Established in 1980.

Proudly serving Encinitas and our local communities since 1980. Starting as Stanton Auto, Alex offered auto repairs until 1999 when he became a Smog Test Only Station.

As of January 2013 Alex and his techs are proud to be Bureau of Automotive Repair Starred Certified techs. Also offering smog related repairs and the C.A.P. program. Let us know how we may help you with your smog needs.

Star Certifed Tech Jeff, has worked for Alex over 13 years and has extensive experience smogging exotic cars.

Business Owner

Alex has been at this location for over 30 years. Starting as an auto repair shop in 1980. He opened Encinitas Smog in 1999. Alex has been an upstanding contributor and supporter of the local community since 1980.

Alex now enjoys having 3 of his 5 sons work with him. Kenneth and Nathan work at the front desk and Daniel is now a Star Certified Tech in the garage.

Alex enjoys having the Encinitas Classic Car Cruise Nights in his parking lot during the summer and various community events through the year.

I made the mistake of using a coupon for a place in Carlsbad, and by the time they added on additional charges it was way more than Encinitas Smog and my car didn’t pass. Passed first time at Encinitas Smog!

Even with my mistake (called the wrong business for appointment) the gentleman running the front office was very sweet and helped me out! These guys are more expensive, than a few I’ve used, but this is all they do! Great service and very fast!

Made an appointment same day (Saturday) with Nathan since my usual smog place was not available due to a broken machine. The tech was very nice but must’ve smoked a bowl before smogging my older truck because he was fumbling around, seemed out of it or lost, kinked the hose on the tailpipe probe, then the probe fell out of the tailpipe while on the rollers, he was on the phone a lot, wandered around a lot, etc. Took him over an hour to get it done since he had to redo it several times. In the end, my truck passed and I was happy. However, I was a bit nervous that it would not pass, then I would have to wonder if it was really my truck or the tech doing the test wrong. However, I can attest to the fact that every other car or truck being smogged in the next bay by the other dude took about 15 – 20 minutes each. I will be back again but I will just try to avoid getting «Shaggy» again as my tech.

There’s a reason why it’s so busy here-​they know what they’re doing. Made an appointment on a very busy Saturday and was passed and done in 45 minutes-​even got a discount from
Nathan just for asking. Don’t waste your time or any frustration with the corner shop that takes your money. Here if you don’t pass they give you FREE retests for 90 days!!! Friendly, smart, quick and THE smog experts!!!

Always good friendly service and reasonably fast. Nathan does a great job and is great for customer service. Only bad thing is if your car has a problem, you then have to take it to another place to repair, and then because you have already paid the smog check fee, you have to go back. If you think your car may have an issue it best to go to someone like the Shell on el Camino where they can repair it at the same time so it is only one trip instead of three.

They really know what they are doing! Especially knowledgeable about my old Volvo turbo. My car had not passed before and they knew that for my car it needed to warm up a bit and then it was fine. Saved me a ton of money on trying to fix what did not need to be fixed! Thanks guys! And came in under what they quoted… did I mention honest?

This is the place to go for a smog check. I have been here many times over the years and have always found that the service is fast and the staff is friendly and honest. They are a smog check only center, so you don’t have to worry about them looking for other problems to repair.
Last time I made the mistake of going somewhere else. The other place found a problem that ended up costing me a lot of money to repair. I don’t know if the problem was there before I went in or if it was a created problem so that they could make money off of me. I ended up taking my car somewhere else to have the work done, but I will never know if they caused the problem or not. The car was very low miles, so it was very suspicious.
This time I went back to the Encinitas Smog Center because I knew I could trust them. I had an appointment and got in immediately upon arrival. I walked across the street to Whole Foods and by the time I got back 15 minutes later the smog check was done.

Everyone here is so nice, and the service is quick and efficient! My boyfriend and I have both gone here, and thankfully, our arms both passed. Plenty of places to eat around here so go at a time when you can have breakfast or lunch nearby and then grab your car after.
Usually takes about 30 minutes and the price for a smog check is around $ 45.

If getting your car to pass smog has been difficult and has you stressed out, come to Encinitas Smog Center. They are skilled techs and will provide the best service in town. I was having a problem passing smog and had spent money with another shop in town with no resolve. I brought my car to Encinitas Smog Center and shared my frustration with the owner Alex. He was very nice and was able to fix the issue at a very fair price. I was also able to renew my registration at the shop and drove away with new tags.
They should change there name to Encinitas Smog Super Heros.

Nathan is so helpful. I called recently on a Saturday morning and got an appointment that afternoon. The car was done before I got back from a 15 minute errand at WholeFoods. Encinitas Smog provides great service.

BEWARE! If your check engine light is on, it’s an automatic fail. They could tell you upfront before they do anything but they won’t. They want your $ 50.

Encinitas Smog center is the only place that I smog my vehicles. For years out VW Eurovan failed every year. We heard that driving the rig around to heat it up would burn out some of the crud. We drove the van in hot and they helped us get the test done immediately and this was the difference between passing and failing.
This year we replaced the catalytic converter and some hoses but wanted to have a retest option, just in case. Encinitas Smog is the only local center with a free retest.
Our van passed promptly with flying colors today.
I love this place.
