Macy’s Vision Express

Quick, easy, painless, and the doctor was super friendly and knowledgeable. Whew! (Bonus points: they took my insurance.)

Worst Experience ever today. I have been a customer for the past three years to get my yearly glasses. I went today to pick out new glasses and the sales person was so rude I left and went to Cohen’s next door. I spend about $ 500 a year on glasses and will not be returning ever again. The sales person told be my drys office put a hold on my insurance benefits and that I need to come back on Tuesday to order glasses. I asked her to call my insurance to get the hold removed. She said they were closed on the weekend. Well I called VSP myself and the customer representative said she could give the sales person an authorization code to get my glasses. The sales person refused to even speak to my insurance. She would not help me get new glasses at all. She sat their with a sour face and said there is nothing she can do. I have never been spoken to so rudely in my life. The Insurance rep couldn’t understand why she just couldn’t take the code.
I left and went to Cohen’s who said I was the second person that day to come from Macys because of the sales person. I was able to get new glasses within 15 minutes and got the override with my insurance no problem.
Macy’s you just lost a valuable customer because of your rude sales person.

Never again. Never. The only good part of this saga, and yes it has been a saga, was the actual eye doctor. He was very nice and took his time during the exam, explained everything to me as well as my prescription. He gets them the one star. The rest of this experience-​a big fat zero!
The customer service kills this place. All those people in the front, including the managers and most of the sales people are rude, disengaged, and need to take a class in customer service. I had an appointment at ¹⁰⁄₂₅ at 3pm and didn’t see the doctor until 3:45pm. Usually at other optical places, the sales associates have spoken to me about what kinds of frames and styles I liked, and pulled frames and gave me feedback on them. You know, interacted with the customer. All I got was «you can go look at frames» and then gave me the key to open up the cases. The other customer there got all the attention and service and literally tried on 10 frames while I was there and didn’t even buy! After waiting I think the only reason they checked on my now worthless appointment time was because my husband started to get upset (which is never a good thing).
After the exam I finally complete my transaction with the glasses I chose myself. The assistant manager calculates my total and discounts based off my insurance (UFT Welfare Fund) and my total comes out to $ 260. I pay and leave and hope to move on with my life. But no. Once I’m home I take a look at my optical voucher and realize they’ve made a mistake and not given me all the discounts I’m entitled to. So I call back and try to explain this to them and was told I was wrong, even though I have all of this information in writing on the voucher and the UFT website. The lady argues with me and tells me she’s been doing this work for many, many years, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. I want my $ 130 difference back.
To remedy this I had to get the UFT Welfare Fund involved. After a 2 month cat and mouse game of the union calling Macys Vision, them acting like they didn’t have a clue and making an honest mistake (which I don’t believe, because they aren’t new to the UFT), they end of leaving me a voicemail that says they will «credit my account.» Doesn’t that sound like «your getting your money back»? Oh not at Macys Vision. After getting that voicemail, I waited 2 weeks and stalked my bank account to wait for the credit. NOTHING. I decided to call and I was told I was getting store credit. What the hell am I going to do with $ 130 of optical credit?! Back to the union we go. The union ends up calling them and threatening to kick them out of the Welfare Fund and finally they agree to give me back my money. Finally on 12/​8, I have to waste my time going over there and get one last run around. As soon as I walked in they knew who I was and I got the ultimate stank face and attitude. I asked for the manager and they tell me that he stepped out and will be back in 10 – 15 mins. Ok cool I’ll go hang out in the home appliance section. I return 15 mins later to be told that he left. Oh no boo, I’m not leaving without my money, Hubby is mad now (remember that’s a bad thing) and then they scramble to figure out how to do the return. I was finally credited my money and it was instantly back on my account within 1 hour. A very simple and quick resolution to a very long and drawn out issue.
Don’t waste your time on this place since they can’t seem to do things correctly and then have a major attitude when you hold them accountable for it. But my glasses are fly!

My wife and I came here for our eye exams and new glasses. The staff are very nice, patient and knowledgeable. They genuinely seem to care, which is very rare these days. We must have held up one of the staff for more than two hours, but she never got annoyed. She was very helpful and remained attentive, answering all our questions. In the end, we got a great deal on some nice branded frames and transitional lenses.
The location is very convenient, since it’s inside Macy’s. We will definitely keep going there for all our optical needs.

I’ve been here a few times with my boyfriend. It’s pretty convenient and close by, inside Macy’s in QC, and the prices are reasonable. (You can also shop in Macy’s if there’s a wait!)
The sales rep that helped us was very flamboyant and friendly. Even though we took forever to decide on a frame, he kept showing us different styles and was more than patient with us.
The guy who did the eye exams is a very nice guy. He answered all my questions and was very knowledgable. He seems to care about his patients, which is a characteristic that I look for in my doctors.
Overall, one of the better optical stores I’ve been to. Would definitely continue being a customer.

