Brent was great. I broke a board and it cost me a lot less than I expected. Felt like I got off easy. Was nice to be able to swap out boards too.

So, you are in town and want to go surf, or need some lessons? Check out Concept Surf Shop! Brent is the man to meet. He also has some of the most awesome teachers around. Ken is a great really teacher, he was the man who started me on my surfing addiction.
So let’s do the math. Great customer service + quality boards + excellent instructors +
super ridiculously close to some sweet D– Street waves. It’s kind of a no-​brainer.

Ken was a great instructor. He worked really hard and was very patient and knowledgable. The wet suits were brand new and the boards were in great shape. It was well worth the money. I’d recommend them to anyone.

We’ve rented bikes here a few times and always enjoy the transaction. The store is super small but they cram in a lot of inventory. Brent, the owner, is terrific and will go the extra mile to satisfy his customers.

Brent, the store owner and instructor is such a great guy to deal with. He’s always willing to go the extra mile for his customers to make sure everyone is completely satisfied. I bought some gear here in the past and you’ll not find anyone more knowledgeable about surfing, lessons or the area. From rentals to instruction, Concept Surf has it all.

The owner Brent is a stand-​up guy and works tirelessly to make his customers happy; we’ve rented bikes here several times. A friend from out of town wanted to try surfing, and our «instructor» Cat showed up late, was not nice, and then was a total fail at surf instruction. Despite crappy Cat, this is still our go-​to joint because Brent is awesome and will do what it takes to make things right — just ask for someone other than Cat for surf lessons.

We got here this morning at 11 ish am to rent surfboards for the first time. What got us there was the website that was impressive visually and nice & simple. Brent is the owner and was professional with us. The surfboard and wetsuit we rented was in great condition and he gave us good beginner’s advice. Will definitely try again!

My husband and I went to Encinitas for a quick vacation. Our surf lesson was the best thing we did! We had a surf lesson in LA, where we live, but we didn’t learn. Brent hooked us up and Casey got us standing in the first lesson. Can’t wait to take another lesson!

I had the best time! My instructor, Sam was so Awesome, she helped catch at least 30 – 40 waves! They provided a wet suit and fun board. The beach is just down the street from surf shop. Very professional And personal. Highly reccommended.

On a trip down to San Diego for a wedding, I was determined to fit in my very first surf lesson. Brent totally hooked it up! I had called several other places well in advance and was finding everything booked (I guess this was the busiest week of the year for all the surf camps).
Anyway, Brent fit us in for a private lesson for me and my husband. We found the shop easily, checked in, and our surf instructor, Brandon, came up from the beach to meet us and walk us to their set-​up on the beach.
We got quickly situated in our wetsuits, had a quick on-​the-​beach overview of the basic mechanics and set off into the waves. Brandon was awesome! With his help, I was able to stand up on probably my third or fourth attempt. My husband picked it up pretty quick and was able to keep going on his own, while I got the attention and tips I needed from the instructor.
Overall, an amazing experience. I have not stopped talking about it since I returned to the Bay Area. I would highly recommend trying surfing and especially this establishment to anyone! Thanks Brandon for the lesson, and thanks Brent for fitting us in!

Family owned and operated local business. The owner is a great guy. Runs the Encinitas Rec Dept surf camp. He’s all about introducing kids to surfing. He’ll get all my surf related business.

Just returned from a week in Encilitas with my family. Found Concept online on last day. Too bad as we would have been there earlier if we had only known what a great shop and accommodating owner Brent was. He set us up with wet suits and board for my two kids in no time and even made special arrangements for us so we could return the rentals after hours. That doesn’t happen often anymore and even better was the very reasonable cost. My 15yo son says Brent is «super chill». I just hope the business doesn’t get too big before we return ’cause it couldn’t get any better!

This is the best place in San Diego County for surf board rentals, wet suits and lessons. I had my entire extended family in town for a wedding last summer. Brent hooked up all the nieces and nephews with the right boards and lessons. They had so much fun they went back two days later and surfed again. Brent is knowledgable and fair. If we have someone staying in our vacation rental I send them to Brent because I know he will take care of them.

The owner (Matisse) is an incredible little fluffy dog, who owns Brent (the lovely guy at the front desk!).
The location is amazing, and the vibe is always positive. The bikes are all brand-​spanking new, and the staff takes great care to take care of them to ensure everything runs smoothly for the people who ride them.
I don’t know too much about surf boards, but even as a novice, I can tell they have great variety and great quality. They have every size and shape to accomodate anyone’s surfing ability/​preference.
But the main selling point? The SERVICE! Brent (the owner) is brilliant… and ridiculously good-​looking too!
Go there, bike somewhere, and enjoy a fabulous day on the beach :)
OH and PLUS they are dog-​friendly! two paws up from my baby– little fluffy Beans!

I was very happy with the complete experience with concept specialty board shop. The owner was very nice, he helped us adjust our seats to our perfection and even gave us a little more time for free… I’d rate this establishment a 5plus and will be back very soon!!!

It’s off the main street but still really easy to find.
We were searching for a place to rent cruisers along the coast and other places we had gone to wanted $ 60 per bike AND a $ 1000 deposit. Don’t think so.
The streets around there are 2 hr parking but they have a spot or 2 next to the building that the owner let us use.
Great prices, centrally located, and they let me ride a pink bike:-)

The Instructors are great here and you get a wetsuit too. When I was new, James pushed my board across the wave and when I stood up, the feeling was like surfing across glass! The heavens open up, you hear the surf music, (like from the videos) and it’s a surreal experience each time. I learn something every time I take a lesson here. They have a variety of boards to choose, the location is perfect, a short walk from the beach. Ive also had great lessons from Nick and Skylar. This place rocks!

It was starting to become frustrating when I was looking for a place to rent bikes. Lots of places popped up in my searches but their websites mentioned everything except bike rentals. Finally found Concept. I called and talked to Brent who was very accommodating and helpful. When we showed up late in the afternoon and I mentioned their 2 for 1 Unilocal deal he even gave us a little better discount because of the time of day. I didn’t ask he just offered. The bikes were almost brand new and we had a great time.
When we returned our bikes there were people who were renting surfboards. I was very impressed with the service they received choosing the right stick for their skill level and the current conditions.
The service, product and price were great and we love to support independent local businesses. Concept really delivered.

I was referred to this place for surf lessons and board/​wet suit rentals by two different friends in san diego. i’m so glad i took their advice! brent the owner is super fun and really nice. his wife and daughter were at the shop in addition to tons of kids who surf, skate, etc. making me feel that this place is super special to the locals in encinitas and a small business that’s growing and thriving.
my cousin and i stopped in for 1 lesson at first, and were paired up with steven and ryan, two awesome instructors. we had such a blast, both of us able to get up and ride tons of waves. we ended up scheduling another lesson the next morning and brent gave us a discount for multiple lessons plus free board rental the rest of the day and discounted rentals for the rest of our trip. what’s awesome about this shop is brent has a TON of high quality boards of all shapes and sizes, and he’s very open to letting his students try out any of them. if you don’t own a board, you should come here to figure out what suits you. he’s super knowledgeable.
i’d definitely recommend this place. it’s a quick 2 block walk to moonlight beach, and very accessible. they also have cruiser rentals available. love this shop!
