Subject is a 2004 Mini Cooper… on August 22 2015 i went on a website claiming it could rebuild my Mini coopers transmission
was told by a person named Ray on this site the cost would be 1800.00 plus cost of fluid, I told him the car had a CVT trans (automatic) and he said yes no problem. Tow truck sent to my house on August 25 2015. Upon arrival driver informed me car was going to the said shop in complaint, Gibraltar Transmissions in Queens NY and price was 1800.00 right on the contract driver wanted me to sign. Called number from website above and spoke to RAY again because he originally told me car was going to one of his garages in Edison NJ. He explained to me it had to go to the garage in Queens because thats where HIS BEST MECHANICS were to deal with my problem. Ok signed paper and car went on truck. Two days later got a call saying trans was shot and they would rebuild but price was now 4800.00 total. Told him no way i signed paper for 1800.00 and couldnt afford more. Ray proceeded to have a screaming match with me telling me tough ***** i signed contract and should have read fine print better. After a back and forth we decided on 4000.00 if i paid cash and he would wave the TAXES. Ok needed car so agreed. Got a call on Sept 3 2015 that car was finished come get it at 2pm on Sept 4 2015. Arrived at 2 pm on Sept 4 2015 to find a young guy sitting in car playing with his phone. Went into office and met Steve the shop manager, he told me they werent done programing it yet give him and hour. Came back at 3pm and he was just walking to car with paper work. Paid him in cash and left the shop. once on highway where i could go more than 40 mph discovered car was worse than when i dropped it off. immediately called shop, Steve told me to pull over some where and shut car off for a few minutes and it should reset itself, if not bring it back on Sept 8 because shop would be closed for the holiday. On Sept 8 2015 I had car towed back to Gibraltar by AAA. After a few days was told its a program/​computer problem that they had to order the program so they could reset. Again this went on for another week or two. Got another call finally in mid October car was ready again. Picked up car and same results as i got to highway so before taking back car AGAIN i took to a Certified BMW shop who put car on its computer. Car had NO warning, program issues what so ever in fact was told car had latest and greatest program and the trans was leaking fluid, Yes i have documentation and witnesses, so back car went to Gibraltar. The following week Steve offered me a rental car, so took ride to their rental car place in Queens. Upon arriving there was told by Enterprise agent i had to put up a credit card and be responsible for entire payment and that Gibraltar would have to refund me the money, all the time the girl was smiling and almost laughing openly. She finally told me she had same situation three months earlier and Gibrlatars owner refused to refund the client, another words BEWARE. So taking that advise i refused rental car. Finally after calls to shop every three days I was told now that they have found the problem that my cayalytic convert was no good and causing car not to shift correctly, COMICAL to say least. Steve said he would get back to me on a price to replace part. When he called me back he said and I quote «car is running great now but we had to do some funky ***** to the catalytic convert and price for new one was 1100.00. I said not gonna happen he said ok i can come take car its running right but i wouldnt be able to pass inspection now, WHAT, i NEVER gave them permission to touch the catalytic converter. Pick up car and of coarse car still not shifting correctly and check engine light was on which had never been on for as long as i owned the car. Called Mini Copper dealer and the BMW shop and both laughed when i told them Gibraltar is now claiming my problem is all being caused by the bad Catalytic converter. NO WAY was the response from both, that i was being scammed. Took car to independent repair shop to check catalytic converter, looks as if Gibraltar took it off and gutted it out and returned it to car, in process breaking the bracket and welding back on, also mechanic noticed the seals on the transmission looked old not new, which they should be if trans was taken apart and is suspicious to if it was even touched. I called Steve the manager at Gibraltar on Nov 24^th 2015 and told him car still wasn’t right. His response was «I told you its catalytic converter, have it replaced and then i will go from there». After the length of time and run around i have gotten from Gibraltar, and from the advice from experts on the car I can only conclude in the end this was a huge scam and the people at Gibraltar don’t have a clue which forces me to file this complaint with the BBB to seek a refund. If this fails I will file court papers.

My car have 2 weeks in the shop for a warranty of the transmission that they rebuild before and broke again. I have already 2 appointment to pickup the car and they even touch the car yet. I warm the people about this Gibraltar transmissions and Steve the person in charge just say is not my problem just rent a car means I don’t fu#%# care.

