Fifi’s Tailor & Custom Design

Found this boutique because I was hunting down wedding dress designer, Sophia Tolli. Fifi had a trunk show for Sophia’s dresses here earlier this year in February and when I Unilocaled their business, I was pleasantly pleased to see many good reviews so it was a no-​brainer that I was going to make my way out to Elmhurst to check it out.
It was my first time shopping for a wedding dress for myself so it was a pretty exciting time for me. Before walking into Fifi’s shop, I had «the» perfect dress in mind and knew that Sophia Tolli was the only designer that would satisfy my taste — I had no idea how much it costs but knew I just wanted to try it on. I walked in there and explained what I wanted and Fifi pulled a dress for me right away and demanded that I try it on. It was a very beautiful dress but I pointed out some small details that I wished were there and Fifi told one her girls to pull the (whatever) model and had me change into it next. Surprisingly, she nearly nailed it. It didn’t look like the dress I originally thought I wanted very much but it was gorgeous! I couldn’t believe how great it looked and the details were just amazing. But again, as picky as I was, I found one more detail about the dress that I wish it had. I swear, that third dress that Fifi made me try on, it was «theeeeee» one! After hearing the price for the dress, I was again, very pleased to hear how affordable it was. It was a good amount under my budget so I immediately purchased it and had Fifi order it in my size.
I’ve heard so many horror stories from other brides on how it takes almost a year for their dress to come in from the time they order it so I was a little nervous placing my order. No lie, it took a total of 6 weeks for my dress to come in — 6! Fifi did explain to me that it was a combination of me placing my order right around the same time she sends in her other orders for dresses and because I bought from her boutique instead of a chain like HOB or David’s Bridal where smaller orders get filled much faster than bigger orders at chains.
Since my first visit to Fifi’s shop, I was greeted and treated very well. Prices for dress were much more fair than it looks — which is a plus. Fifi is such a sweetheart and she is an extremely talented seamstress. Some might think her prices for alterations may be high but just like ever other business owner, they need to make $$$ somehow! My dress fit like glove and I was very pleased with it. I received SO many compliments on my dress on the wedding day and felt like a million bucks.
Brides, go here if you want one less thing to stress about for your wedding day and be upfront about your budget if you have one.

Fifi is great! She’s very nice and gets the work done well and quickly. I had my wedding dress altered here and Fifi made it fit perfectly for the big day.
She isn’t up front about her pricing before she begins alternations though, which is a little risky, especially concerning a wedding dress. I felt like the pricing was a bit higher than necessary.
It also happened that my dress hem was not perfectly straight all the way around, which I didn’t notice until the morning if my wedding. Due to the way the dress fell though, this really didn’t matter much in my situation.

Fifi is wonderful to work with— she is kind and energetic and a wonderful tailor! The work she did on my dress to get it ready for my wedding was absolutely beautiful! I can’t wait to wear it on Friday at my wedding. Fifi and her team can do it all!

I’ve gone to Fifi multiple times to get pants hemmed and I’ve always been pleased. She’s always amicable and up for conversation when I come in. The work is done well and efficiently and will continue to be my go to tailor.

I was referred by Hugo boss in Oakbrook to fifi. I took at least 18 items to get tailored and she is very good and I was pleased with her work. I purchased 2 more items with Hugo Boss and Hugo Boss told me they are referring new Taylor cause of some issues there customers where having with her work well I was happy and took my 2 new items too her. So when I picked them up I didn’t try on my shirts since ive never had a issue with her work. When I finally tried the shirts on 2 weeks later I noticed the shirts sleeves one was longer then other and the shirts where still too big on me. I returned to her and her assistant said she would fix I left my phone number got a ticket and returned a week later. when I returned fifi said she cant fix the shirts cause she said she didn’t Taylor them in the first place. I had by this time lost my receipt and she said she dosent keep records. I paid 400 dollars for these 2 items and she charged me 70 dollars to Taylor she insisted she didnt do the tailoring and I was lying. I just left and will cause she insisted she didnt Taylor the items, I will. never refer business to her. I returned to hugo boss and told them the issue and they informed me they had several issues similar too mine.

Fifi is a very talented seamstress and has done an excellent job on altering my dresses. I brought in a bridesmaids dress as well as another dress for a wedding and I was very impressed with her work. If you need alterations please do not hesitate to go to Fifi! You will be very pleased with your alterations and you will be ready for your wedding/​special occasion without any worry :)

If you can’t manage to keep a straight hem line then what can you really expect?

Fifi is amazing. She is very creative & can make everything more beautiful. I have used her to alter a bridesmaid dress & then couldn’t think of using anyone else for my own wedding dress. I loved how accommodating she was to my crazy schedule. She multiple times stayed late to make sure my dress was perfect. Dress was customized to exactly what I wanted (even though David’s Bridal told me it couldn’t be done). Dress was done very timely as well. She really makes you feel like you are part of her family. I would highly recommend Fifi. I wouldn’t use anyone else.

