Dr. Yan started treating my mother for late stage lung cancer at Summit Hospital in Oakland. My mother has a form of non-​small cell lung cancer. Because of her advanced age, 80’s, the lung cancer created a complicated and delicate situation. With Dr. Yan’s expert assessment and treatment, she is now doing great, and most of the time she does not even need her oxygen tube! Dr. Yan is not only an expert practitioner, but precise and honest in his communications, which I really appreciate. I strongly recommend Dr. Yan for Asian people, particularly Chinese, with cultural sensitivities about cancer and possible end of life situations.

You couldn’t find a more caring and more knowledgable oncologist than Dr. Yan! My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in April and she was since under the care of Dr. Yan. Since I work in the field of personalized medicine, I can appreciate that Dr. Yan is extremely knowledgeable about the latest progresses in targeted therapy, genomic medicine, and immuno oncology. Dr. Yan is always very patient with my mom and asks detailed questions about her symptom and provide explanations. He provided tailored treatment regimen according to my mom’s health status. Under Dr. Yan’s chemo treatment, my mom has shown remarkable recovery from a very frail state in April to now reasonably healthy despite at age of 75. Dr. Yan always makes extra effort for my mom. He had recommended my mom to do next generation sequencing to better understand her genomic profile and try to find actionable mutations and he is now recommending us to seek 2^nd opinion and consider surgery option. We are indeed very lucky to have him as my mom’s oncologist!

My mother got diagnosed 4^th stage of lung cancer at the end of July this year. Her tumors grew twice after a week. We got many of suggestions not to have chemo from friends and relatives because the patient would be suffered. After meeting Dr. Yan, he clearly explained the reasons and benefits of doing chemo. After the treatment, her tumors were under controlled. All family members felt so lucky to have Dr. Yan as my mother’s oncology doctor. Dr. Yan is very patient, care, and responsible. He keeps me post his treatment plan and pushes the insure company to have the best medication and treatment for my mom. He is very trustful because he definitely knowledgeable. All the dose of medications were carefully evaluated based on each patient’s need and he keeps closed eye to each new medication’s reaction and side affects.
Before his vacation, he made sure to see his patients before he leaves.
Dr. Yan is Chinese. He speaks Mandarin and English very fluently. Therefore, we are able to communicate very clearly. I am proud to have Dr. Yan to represent part of the oncologists as Chinese. My mom always say that Dr. Yan is sent by God to treat her. We are very thankful. Thank you very much, Dr. Yan.