This place may probably have some of the nicest people working there, but beware it all seems to be a front. I took my car there for the transmission and the first thing I’m told is that the engine is misfiring yet it was running like a dream. They told me I needed to rebuild the transmission and get a tune up. I gave them the go ahead and that’s when everything went from bad to worse. When I picked up my car the radio no longer worked, they seem to not understand the way the wiring system on a hummer works. They finally got the radio to work but it was now direct had to shut off manually. When I left the car I was told to take my registration and personal papers with me, that everything else was fine. Well when the car was picked up with the trouble with the radio I didn’t notice that my memory cards for my radio were gone, my parking card with over 80 dollars gone. My sunglasses gone. When I got home that night I went to pick up my family stopped the car to get something from the store. When I tried to put the car in park it got stuck in reverse had to leave the car and walk home. They fixed that but till this day my engine runs terrible my radio is connected direct and my stuff remains missing. I use to use aamco and stopped, that was my big mistake. Don’t let it be your go to anyone else, not these people.

2002 Acura TL Type S
Fixed my transmission here and charged me $ 1950.
Picked up my car 2 days later and has some odd sound from the transmission, they did something called Presure test and show everythign is fine, a week later my engine light came on and I took it there, they said I need to replace some transmission sensors and NOT cover under 12 months warranty? Fine, i paid for it.$ 295. 2 years and 20k miles later my transmission is dead. called them again and they want me pay $ 1500 this time.
This is my 2^nd 2002 TL which not the first Honda/​Acura car, I know this car has weak transmission which I do NOT beat on my cars. especially in winter I always warm up my TL since I always take care of my cars.

They are such a rip off place.
charged me $ 3025 and never have my car fixed…
I towed my car to Gibraltar Transmission on the morning of January 27, 2014. I was told through the phone that the car can be fixed by paying $ 1800. Once the car arrived at Gibraltar Transmission, they discovered that the roman value body was broken and requested $ 500 more for it to be fixed. Totaling $ 2300 with a one year/12,000 miles warranty.
I picked up my car on January 30,2014. I noticed that the engine service light (P1759/​P1764) was on, indicating that there was still a problem in the car, I reported the problem to the shop. I was told that the engine service light (P1759/​P1764) being on is not related to the transmission that was being fixed. On the same day, I drove for approximately 50 miles (2 – 3 hours) and the car broke down on the highway.
On the next day, January 31, 2014, I called the tow truck but the towing was not available until the following day due to Chinese New Year many employees were not working.
The car was towed on February 1, 2014
I contacted Gibraltar Transmission 3 days after it was towed to check on the progress of the car and I was told that it would be fixed by the fourth day (February 2, 2014).
On February 5, 2014 I went to pick up my car but was told that it was still not fixed.
I contacted Gibraltar Transmission again 3 days after the first visit and was told again that it would be fixed by the fourth day (February 9, 2014). So as follow, I went to pickup my car on the fourth day but it was not fixed again.
The same situation happened again (February 13, 2014), only this time they requested another payment of $ 300 for towing and $ 425 for additional parts/​labors. Before I made this payment, I asked them if this time it would be fixed with guarantee. In return they said that they would guarantee that with this payment the car will be fixed. In addition, my car was nowhere to be seen every time I came until February 13, 2014, the day I was asked to make this payment.
I kept in contact with Gibraltar Transmission for the next 15 days. In between those 15 days, I called to check on the car every 3 days. Every time I called for confirmation they would say «not yet… maybe tonight or tomorrow it’ll be done»
On February 28, 2014, they finally confirmed that the car was fixed so I went to go pickup the car. I drove the car around the block and the car was not working properly so I drove it back to the shop. I called back 2 days later and spoke to the owner. The owner said he needed to charge me again. I questioned why I needed to pay since I already paid the first time which includes a one year warranty. The owner replied «Don’t talk to me on the phone like this. If you want to talk to me come down to the shop.»
On March 10, 2014, we went down to the shop and spoke with the manager. The manager said there was no charge but I told the manager that the owner said there was a charge. After hearing what I said, the manager now claimed that there is a charge.
Seeing how the manager handled the situation unprofessionally I couldn’t trust the shop anymore. I decided to take the car and I asked the manager for the car key. The manager refused to give the key so I called the police then the manager asked me to come back in fifteen minutes to get the car key. The manager started an argument regarding how the car’s problem was not their fault but mine’s. It was not possible for the car’s problem to be my fault since the car was never in my hand. Every single time I came to get the car, there was not once where the car worked properly (the engine service light was on every time). In the end the manager stated that he will no longer fix the car and to go ask the judge to fix the car for me. Considering that there was a one year warranty, it should be guaranteed that the car would be fixed disregarding who broke the car; either way Gibraltar Transmission should be responsible for fixing the car.
