History

Established in 1962.

In 1962 Elwood Richard opened his first health food store in Elmhurst, IL. He knew enough about the health food industry from owning the company Fearn Soya Foods, but he wanted to avoid distributors and sell direct to the public. The health food movement was still very young, struggling financially and definitely not recognized as a bona fide industry. Almost no one thought that opening a health food store would be a good business idea. Elwood named his first store «Health House» and managed to sell just over $ 25,000 in 1964. As sales climbed quickly, additional stores were opened starting in 1969. In 1972, Health House was forced to change its name due to a legal dispute about the name. Elwood and his two brothers, Lou and Bill, chose the name «Fruitful Yield» as a unique and positive description of the business. Elwood and his family remain the sole owners of Fruitful Yield and we are proud of our stores and influence on healthful living.

Magnificent alternative option with all natural selections. The service is wonderful. I am not exactly target demographic but walking in for an all natural gout relief as well as sleeping and blood pressure assistance, I expected that look down the proverbial nose as this beer-​swilling, near red-​neck walked in looking for more than just what the pharm companies shove down our gullet. However, I was absolutely wrong. The folks took the time to not only point in the right direction but explain the benefits of each of their recommendations. Great experience and great people!

I’ve been going here for protein and other vitamins for nearly a year. I regret not coming here for the past decade. The staff is friendly and it’s very reasonably priced. I recommend all elmhurstonians (others as well) stop in for some natural l, well balanced, reasonably priced products.

I didn’t even know there was a location here until we stumbled upon it when we were walking around visiting other shops! I would compare Fruitful Yield to a much smaller Whole Foods, and a little cheaper. If you’re looking for some organic/​gluten free/​homeopathic goods, this is the place to go. The service is always friendly and helpful as well. This location is a little bigger than the one in Schaumburg — they have a whole grocery section that is set apart from the home/​body goods. Very nice place, I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something different that you can’t find at other places.

Nice little store with very helpful employees. They’re very knowledgeable about the items they sell and offer advice when needed. Kind of expensive, but these kinds of supplements, organic items, and homeopathic meds are always quite pricey. They have a website if you want to see the types of products they sell. This store is smaller with less merchandise than some of their other locations, so you might want to call first if you’re looking for a particular item.

This store is convenient cause it’s a corner store and there’s street parking around it. I think of it as a mini version of wholefoods. Some items are priced the same while others are cheaper.
The selections are pretty comparable, they offer a free customer rewards card. If you spend a certain amount then you get a $ 5.00 off your next purchase. Last time I got $ 5.00 off card in the mail. They also accept manufacture coupons here at well.
If you get lucky on-​line, there are times that there’s a printable coupon to use at Fruitful Yield… maybe not in this locations but you can ask if they would accept it. They usually would… they should if they want your business!
They have a few fresh food items, mini frozen section, and refrigerated items as well. The inside of the store needs a face lift though… it’s kind of old looking.
I would go back if I don’t want to take a hike up to Wholefoods.

I have been confused about this store for years… Is it a grocery store? Vitamin store? And without a parking lot (street parking only), quite frankly I have just been too lazy to go in there and figure it out. I am on a smoothie craze and my smoothie making skills are getting pretty advanced! Needed fresh or frozen acai berries and I was also too lazy to drive all the way back to Whole Foods in Wheaton! Sooo… it was time to check out my local health food store!
Fruitful Yield is a big winner!!! They had acai powder or frozen aronia berries (also a superfood and acai berry substitute). Some of the other goodies include wheat grass juice, organic frozen fruit, vegan cheese and lots of other health food brands like Amy’s, Udi, etc. The store is split into a vitamin/​supplement section. This part also has tons of different whey flavored proteins (blueberry, bourbon vanilla, etc)! The other half of the store is a grocery section with a small freezer/​fridge section and lots of boxed organic and natural products (lentils, rice, quinoa, cereal, oats, oat bran, granola bar type things, CHOCOLATE, licorice candy, etc).
The employees are very knowledgeable about the products they carry and can recommend options to you based on what you are looking for.
Minus one star for being kind of a dimly lit/​out-​dated little store and having some freezer burned bread products in the frozen section. And, if you need fresh produce… this is NOT your go to store!

I had no idea this store existed until I was looking online for a place to buy organic coconut oil in the area. What a nice find! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I spent almost an hour in there looking at all of the products (mostly because I’m a health newbie and I was reading up on ½ of the nutritional labels in the store). They have a lot to offer in that tiny store: vitamins, supplements, natural oils, organic fruits and veggies, frozen goods, healthy groceries, etc. They even have an entire shelf of gluten-​free products.
I also think that they have fairly decent prices. For example, I saw a bottle of Heritage Rosewater there that I had previously bought on Amazon for double the price. However, I’m not sure how their groceries compare to places like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.
Either way, I know that this is the first place I will turn to for all of my natural/​homeopathic remedies and organic/​healthy food needs.

Fruitful Yield occupies a favorite niche in our weekly grocery trips — a lot of great, innovative food you won’t find in any other grocery store (and believe me, we’ve looked…). We especially enjoy the wide selection of gluten-​free products — from English muffins to quinoa pasta (and even Oreo look-​a-​likes).
Very friendly staff is eager to help you navigate the many vitamins, supplements, and homeopathic treatments.
It is really a pleasant change to go to a store where you don’t have to spend most of your time reading labels to see what is bad for you…

Although I usually think of this store as one of the go-​to places when looking for some interesting herb or vitamin, I never usually venture into the other side of the small store. So I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of healthy organic grocery items that they carry here! They carry buffalo meat, which is much leaner than cow; and they carry Ezekiel bread as well as many organic produce items.
One must-​have at this store — they carry a wonderful herb mixture that is some kind of blend of echinacea, zinc, black tea root (?), Vitamin C, and a couple of other items; billed as an Anti-​oxidant supplement. All I know is that one year I had a long lasting cold, and nothing seemed to help it. I went here and someone advised me to take this; perhaps it was all psychosomatic, but my cold went away the next day. And every year I stock up on these and take them regularly at the first sign of a cold, and it really seems to lessen the effect or stop the cold completely. Perhaps it’s mind over matter, but if it works, who cares?