I’ve been coming to this place for my eye examination, contact lens refill, new glasses/​lens and sunglasses for many years now. Their customer service is great! I’m very indecisive when it comes to picking out frames so they would ask about my preferences and showed me the frames I would be interested in! Also the doctor at this store is very patient and careful with the exams too. So when I need new glasses or contact lens, then I’ll come back to this store!

I was shopping around Macy’s and noticed they had an optical, so I decided to take a look at their selections. They have a lot of varieties and different brands. I needed an exam anyways and they took my insurance so I decided to just get my exam and glasses here. The doctor was very nice and was very detailed during my examination. The staff was very attentive and gave me a lot of suggestions. They ensured my glasses would be ready within a week which made me very happy. I got my glasses in 4 days and is very pleased with them. Definitely will go back next time to get contacts maybe?

Beware of Groupon!
They are trying to charge on average $ 120 over retail for the frames and are overcharging for the lenses too! I am happy to lose my $ 19 that I paid for my Groupon because they are over charging by more than the $ 250 value of the Groupon! Total scam!

I bought a Groupon for this place thinking I can get a super deal on a pair of eyeglasses. It is simply a trap to lure a naïve consumer in.
The prices of the best eyeglasses from reputable companies are ridiculously high and yes, the prices are super high, EVEN AFTER the Groupon. They charge you a high price just for the lens only and a higher price for the frames. I was even tricked into taking an eye exam which I had no idea I had to pay $ 50 for.
The only glasses that are covered is their «pick of the litter» collection I may call it. They look awful and their quality is terrible. I bought glasses from there before and it kept falling off.
I came with my wife so she can help me select a pair of glasses and she noticed that ALL their eyeglasses were of poor quality and were fake. She could tell by looking at the name on the side of the glasses and she has bought eyeglasses for me before from her native Indonesia for much cheaper. She could tell the difference between a phony pair and an authentic one.
Moreover to top it off, they have terrible service. I dealt with a guy who talked to me in a rude tone and was not willing to work with us. When I bought glasses from there the year before, they were not coordinated and never contacted me when my glasses were ready.
Avoid this place like the plague. I feel like a fool flushing $ 29 of my hard earned money down the toilet! :(

Customer service is AWFULLY RUDE!!! I didn’t even get to go in and see the doctor, couldn’t stand the staff rudeness.

I’ve been a repeat customer of this Macy’s vision location for about 8 years. They’ve had quite a few staff changes through the years but I can honestly say that the level of customer service I receive here is quite superb. My most positive experience was most recently. I went in for an eye exam on 12÷31÷14 and my glasses were ready the next day. The staff and doctor were very attentive and friendly. They answered all my questions and the doctor even gave me a referral for an eye specialist to conduct a more intricate exam to address issues I’ve had with my eyes.
The only downside to going here is that if you are not into spending a little more for designer frames, their selection of insurance covered frames «free» frames are the pits.

I came back here to get my frames fixed after they’ve become crooked from a couple of years of wear. This happened before and everything went well, so I was expecting the same service. I got back my glasses and everything seemed perfect, until I took off my contacts to take a look.
The right side of my glasses seemed to be cracked internally and made my entire right vision blurred. I brought this up with the sales associate at the front desk, and she gave me this stuck up attitude and pretended like nothing was there. She began to take out her cloth and started rubbing it, and pointing out other scratches that I was responsible for. I was in immediate disbelief about her attitude and her customer service. She kept shoving the glass back at me and telling me that I should just buy a new pair of glasses.
I explained nicely and asked her to take a look at it again. The glass had to be shone into the light for the cracks to be more apparent. She finally saw it, and she started looking up my information on the computer. She noticed I got these glasses in 2011 and immediately started pitching a sale. I’ve worked in retail before, so I understood what she was doing, but if she had done a better job she would’ve realized I recently bought contacts here and that my insurance money was maxed out. We started arguing and I couldn’t understand her 100% so she made a phone call and went to the back of the store. She came out with two other workers who I presume were specialist.
They took the glasses and examined them. But they kept looking at the left side and thought I were talking about the small scratches. I don’t know how many times I had to explain that it was on the right side. I felt like it was a 3 on 1 battle and they had no organization whatsoever. They couldn’t identify the problem, and they kept giving me bullshit responses. It was ridiculous when the two «specialist» tried to bullshit me and explain that I was liable for the damage since I gave them my confidence to fix my frame. The Chinese worker brought up that there was an agreement I signed saying I was responsible for the damages. Let me tell you, I never signed anything. The woman with glasses then told me that «no matter where you go, you are responsible for any damages to the frame if the store damages it». At this point I was ready to leave, but the sales associate that sat there, kept pushing her mouth and telling me to buy a new pair of glasses. It was extremely annoying and unprofessional since she was not even part of the conversation. She kept clicking at her computer and making noises and giving me sass.
I told her I wasn’t interested in buying a new pair and asked what my options were. I didn’t feel like I should be responsible for the damages and told them I shouldn’t have to pay for the damages. They kept shouting optometry jargon at me and said that the AR was burned. Which made no sense because their were no external damages.
I asked how much it would cost to replace it and they gave me a ridiculous price. I finally talked them down to strip the AR for free, because they refused to replace the glass unless I paid for it.
I came back two days later to find that I was correct. The problem with the glass was that it was internally scratched, and that there was no issue with the AR. However, they thought it made sense to strip the AR off both glasses anyway. They kept trying to play it off, but it just made me even angrier. The woman kept throwing random prices at me for different things if I wanted certain things fixed. I told her forget it and that I wanted my frame and to go.
I am never coming back here again. The customer service was horrible and the staff was unprofessional. Without Dr. Chong present at the store, this place has become a disaster. Take your money somewhere else!

