Firestone Complete Auto Care

After my initial posting the store manager Mike and the regional manager reached out to me to get further information and to make the situation right.
I did go in for a oil change today. I was promptly greeted by Mike and my car was taken into the bay right away.
30 minutes later I was summoned and the oil change was complete and I had feedback and updates of the other items I wanted reviewed.

Horribly, mindbogglingly slow! Seriously if you have a few hours to spare by all means head on over, but if not, go somewhere else.
My check engine light was on, I figured I’d get it checked out, and take can of an oil change at the same time. Scheduled an 8:30am appointment the day before, and showed up 8:34am.
Oil change can take a bit of time right? 10 minutes, 15 minutes? Half hour maybe? Try over an hour and half!
They claim to have also found a nail in my tire around 9am. Figured sure let’s get it fixed, but now, frankly I’m skeptical… should have asked to see it. Still it was only 9am, shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to get it taken care of right? NOPE.
Had I not asked the guy at the front to check (for the 5^th time) what was happening I would probably still be there. When I did walk a bit further back to the window I saw the car was still up on the lift at 10am… finally, finally, I was able to leave around 10:15.
On the drive to work I smelled burned oil… need to check how much they spilled down there.
Definitely would not recommend going here… drop into any gas station with a bay, you’ll probably be out five times faster.

Some days you wake up and nothing exciting or particularly memorable happens. Those are the good days. Unfortunately, this has not been one of those days. On my way to school, I noticed the ‘low tire pressure’ light come on. Keep in mind, I live 3 miles away from school (2.9, according to Google). As I had a class, I was unable to immediately inspect the tire for damage. After driving home from school to assess the damage (3 miles), I found a single screw located in between the treads, and the PSI was 35 when it should have been 41. Mile check: I drove about 3.2 miles on the 1 year old 35 PSI tire.
Rather than taking it to my car guy, who lives further than 5 miles away, I checked around and settled on Firestone Complete Auto Care (haha) in Elmwood Park, 2.5 miles away. I inflated the tire back to 41 psi before leaving and arrived at Firestone around 11:30 am. If you are keeping track, I drove a total of 5.7 miles on a slightly deflated tire, very slowly and very carefully.
Whew! I arrived safe and sound. I first spoke to the manager, Mike, who seemed courteous enough. He assured me that it should be a simple fix and I would be out around noon. While my car was in the garage, I saw and heard a mechanic coming back and forth from the garage talking to «Peter» about the model of my car. This tipped me off that something unusual was occurring, and I should have interjected into their conversation — after all, I was sitting in the waiting area directly in front of them, yet not once did they keep me abreast of the situation.
Interlude of speculation: The same mechanic kept coming out to the floor, looking at their various tires. I have no way of knowing if this concerned my vehicle, but quite possibly they were making sure they had my exact model of tire in store before informing me that they doubly screwed (foreshadow) me over.
Finally, around 12:30 PM, «Peter» calls me up and informs me that there was not just one, but TWO screws. Yet it seemed like a simple fix, as both nails were located in the treads, not the sidewall. As the mechanic placed it back on the rim and began inflating the tire, it burst. Probable cause? Damage caused by driving on a deflated tire. Remember, I drove less than 6 miles on this slowly leaking 1 year old tire. But fret not, young woman! We happen to have the exact model for $ 175! I may be blonde, but little did they know that it is artificial.
By now, my mistrust of this operation had grown to the point where I would have gone back and put the spare on myself if I could. I let them speak with my boyfriend, the owner of the vehicle, who I am sure voiced my sentiments to «Peter», and they immediately began putting the spare on my car. When they showed me the tire that had burst, I again expressed my disbelief that driving a mere 5 miles on a low pressure tire could have caused such significant of damage that it stymied their expertise. «Peter» looked at me, blankly (because no logical person would have thought that this lie was believable), and told me that sometimes it happens. Thank you, «Peter», for that bout of enlightenment.
I got home and checked the pressure of the spare and found it at 60 PSI, causing me again to question the level of expertise the mechanics at Firestone Complete Auto Care (ha) possess. If they filled up the spare to 60 PSI, how much air did they have to pump into the damaged tire to cause it to burst? Only the gods know, and probably everyone in the shop.
Proceed with caution if you take your car to this company.

