I called regarding a form that needed to be filled out in order for me to move into a new apartment complex one week prior moving in. I was calling the office multiple times to see what is the status on the form and was told that Victoria is working on it. The form was send to the leasing office but without a signature. On the day of moving in the leasing office informed me that the Neurology center is sending this form without any signature. The last time I spoked with Victoria she told me suddenly that I am no longer patient as well. Wow… what to say… when I called again, they just hang up on me. I would never expect to be dealt with like this at the doctor’s office. I believe that the doctors have no clue about what is going on at the front desk, because this treatment and giving of wrong informations to the patients is unacceptable.

No comment on the medical care, just really ticked off on being forced to use valet parking. 7 rows of parking and half is reserved for valet and construction crews then take up all available spaces.

Two years since my last review, I’m still a patient and still unhappy. If I thought I had a chance at getting my medical records transferred, I would leave here. Also, Botox has been a miracle drug for my migraines, I’m terrified my insurance won’t approve it with a new provider.
Anywho, when in the office recently for my 12 week appointment, I was moved from the front where as usual, very loud personal conversations are taking place, into the back where the staff are complaining about patients and talking about unplugging the phones so they don’t have to deal with the phone calls. They don’t even pretend to keep their voices down. This office takes inappropriateness to a whole new level.

I really like Dr. Oh but some of the staff is terrible!!!
It takes months to get an appointment. They aren’t flexible and won’t keep a list to call you if something opens up. I normally wait 15 – 30 minutes to be called in and yet today I was caught in terrible traffic and called several times without getting an answer. They were out to lunch and you cannot leave a message. By the time I got someone to answer, I let them know I was running a few minutes late and would be there by 1:10 for my 1:00 appointment that was scheduled 4 months ago, and instead of thanking me for the call, Marie proceeded to tell me that if I wasn’t there by 1:15 they would not see me. I told her that I am in tremendous pain and had been waiting for 4 months and that I had to see the doctor and she again, rudely, said «well if you’re not here by 1:15 we won’t see you!»
Absolute worst!

The worst management. No responsibility. They are now making appointments at random. No notification they where made. My neurologist retired with no notice. If you want to be a number and not a patient come here. Lack of respect and herding like cattle is there rutine. As many patients as possible. Way more than they can properly care for any of them. Terrible.

After reading the reviews on Dr. Blumenfeld, I am in absolute shock. I couldn’t disagree more. For everyone one of those complaints, I can name four patient, obviously including myself, that I meet in the waiting room that are thrilled with him and can’t say enough about how amazing he is. On a personal level, I have suffered from migraines since the age of 14. When imitrex came out, it changed my life. I went into early menopause 5 years ago at 46 and was suffering daily migraines. Then two years ago, my life changed. I was introduced to Dr. Blumenfeld. He has changed my life. He doesn’t push medications. If he does recommend something, I trust that he is the one with the medical degree and has a reason for it! Personally, he does a cutting edge procedure that only four neurologist that I know of if the state of California can perform. I actually have migraine free days. In addition to that, he is a caring individual, who remembers details about my 26 year old and cares enough to ask. He looks at the complete picture, Stress, Sleeping studies, etc, As far as the front staff, they are top notch and not only professional, but caring. I usually go to the La Jolla office. As a matter of fact, I was talking to a client, who knew I had been seeing an amazing neurologist. When she heard it was Dr. Blumenfeld, she couldn’t believe it! She said, everyone says that he is the absolute best! I think my favorite part of him is his humility. He won’t even take a compliment. And if people actually believe that they are never going to have to wait at a Doctors office, they don’t live in reality. Hopefully, the doctor gets it as close as possible, or on time, but you just can’t anticipate what a patients needs are going to be. I could fill these pages with at least 25 to 30 people who are thrilled with Dr. Blumenfeld. They just have better things to do with their time. I actually feel sorry for these people who complained. They should get a life.

This place is awful. I typically have to wait an hour or longer for scheduled appointments. The doctors clearly think their time is more precious than the patient’s.
The doctors fail to look at what is the causing the issue but instead chose to push Botox on all patients. They must make a killing on commission or something.
I’ve been doing Botox for my headaches for a long time. But this place has pushed me to never want to get the shots again. Hopefully with alternative medicine, I never have to visit this place again.

I started getting headaches in April 2014– never really had headaches in my life.
I started getting treatment may 2014, the only remedy they will offer me is medication– could it be my neck, my back. is it foods i am eating? none of this matters. Dr. Blumenfield is all about the meds. he pushes them on you. and doesent care what could be causing this kind of pain or how well you know your bodys reaction to different things. He suggested i take a med with a diretic in it. I told him my body does not do well with this kind of medicine, he said we cannot move forward if your not willing to let me help you, trust me he said… he leaned in closer and whispered, insurance purposes. i knew better than to take that med. but for the sake of my insurance. toto advance to the next leve of care. i went along and took the meds as told for 9 days. my reults: severe shaking of my hands and feet yes my feet., heart was racing, pins and needles in my feet and hands. face was numb. AND i lost 9 lbs in 9 days. not cool since i am a petite 100 lb girl in my 40’s. and still had a headache.
i get back to dr. blumenfield and the first thing he says is how are you feeling, and i told him i had to stop the medication, he said why. i said because i was over anxious, lost to much weight, have not been able to eat OR drink. i am hurting, my head is killing me. i am almost in tears now. he raises his hand like a kid in class and says. if your this upset you need to walk out of here, find a new doctor i dont have time for this, i asked what can you do for me, he said if your not willing to try dfferent medications, then we are done. i said fine… walked out.
but let me give you a little heads up about the neurology center website homepage and why i chose to go there:

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME… look carefully at the bad reviews. there are many. the good ones probably came from family members or the doctor himself.

