This establishment has exceeded my expectations. The owner and his wife both have the experience and knowledge of knowing my needs regarding eyeglass frame, and styles. My bifocals are the best of clarity among the previous prescriptions I have had in the past. Thank you Mary Ann.

I’ve been buying my glasses here for years and years. and years. I have severe astigmatism, and Doug & Marianne have always guided me to frames that will work well with with my Rx challenge. Doug uses a lab that grinds my lenses as thin as they can be. I could get cheaper glasses through Kaiser Optometry. I don’t. The staff at Kaiser, after passing my glasses around in amazement, told me their lab could not produce lenses like what I get at Europtics.
My last drop-​in was for a replacement nose pad. I didn’t mention it, but Doug & Marianne noticed that the finish on my frame had chipped. A week later I got a call from Doug, saying he had contacted the supplier and they were sending a new frame. Today, my lenses were popped into that new frame at no charge. Again, they really are the very best.

Called about getting lenses adjusted and the woman who answered was very rude and said she couldn’t help me.

I was looking for something special snd they have a fantastic selection of handmade frames from Europe. The staff is very helpful as they have a trained eye for finding the perfect eyeglasses for you. I highly recommend.

As has been already said, this is the place where you want to buy your next pair of glasses… period. I promised so… not only a fantastic, unique selection of frames from all over the world, and a friendly & very knowledgeable owners pair of Marianne and Doug, but most importantly, by far the best progressive lenses I have ever owned. It’s amazing that these lens could be so much better than the very many glasses I have ever bought, but it’s for real true… I walked outside and the clarity was amazing… If you get a chance buy your glasses here, you will be happy…

Best place in San Diego for high quality frames and optical work. Especially if you have a complex prescription. Doug and his wife Mary Anne are very professional know what they are doing. The selection is excellent and they are always looking for new and unique frames from around the world.

I was contacted by the owner and she apologized. I know being a small shop this review must of keep of coming up… The store is small but has a beautiful selection of sunglasses and prescription glasses. I will wholeheartedly come back and purchase from this establishment. Check the store out its on Coast Hwy and there is an array of cute shops you can visit. This street makes a great family outing and you can dine, go to the beach after your shoping. The social nightlife is good too. There is lot of bars and food and I can pretty much say there is something for everyone. So give this store a vist!

Some of the best frames that are not found anywhere else. Designer, advanced materials, etc. The owners are very nice as, well. But the prices for the lenses and frames can be 5x Costco’s.
The owner explained that their (progressive) lenses are made differently and are more advanced and provide a greater range of sharpens as you look off to the sides and up and down. So I reluctantly ordered a pair that was about $ 1000. I decided to also get an extra pair from Costco to see if I could observe a difference. Yes, the difference was significant and I could see more clearly with EO’s lenses. In fact the glasses are better than any I have ever had.

I got my new glasses with polarized lenses and Doug kept telling me that I was gonna see a whole bunch better when I had them on. In the store everything was a little red tinted I really didn’t notice until I got outside and got my car. Unbelievable, crazy, couldn’t believe it I was seeing it made everything look I thousand times nicer outside. I wish I had done this 30 years ago. The only problem is I’m going to have is I take a lot of photos and when I think I’m seeing something good it really isn’t.

I strolled into Europtics this afternoon after having carried around my disassembled favorite Tres Noir sunglasses for weeks, completely unable to find screws to fit. I asked the friendly fella at the counter if there was any possibility they might have the appropriate screws for the job and he pleasantly disappeared with my sunglasses for a moment, came back with them all assembled, polished and refused my $ 5 for his efforts. Clearly these guys are doing something right, as is obvious by all the stellar Unilocal reviews, but I’ll add my two cents as a non-​paying customer all the same. Thank you, Europtics!

I don’t write a ton of reviews, but I feel like one is warranted here. I recently took a pair of favorite sunglasses I had to Europtics and asked them to fashion new lenses with a small prescription. «No problem, you’ll have ‘em in a few days» I was told…
…when I came to pick them up, they had produced prescription lenses with a shaded lens — problem was I was looking for a clear lens so as to drive at night. I’m honestly not sure if I simply placed my order wrong, or something else got mixed up. But when the owner Doug was explained the problem, he immediately apologized and took ownership of the issue. I said «No worries, this stuff happens», to which he replied «Not here it doesn’t».
Conclusion: Doug came through with the clear lens I was looking for in just 2 days time, upgraded the lens quality at his expense and totally blew me away with his old school approach to customer service. I’d highly recommend anyone looking for a personal touch to visit this shop — I was very impressed at how Doug handled this issue and feel like this type of thing is what’s missing in many customer service interactions these days.