I am providing this update to my post of March 15, 2015. Firestone evidently does read these comments and acts upon them.
Shortly after I posted the account of my problems, I received an e-​mail from Firestone’s Regional Customer Service Department. I gave the Firestone representative the Firestone invoice #s and some further information. A few days later, a Customer Service representative called me and asked me for proof of my expenses to correct the problem. Within seven (7) days, Firestone sent me a check to cover the full amount of the costs that I incurred. The check arrived in the mail today.
Firestone does, indeed, care about good customer relations. The professionalism and speed with which Firestone handled this matter is EXTREMELY impressive.
I have to support a company that treats its clients as Firestone has treated me.

do not bother going here. it’s a waste of money and time. i have been to this firestone location multiple times before as i work across the street to have my oil changed and had no problems. yesterday i had a horrible experience. i usually drop off my car in the morning and it is usually completed by 1 pm or 2 pm in the afternoon for me to come pick up. yesterday i dropped off my car at 8:50 am for an oil change and to check the fluid levels in the car. i was never told what time the car would be completed and i didn’t ask because usually it’s only a few hours. at 3:30 pm i called to inquire about my car and was told there was still another car ahead of it. at 4:30 pm i called to let them know if the car was not started yet, to not start it as i would need to the car to leave to go home. at 4:30 pm i was told the car was started and would only be another 10 minutes. i finally got a phone call at 4:59 pm that my car was done. i can understand if the shop was busy but i know that an oil change and fluid check takes at MOST 30 minutes. in which case when i called at 4:30 my car was probably not started yet and i was lied to. my car was there all day from 8:50 am until 4:59 pm for a half an hour oil change. this is really unacceptable. as far as customer service goes i was never even apologized to about the wait for my car, or told sorry we had a lot of people today or something. there was just nothing. no explanation. it’s really just rude. if there was going to be an issue with how long it was going to take today then someone should have said something or asked when i need the car by. there was none of that. it almost just seems that there was an expectation on their part that they had all day for it.
also when i got in my car the radio station had been changed to a pop/​hip hop music station (i leave talk radio on because i listen to the traffic report as i travel a distance to get to work). in which case there was barely time to get my car completed before the end of the day so that i could leave to go home but someone found enough time to listen to my radio. also other coworkers have stopped taking their car to this site because of issues with the battery dying after the car being left there, probably also from the radio being listened to while the car was being worked on (the battery was dead when the car was picked up).
we have all stopped coming here and it’s super convenience for us, but in which case you have to really think about do you want to leave your car with people who are so unapologetic about treating you rudely just for an oil change. there are better places to go and give your money to.

Came here with a simple request, take off my summer tires/​rims and put on my winter tires/​rims. In the automotive repair world, it doesn’t get much easier or cheaper than this. I also mentioned that my lease was up soon so he knew that there was no chance I would bring this or any other car back to him for more in depth and expensive work. BMW covers all maintenance for the duration.
Despite the fact that I was giving them next to no money, I was treated exceptionally well. Staff was polite, friendly and courteous. I almost felt bad not having them do more for me. However, if I do ever need a repair or know anyone who does, I will recommend them enthusiastically. Great store, excellent staff.

Was not happy with my experience today. I was promised my car would be done in an hour and a half tops. 2 hours later they didn’t even have my tires on! I will not be going back there!

Good in pinch this Firestone location is fast, efficient and offers a comfortable waiting area. The tire pricing is good but they nickle and dime you with installation charges upwards of twenty five dollars + tax! So my tire priced at $ 82.49 wound up costing $ 115.25 out the door.

My husband and I came from out of town to look at purchasing a used car. Mike, the store manager, was able to joyfully get us in and inspect the car right away! After a 30minute detailed inspection, he made us aware of all possible concerns and gave us a very honest opinion. The service was great, reliable and through. I would definitely recommend this Firestone.

I would not recommend this place to anyone for any type of car care/​service.
I went for an oil change and they did not secure the undercarriage of my car which wound up half falling off and dragging on the pavement.
They were nice about it and ordered and replaced a new one for free but I have never gone to that place and left without having an issue
