Karla has been cutting my hair since waaaay back in the day when she was at Fusion Salon (now closed) on Cedros. She did my hair for prom and it was basically a love at first sight kind of thing. I totally trust Karla with my hair — and I have SHORT (like boy hair short) hair, which is not easy to cut (one time I made the mistake of going to the Paul Mitchell school in Costa Mesa and… yeah. Let’s just say, the supervising teacher basically cut my hair haha). I ONLY have her cut my hair… I drive down from LA just to get it cut (and with short hair, that’s pretty often). Whenever I go in, I never have a specific style in mind, I just tell her what I’m generally looking for, or sometimes even tell her to just do whatever she thinks would look best and she’s never disappointed me! Sometimes I want something more conservative, sometimes I want something more funky, and she has no problem doing those and anything in between. I can’t really say how she is with longer hair, since it’s been a long time since I’ve had long hair, but she’s definitely very skilled with shorter hairstyles. When I first met her, I had long long hair and had never considered cutting it short (thank you 10+ years of ballet and your bun requirement!). One day she suggested that perhaps in the future I should consider cutting my hair short because she thought it would be fitting. I decided to be spontaneous and cut it shoulder length that day, and five years later still haven’t gone back to long hair. Thank you, Karla, for your excellent eye! Otherwise I never in my life would have considered doing that and would probably still have long hair. And according to numerous friends… and strangers… short hair fits me well :)
On top of being a great hairstylist, she also has a great personality… like if I still lived in San Diego I’d want to hang out with her great personality. She’s super friendly and you always feel at ease with her.
And as one of the filtered reviews (not sure why it’s filtered though.?) said, she does hair shows for Scruples so… you know she’s pretty legit.
Another plus is I always make my appointments with her via text — super convenient!

Karla is amazing! She is the owner and she really knows what she is doing with hair! I’m been going to Karla for the last 2 years and have never been let down. She also does amazing color. She wants your opinion and really listens to what you want. But if you have no idea what you want she’s also great at giving you a haircut that really fits you. I also love all the other services you can receive at the salon. If you want your nails done just head upstairs, same thing if you’d love outstanding skin care. Overall the best experience I’ve ever had! I recommend this place to anyone who lives in the San Diego Area.

My wife and I have been getting our hair cut/​done many years now by the amazing Karla. She does a wonderful job and is very knowledgeable in all aspects of her work. I highly recommend her and have sent many friends and family to Illusions hair studio. She’s funny and has a great understanding as to what will look good on everyOne.
