I finally gave Gordys a try today and it was pretty good. I give the bakery 3.5 stars. The prices are really cheap for coffee and baked goods. They almost have the same names as Peets Coffee drinks I think. Anyways, I got the B Bar and the Le Bar and they pretty taste the same. The B Bar was supposed to have walnut and chocolate and somethings else and the Le Bar was supposed to be the closest thing they have to a lemon bar. Both bars were $ 3, generous size of bar, but because they both were covered in oats, I didn’t really taste a difference :/I will definitely go back again to try the coffee and the other baked goods they have.

great customer service, great cakes\bars, nice seating outside in front, Definitely stop by if you’re feeling that caffeine craving or want to feed that sweet tooth. They have all that you need. I think they even have wifi.

This coffeeshop/bakery is quirky and cute! They have totally rad/nerdy décor all around, and their food is also themed. I’m a big fan of the bacon/cheese scone thing, which they will also warm up for you. I get the iced coffee, so not much to say about that. it’s iced and it’s coffee. Their frequent buyer’s cards are super cute too!

Cute little bakery in Encinitas with some killer & unique muffins aka plonks! They also offer a variety of other baked goodies like scones, sweet bars and meet pies. The décor of this coffee shop/bakery is a bit peculiar, bright colored walls with some random posters. I wouldn’t call it the space inside cozy, there are just a few seats and tables. The most of the seating space is outdoors. At first, i wanted to get a scone but then i laid my eyes on all these healthy style muffins and i forgot all about the scone. Plonks are baked with all kinds of goodies like nuts, berries, oats, bran, honey and taste simply fantastic to the last crumb! Perfect consistency, soft and chewy with loads of nuts and a hint of cinnamon. I’ve tried the original kind and there are a few other varieties to pick from.

Some of you might think 5-stars is excessive, but when I got there, service is quick and consistent in terms of awesome, friendly staff, and tasty eats of all plonks, sausage roll and a variety of bars(I’m very partial to the date bar). Coffee orders are made quick and while I do appreciate the art of coffee, I do expect a solid hot drink. Again, consistency.

Gordy’s blew away my expectations! Nothing fancy on the outside, but when I stepped in it was an awesome, eclectic pop art infused, groovy concert poster riddled coffee shop/bakery. I’m positive I’ll be back to enjoy good grinds and great variety of pastries and scones.

Great place with cool artwork and yummy treats. My favorite is the ‘Lunch Lady’ bar. Its a yummy peanut butter-oatmeal bar that is almost a candy. Definitely not a low calorie treat, but worth it for special occasions. Get one to share with a friend!

Can’t get enough! Since I discovered Gordy’s several months back, I have become a regular afternoon visitor with my office just up the street. Will sometimes treat myself to a delicious monkey bar with my regular afternoon espresso and sit for a few minutes just to enjoy the British pop décor. Prices are extremely reasonable as well. Definitely more of a drop in and out place but worth patronizing.

Super good. They even have gluten-free baked items, as well as great regular ones. I was surprised to find such good coffee, goodies, and ambience in this little strip mall. Well done, Gordy’s! This is a place you can go and relax.

It was still dark outside — way too early for a night-owl like me to be up, but alas I had an early assignment to complete. So, I rolled out of bed with my eyes barely open and drove my kids down to San Diego. I still have no idea how we made it in one piece, but we did. One of my kids was kind enough to treat me to a nice hot cup of coffee before arriving at our destination. We stopped by Gordy’s Bakery, a small mom n’ pop shop, as it was along the way. Gordy’s is an intimate bakery with a quirky personality. The bold artwork on the walls and exotic pastry names gives the café a touch of sass to the fresh baked goods and strong coffee. I ordered a Vanilla Chai Tea Latte and it was just what I needed to stay awake for the remainder of the day. I can certainly imagine this small shop as a popular destination for friends to catch up or for busy individuals like myself to grab and go. It’s definitely a local spot and if you’re looking for a place to help start your day, this one a solid choice.

I’m new to Encinitas and found Gordy’s on Unilocal. My friend ordered a chai tea latte and I had a dirty chai. Both exceptional, especially my dirty chai! The pasteries look amazing, and I can’t wait to come back and try the plonk and the bran muffin.

