Hunters Tavern

I keep forgetting about this place… maybe because it is off the beaten path in a residential area. I have been here several times and I kept telling myself to write a review and finally after my last visit I am doing so. This place is a well kept secret. and most in the neighborhood think it is just a bar. but they offer some of the best polish food around. The last time I was here I had the pork cutlet and it was done to perfection. The décor is rustic and minimalist. There is a bar and a dining area. In the past I had the strawberry pierogi and those were good also. Noticed a lot of fish entrees on the menu which I am going to come back and try. Definitely recommend this place. place opens at 4 p.m. … so dinner would be the meal to come and try here.

5 of us went Wednesday to the weekly Hunter’s JAZZ JAM. We all ordered something different for dinner-​food was great (especially Chicken Kiev/​ribs/​pork tenderloin) the restaurant was quaint & extremely clean. And actually the bar was quite beautiful. The musicians OVER delivered (as expected) — it was really a great evening! Whoever Awarded this restaurant 2015 BEST Restaurant in Elmwood Park did their homework-it’s charming. Damian could not have been nicer to us.
Notes: Cuisine: Polish/​European home cooking. Some outdoor seating. Area street parking with a small lot in back of restaurant. Venue seems ideal for small gatherings/​parties? I’ll have to look into that further. The weekly JAZZ Jam is every Wednesday 8P-​11P. Go to enjoy great musicians can get a bit loud for intimate conversation/​quiet dinner). Feel free to join in & play some jazz with the trio Wednesday evenings!

I am waiting 10 minute for service the food not acceptable soup not hot potatoes old heated meat OK salads old from refrigerator 4 points for 10 I am not recommend

The food here is amazing! We’ve been in here at least 3 times now. There are never many people here but I don’t care because the food is simply mouth watering. We sit a the bar — the bartender is super nice and attentive. We always get the app platter. It is really a meal with a little of everything. Delicious. Can’t wait to go back!

Very nice and clean little place. Just stopped in for a few beers and had the Polish Plate at the bar. The food was excellent! We really enjoyed it and will come back soon for dinner.