Excellent service and attention to detail. Was in the market for new frames, one that actually fit my face and matched my prescription. (On my previous pair of glasses, there is no way the retail shop at my optometrist should have recommended rimless frames based on my prescription).
Enter Europtics… within seconds of entering the shop, Marianne was there to assist me. After sizing me up – as well as taking into account my prescription – she immediately zoomed in on one particular pair of round Lindberg frames that fit my face perfectly. I ended up purchasing these frames and could not be happier.
Europtics is not the lowest priced shop around, but what good is it to save money only to pick a pair of frames that do not match your face or prescription – not here. I did end up ordering my lenses elsewhere, as Europtics does not accept VSP and I figured the selection of the frames was more important (her husband, Doug, is a meticulous lens craftsman, however). Nevertheless, I would not hesitate to purchase another pair of frames from this company, based on the attention and service I received, and wholeheartedly recommend Europtics for you next purchase.

The staff is fabulous here. I went in for a repair on my glasses and within a few minutes they fit like new and they refused to take any money for the work. I will definitely recommend them to everyone and will be back when I need new sunglasses Thank you!!!

Great customer service. I went into Europtics for the first time yesterday to have my glasses adjusted since I had smashed them out of whack the day before. They were quick and very helpful.

Great selection and very helpful customer service.
Started off looking for a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses. Looked up retail shops recommended on the company website. Europtics was listed. They had the Aloha Friday’s I was looking for, unlike some other places. In addition, they carry EyeBobs reading glasses. You could purchase cheap reading glasses at your local pharmacy. But once you buy a pair of EyeBobs, I’ll surprised if anyone would return to cheaply made reading glasses.
For me, one of the few items in my life I don’t skimp on are glasses. Poor quality glasses is like bottom shelf liquor. Easy on the wallet, but end up with a headache.
Five star review: For starters, previously went to Europtics competitor out of convenience. Not only was I insulted by the competitor, but pressured to purchase sunglasses they had in stock. And of course, I left and never to return. Days following telephoned Europtics to know if Aloha Fridays were in stock. The lady who answered the telephone kindly put me on hold to verify. She said they were. I much prefer to be put on hold then to drive the distance and learned the item I was looking for was not in stock.
In the store, Doug who assisted me in my purchase was very courteous, friendly and helpful w/​o being pushy– perfect! In addition, he took notice to my EyeBobs and I then discovered they carried the EyeBobs line. Bought a pair of those also.
Bottom line: Have heard nothing but great reviews from friends and family about Europtics. and from now on, all my future purchases for reading and sunglasses will be at Europtics.

This is a very charming little shop, in the charming little Lumberyard district, with a charming couple running it. This place is set apart from other optical lens shops, because of it’s great (and unique) selection. Their selection is actually something quite admirable. I ended up purchasing a very nice pair of late-​model Ray-​Bans, but it was a difficult choice! The lady that had helped me was very helpful both the first time I came and looked, and the second time I came and purchased. The only complaint I would have is towards the steeper prices and the fact that they didn’t accept my optical insurance. Other than that, it is actually a pleasant little eye-​wear boutique to shop at especially if you’re interested in unique/​new frames, and you can also get good insights and style opinions.

I see all of these reviews, a host of 5 stars and a lone «1-​star» review from a lady who spent 2 grand on eyewear. You just can’t please all the people all of the time.
In my world, a business is either 5 star or no-​star (ie: 1 star).
Europtics is one of those high end strip mall type places that I usually bet against staying in business. But I think proprietor and glass-​smith Doug gets it right. He’s a craftsperson who does top end work, so it isn’t a low-​ballers market at this outlet.
I brought my wife in to look at some high-​end designer frames fro her. She needs special lenses and also a frame to accentuate her features. We had a pleasant experience their and found that the owner wanted to work with us and that he could solve a lens problem for us without being prompted to do so. This is why owner Doug, his wife and their team can stay in business through the various cycles. A great place and we were happy to do business there.

Took broken glasses in… didn’t buy them here (from out of town).
Guy behind the counter is professional, calm, says bring them back and give him an hour. $ 8. Fixed. Beautiful. In Encinitas you might expect to get gouged; the arm of my eyeglasses was barely hanging on and I was SOL without professional help.