Man, these people make a mean traditional English Scone! I went all English on this visit to Gordy’s and ordered an Earl Grey Tea and a traditional English Currant Scone, as seen on television apparently. The Earl Grey was what I expected with its distinctive citrus flavor and mild mangold petals flavor. It was dark and full bodied. The scone was terrific. The density was just right: dense enough that it was firm, but moist enough that it was easy to eat and pull apart. The currants were nice as well. They were not to hard, and still provided a bit of a chew. They offered a mild sweetness that went well with the breading of the scone. They liked popped in the mouth as I encountered them in every bite. They offer free WiFi, but you need to ask for the password. They some seating inside and a lot outside. They offer a wide range of baked goods, including a variety of bars, plonks, cookies, small pies, muffins, and short breads. The Brits sure know how to make a scone…

Love this place! It has such a cool vibe with the gig posters on the wall and a Pee Wee Herman flying above the tables. And lest we forget the Queen with the her corgies on the bakery case! So, yes, it’s a bonus that the bakery items are incredible. The bars and plunks are my favorites(all of them), but you can’t go wrong with the brownie or the scones. I bring my Brit friends here for Sausage Rolls & Meat Pies too. Don’t like quality baked goods(yeah, some crazy carb-starved SD NoCo types don’t), then you’ll be cool with the coffee. We’ve even brought some of their beans home, it’s that good. My only wish would be for more indoor seating.

I both live and work nearby and I go to the CVS center frequently. I have driven past Gordy’s hundreds of times and seen people sitting on the sidewalk tables. Today I was looking for a good bagel and thought I would finally stop in and check the place out. I was surprised that they do not bake fresh bagels, but that’s ok if this bakery doesn’t want to serve a popular item like bagels. The coffee was excellent flavor. My main criticism was the pricing for the food items were very overpriced. Just about every alternative to a bagel was $ 3.50 and up. Ok, so people who go there to meet a friend don’t want bagels and they don’t care about paying a lot for a relatively small food item, but I can see this is not the place for me. I drove across the street to Moonlight Deli(@ the Cheveron gas station) and got a great onion bagel stuffed with cream cheese(toasted 1st) for $ 1.99. The thing about restaurants, coffee houses and even bakeries different ones meet the needs of different people. For me, Gordy’s is a «Meh, I’ve experienced better» bakery For those of you who love it, keep doing what you like.

Come for the baked goodies and stay for the fun décor! How can you resist a place that not only has delicious food, but Pee Wee Herman flying overhead as well? My children and I needed a pick-me-up and Gordy’s delivered. We will be back very soon.

It seems Encinitas has more than one ringer in the bakery category. By simply heading east on Encinitas Blvd from Hwy 1(aka Pacific Coast Hwy), you pass three that I know of. And Gordy’s is the very first you will encounter. Very much worth the stop. Gordy’s, stuck in the middle of a strip mall, gives the impression of a good, old fashioned mom and pop business. Little tables are set up outside, plenty of shade, and a water bowl set outside inviting your canine companion for a visit. Inside it is tiny. There is a long list of coffee drinks on the wall. And most importantly, their shelves are stocked with some mighty good looking baked goods. It is the kind of place where you would probably giggle and say, «One of each, please»…and mean it. I zeroed in on the huge and hearty muffins. With quite a variety of choices, all gently sweetened with dates, fruits and spices, then given a chewy but tender texture from oats, bran, and/or other grains, not to mention some have nuts, they are definitely a stomach filler upper. I love something with substance, and these fit right in there.(And a fabulous and tasty way to employ Mother Nature’s Roto-Rooter service.) Since their muffin names are cute but mostly non-descriptive(The Plonk, The Durfy, The Big Bang), their website menu can give you details as to their special ingredients if you must know. I personally loved my spiced Pumpkin Muffin(cleverly described as «putting the gourd in gordy») ! For the health minded, there is even one that is a low fat, dairy free, no sugar added version, called the Fruit Bomb. Our meat pies had a generous ground beef filling, although there were more than one filling to choose from. The beef was made savory with a touch of thyme, and rolled into a hand pie using a light, flakey pastry crust. The concept and execution were great, but that filling did not do much for me. I would go back to try the others(Sausage and Vegetarian Sausage). The shortbread was nothing short of amazing. Very delicate and intensely buttery. And gratefully, not so sweet… actually, just right. I loved everything about this place! I am a happy convert.

Do I look fat in this? I don’t mind if you say yes, because Gordy’s Bakery is worth every gooey(and glorious) bite. I had the gluten-free Plonk muffin and the meat pie. The Plonk muffin is a hodgepodge of good-for-you ingredients while still packing plenty of flavor. And it’s moist(you don’t have to worry about it tasting dry at all), and it’s huge, and it’s filling. Be sure to heat the meat pie(you can ask them to microwave it) before enjoying — I didn’t think about it and just ate mine unheated. Still, the savory meat inside tasted delicious! There’s indoor and outdoor seating. Gordy’s Bakery is dog-friendly and even has a water bowl outside for dogs. I brought mine with me! He approves of both the Plonk muffin and meat pie that he enthusiastically helped me devour. Gordy’s Bakery is located in the same plaza as Coco’s and CVS.