Do not go to this practice. My wife’s doctor is good, but all that everyone else has previously posted about the support staff is absolutely true. It is impossible to make contact with your doctor other than by scheduled appointment. Phones go unanswered, or if you should be lucky enough to have a live person answer, they are invariably offhand and seem resentful that you troubled them. During her last appt., my wife complained to her doctor about this. The doctor replied that she has heard it before, and gave my wife two phone extensions that she could call to speak to the doctor’s medical assistants, but that has not helped. A few days afterwards, my wife needed to get some clarifications from the doctor about new medication, so she called one of the extensions and spoke with the medical assistant. Believing that she needed to actually discuss the issues with the doctor in person, she requested a call back from her doctor. After two days without receiving any call from the doctor, or anyone else, she tried the other extension (supposedly at the Escondido office) several times over a two day period. At each attempt, no one answered the phone and she only got voicemail. She left a message anyway, asking for a call back, but as of today, there has been no response.
Totally frustrating!!!

(Review from my wife :) Ok, based on the two reviews posted on here the very idea of this place gave me anxiety, but. I was pleasantly surprised, It’s easy to find, on the first floor of building to the right before the elevator, The receptionist was very nice and welcoming, If your a new patient print your incoming paperwork and do it at home it will save you time:) there wasn’t to many people in the waiting room but it was a 9:30am appt, not sure if that was why, The waiting room itself was pretty inviting, lots of mags, big window and a beautiful fish tank (very calming for a anxious fool such as myself) My doctor, Dr Oh was amazing, she wasn’t rushing asked a ton of useful questions and helped me sort out my issue and put it into a better perspective than I had walking in, A round of applause for her, I’ve seen a lot of doctors lately and she was a breath of fresh air. This was my first appt, I have another soon, and more tests In between so if there’s any change in service I will update this review but I just wanted to put up one positive review just in case someone like me reads the first two and gets ancy about going there, it was not a horrible experience for me, I have really bad anxiety and bad service really gets my goat and I actually felt calmer walking out than when I got there… So give them a try and review them after so we can get a better idea of overall service, it’s easy to remember to review when you had a bad time, that’s why I made sure to post this one, also no one goes here because of nothing, I hope you find your answers fast and they are as helpful and as nice to you as they were to me today :) thanks for reading the lack of punctuation mess of a review I posted and enjoy some life!!!

front office staff is extremely rude and disorganized! I had finished seeing the Dr. and on my way out I asked if I needed to check out, I was very abruptly told to have a seat and wait till they helped people checking in. After waiting they didn’t need anything from me and I could have just left. It was ridiculous. The medical care is great!

The office is HORRIBLE!!! The management of office is poorly ran and since bringing my mother in for Parkinson’s visits over last six months they have absolutely disappointed us on SO many levels. Today being another example! Booked my mother’s appointment in house five weeks ago and IMMEDIATELY put into my iPhone calendar. Woke up early on day off to bring her in and they moved her appointment to a month from now with NO phone call. The front desk scheduling manager (female in 50’s with brown shoulder length hair) is rude, bossy and in every way an horrible decision to have this kind of a person deal with any human being one on one. Will pull my mother’s records and moving on to another practice even if I must travel a bit more distance. I say STAY AWAY from this Encinitas Neurology Center unless you want to pull your hair out :-)!

I was in extreme ntense pain from a ruptured disk and Dr. Lobatz was a life-​saver. He got me into an MRI right away and to pain management where an epidermal steroid injection took away almost all the pain in two days. I was able to get into physical therapy as a result, and now can walk again almost pain free.

This has got to be one of the worst MD. offices in Encinitas. Dr. Lobatz gave me and my son a lecture on how he doesn’t get paid for talking on the phone to other MD’s about a case. He promised to call my son’s pain MD to coordinate some treatment… this was NEVER done. Thanks so much for caring about a patient of yours in terrible pain.
The next time my son went he was left in the exam room for 2 hours and no one ever came in to tell him why they were so late. He finally left. The PA called him 5 days later to tell him that he had had a difficult patient and so was very behind schedule that day. Really? Someone could have told him that before he waited 2 hours and left. It took the PA 5 days to realize he should apologize?
And when I tried to get his medical records it took me 7 phone calls and over 1 ½ hours to accomplish this… over several days partly because when you leave a message no one calls you back. This office is chaotic and difficult to deal with and all we get when we see the MD. is another pill or change the dosage. There has never been any particular feeling or thinking about what is really going on to help him. He is a difficult case, I realize. but the only attention he gets is for the 15 — 20 min. we are in the office and then no one cares much about what happens to you after. I, unfortunately have put up with this for a long time and I just wanted to make a review before someone else gets as frustrated as we have been.
The worst type of medical practice in my opinion and I have been dealing with MD’s for my son for over 25 years.
