Came here several times before. Whenever we come, we would usually buy footwear.

Worst customer service. employees are rude. Tried to return something from a different store and they wouldn’t except and told me I had to go back to the store I originally bought it from

I was in there on 4:11:15 with two other people we never felt so violated. Instead of a sales person coming to ask us if we needed help the creepy security guy comes acting like we were stealing first of all we are all law enforcement and he was just an arrogant fool. We let him have his moment then he decided to extend his creepyness by massaging my shoulder with some product. Worst shopping experience ever, will not be shopping there again.

My first experience with Mo’s was back in the 70’s when the Hempstead NY area held host to where I believe their first store originated from. The store was a short drive from my grandparents home, my parents took us there on occasion, but I don’t recall leaving with any items other than a Rickie Zisk mitt once. Fast forward to the sleeker, more modern facility just off Rockaway and Woodhaven. This Mo’s embodies the older locations positive attributes such as quality customer care, clean and neat aisles that have quality merchandise from floor to rafters. I’ve made quite a few purchases here over the years, generally running gear and the occasional fandom wear of jerseys and hats. I don’t recall much in the way of golf equipment or accessories which would be great, but outside of a few folks, demand is probably very low. All fairly priced, return policy if the situation arises is customer friendly. Gimme Mo’s over Sports Authority any day!

Back in the day, I dreaded coming to this Modell’s for so many reasons, many of which directly affected one another. Regardless of whether or not there was a sale, the crowds were always in full force(especially on weekends), which meant many items were out of stock and the tired staff would have their unenthusiastic ‘tudes on full blast. This is no longer the case, thank goodness. While the crowds are still here, it’s mainly during evenings and weekends. I’ve been able to hit up Modell’s during week day hours and it’s not nearly as bad. The store is less of a zoo, items are more available than not, and the experience is not nearly so chaotic. And of course, the customer service is vastly more pleasant. They know the dilly that Queens Mall will always have a healthy flow of people coming this way but they’ve beefed up the smiles and manners, which always translates to better customer service and happier people. None happier than me. While I can’t fault this location for lacking on the space, I can think of a better way the layout can help with crowd flow. Group sections(gender, etc.) and keep the accessories closer to the counter but away from the registers. The line hold up will be less of a cluster and folks will actually be able to snag stuff on the way to check out.

This store is OK. They have tons of clothing but finding a bat for my daughter was impossible. They had a very slim selection for girls with our choices limited to 2 different types that were priced under $ 200. Girls’ sneakers were limited as well. Plenty of women’s sneakers but not what we were looking for. Helmets for preschool girls were limited to 1 option. Sports Authority has a much better selection and more helpful employees. This store is OK if you don’t have a car and need something last minute.

This old Hermans sporting goods is an alright place. The store is not as big as other Modells but again an alright source. First floor is majority women and the sub-level is mens, shoes and sports accessories.

Some great discount sporting good finds. but the women’s selection was pretty limited. It was super hard to find anything in size small :(Ended up with two pairs of Addidas sweat pants at half price though. No small shorts though :(

Avoid this store, unless you have infinite patience and don’t mind ghetto(non)service. Modell’s was having a sale on some workout clothes, but the branch in Manhattan that I’d gone to first was out of stock. I was able to find the clothes I needed at this Elmhurst Branch, but I couldn’t actually purchase them because of the disorganization of the staff at the register. Someone in front of me was trying to buy some tennis shoes, but there was some confusion about how much the shoes should cost. The clerk kept paging overhead for the manager or another assistant to come to the front to check the price. No one came. Several people on line ahead of me became fed up and left. Rather than clearing the register and asking the person who was buying the shoes to wait and allow the rest of us to check out, the clerk made all of us wait. The manager finally appeared and asked someone else to do a price check. It then turned out that there was something wrong with the customer’s credit card, so my wait to check out kept getting longer and longer. I ultimately just left the store in disgust without buying anything. You have been warned.

«Damn! You buyin’ a lot of fitness equipment. Maybe I should start workin’ out.» said the employee standing next to the employee ringing me up. «How much is this?» the one says to the other as she struggled with a 12 lb. Body Bar. «$ 29.99,» I said. «We need the code. Where’s the book?» said the one to the other, again. A male employee, dragging something from the back, says, «Just call upstairs and ask for the code.» «But we could just get it from the book.» «Just call upstairs and ask. It’s easier.» The incident truly embodies all Modell’s stands for — standing around, no customer service, general cluelessness. This particular location is in the Queens Center mall, but not quite in the mall – you don’t have to go in it; just walk around the side. It’s 2 floors with sports apparel upstairs and everything else downstairs. There’s also an elevator which for anyone with a shopping cart, carriage, or chair, I recommend. I had a shopping cart on this particular visit and couldn’t get around upstairs, nor could the cart fit on the escalator due to its width. Prices are a bit better than competitors like the Sports Authority, but depending on what you’re looking for, you may find it cheaper at Target, Walmart, or Sears. The Body Bar I purchased was the cheapest around — less than Sports Authority and online. The Ab Lounge, which I didn’t buy, was $ 169, but can be found online for $ 99 plus shipping and handling. The store is a bit dark, but well, does anyone really care?