Awful. First, the front desk staff barely spoke English. I was charged $ 150 for a «custom» contact lens fitting, rather than just the regular $ 10 fitting (with insurance). I have had contacts for 20 years, so I’m not sure why this was necessary. I was upset about the price so decided I just wanted my prescription and did not want to buy glasses or contacts there. They refused to provide me with my prescription I had just paid $ 150 for. I eventually got it after several phone calls from me and my insurance company.
I had my insurance company call them to explain the charge for the «custom» fitting. My insurance representative spoke with them and told me she had never dealt with a similar situation, as the Macy’s employee was rude to her and could not explain the difference between the $ 150 and $ 10 fitting. They did not refund the charge. So, overall, it was a terrible experience. The doctor was very nice though.

Love. Compared to the rude and apathetic workers at the Manhattan location, everyone here was super friendly. The optometrist was very quick and efficient. The technician was the same. He helped me pick out a new pair of glasses after I told him what I was looking for. Then they had the glasses ready for me in an hour! It was awesome! I will go back.

Absolutely horrid. I explained to a sales associate I could not afford a 400 dollar pair of glasses. But I liked the frame, so I was entering the serial number on my phone. When the manager saw that, she SNATCHED it out of my hand and THREW my prescription on the desk and told me to leave!
What the hell! I’m going to send this over to BBB. I was absolutely outraged. When I went to confront them they simply ignored me. Ridiculous.
The glasses in question are these — online its 175 dollars. Im glad I waited until I got home.

I recently went here because I was able to get a livingsocial voucher. For $ 55 you get an eye exam and $ 225 to spend on glasses. What is not on the voucher is if your eye exam goes over a 2 you must pay a different amount. Also the glasses you can pick from are located in the back a total of may 50 pairs. I was lucky and was under a 2 and pick out some pastic frames, as i’m not picky. They had the glasses ready in 1 hour. The staff looked bored the whole time.

Nice selection of frames, and staff was helpful. The doctor who examined me was patient; I’m usually apprehensive of these exams. Would return for prescriptions in the future.
I recently returned to Vision Express in search of a pair of fashion sunglasses for the summer and was impressed of their selection! I finally decided on a pair of polarized Ray-​Bans that I am very happy with.

I — foolishly — went back for another pair of glasses. The last pair of glasses I purchased from here were no good so I decided I would try to exchange the frames for a different pair and simply pay for the lenses. I have never worn the frames so I didn’t think it’d be an issue.
They claimed there was a scratch on it (even though I have never touched them outside of the shop), but they agreed in the end to have them exchanged for a different pair if I was interested in purchasing new lenses. I needed a different prescription than the last time I was here because I indeed got LASIK done.
Now, since I’ve had LASIK done, my prescription barely existed. So, it barely should have cost me anything — especially since i wasn’t even paying for frames. I don’t remember what my prescription was, but I can confidently tell you it wasn’t anything at all. Most of my friends can’t even tell my glasses even have a prescription. I have it just for an added sharpness after my LASIK procedure. Anyway, they ran the prices at around $ 250 for just the lenses — no frames whatsoever. What bugged me even more was that they acted as if they were doing me a favor by agreeing to exchange the frames (that I purchased from the same place and that I’ve never touched) and that I should be appreciating what they’re doing for me.
I went somewhere else and they had it done for $ 90 on the same day. Yeah. Overpriced. They’re not terrible and they’re not unprofessional. They’re just overpriced and, sometimes, ridiculous with their policies. I will never be going back here again.

I have been frequenting Macy’s Vision Express for the past five years for my eye exams, contacts, and glasses. The employees at this establishment are very friendly. They take the time to explain the breakdown for the discounts provided for insurance. In addition, they are happy to recommend frames that flatter your particular set of features. I have also found that the optician is very personable and made me feel comfortable during the examination. Overall, I would recommend coming here even though its a bit pricey. With insurance, my eyeglasses came to a grand total of $ 660.
Edit: I went in for my glasses on Friday and they were ready today (Tuesday).

The employees were super nice. They assist me in finding a comfortable, affortable and great selections of frames.
The eye doctor was very gentil and made sure i have the appropiate lense and perscription. He also answered many of my questions and took the time to carefully examine my eyes.
I really enjoy their service and would definally come back: D !!!