I came to Fifi through the recommendation of Bella Bianca Bridal in Oakbrook, IL. Some of the bridesmaids dresses came in really close to the wedding date (a week out!)and we were having a very hard time finding someone who could take us all. Fifi calmed us all down and assured us that everything will work out and that we’d have the dresses in time. Not only were the dresses perfect AND done within a manner of 3 days, we all found ourselves wanting to hang out with Fifi and not wanting to leave the shop! She is extremely pleasant, hospitable and very good at what she does. I not only gained a tailor that I will keep coming back too and will recommend to anyone, I’ve gained a friend as well. You will not be disappointed in Fifi’s work as she will do whatever is takes for her clients. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Three years ago I lost some weight and went down about 1 – 2 dress sizes and I needed my clothes tailored. My favorite tailor in Elmhurst had gotten ill and closed his business and I searched for a tailor in the 10 – 15 mile area. I tried multiple places but my silk shirts, jackets, coats looked bulky not well done until I found Fifi.
I started with simple stuff and progressed to getting some of my previously tailored clothes to be reworked. She was great!
We have now gone through most of my closet and my clothes fit again. Fifi has gotten to know my closet and I am certain she has touched at least 40 pieces that I would not trust anyone but her to touch. Her attention to detail is amazing since she specializes in wedding dresses. She is great and would be worth driving to from the city.

I was so pleased with the quality of the work that was done on my clothes. Getting things to fit my petite frame isn’t always easy, but I couldn’t be happier with the results. Fifi and another tailor (I can’t remember her name!) were very friendly and made this a great experience. I will be going back again with my bridesmaid dress this summer!

My first time trying on wedding gowns was at Fifi’s during her recent Pronovias trunk show. Fifi showed me such kindness, care, and gracious hospitality in her shop. Both she and her assistant Katie were incredibly helpful and sweet! They made my first bridal appointment such a wonderful and memorable experience.
Fifi has a beautiful selection of gowns in reasonable price range (I was looking $ 1,500−2,500). I really appreciated all of the time that Fifi and Katie spent with me (I was the only appointment at that time). I am the type of person who needs time to make a decision, and I did not feel any pressure to buy the dress that day. I really appreciated that!
Thank you, Fifi, for a wonderful experience that will have a special part in my memories of my engagement. I hope to be back to purchase my gown from you!

Let me start off by saying fifi is a great seamstress. She took my dress that was 5 sizes too big and made it to my size. And that’s about all that she did. For that I give her due credit. However, she is by far the worst when it comes to customer satisfaction. She yaps too much and makes excuses for why each thing costs this much and how many hours she spends on the dress blah blah blah… so does every other seamstress, get over it. SHE IS OVERPRICED without a doubt. It was my own fault for going with her, red flags went up when she charged me full price upfront! I mean who does that? How am I supposed to know it will turn out the way I want? Which is exactly what happened. I had no choice so I fell into her trap. I had 3 – 4 fittings and I kept telling her I’m not completely happy and asked if she can fit it more to my liking. Her words «it is impossible». Her bustle was horrible it looked so scrunched up like she just put pins all over it. I had to repeatedly ask her to redo it. My gut told me to take my dress elsewhere for a second opinion and I did just that. MARY CATOMY IS YOUR ANSWER LADIES!!! Not only did she make the «impossible» happen, she gave me several options for my bustle and made me feel like a bride! I wish I knew about her earlier, but she is so knowledgeable and just way way waaaay more personable. Oh and she collected her fees AFTER I was satisfied with my dress like a true seamstress. So please save yourself the frustration and headache and think twice before you go to fifi.

Fifi is the master, on valentines day she fixed my zipper as well as tailored a shirt for me. Awesome service. She is a fair reasonable person to to business with. I strongly recommend that everyone brings their tailor needs to her attention.

My friend and I went to her to get bridesmaid’s dresses tailored and Fifi did excellent work. Not to mention the fact that she is extremely personable, friendly and professional.

FiFi is amazing! Four weeks before one of my best friends weddings I tried on my bridesmaid dress to see it didn’t fit around the bust. I started to panic and someone recommended I contact FiFi. Upon walking into her shop, she immediately made me feel like we were old friends and assured me that she would be able to fix my dress for me. All along the way she listened to what I wanted and explained everything she was doing to me. FiFi is very big on quality and on customer satisfaction and it shows through in everything she does. To help my dress fit, FiFi changed the back of the dress into a corset lace up dress. Not only did it look beautiful, but her work is of such great quality that it looked like the dress was made that way. FiFi is the only one I will take my clothes to in the future. I highly recommend her to anyone and everyone!

I came to Fifi’s last summer with a suit I bought online that needed tailoring. I needed it for a wedding that was less than a week away. Fifi was able to work her wonderful magic with what little time I gave her.
My wife said it was the best suit she’s ever seen me in. I also received a lot of compliments from people at the wedding. She became a believer in what a good tailor can do.
Right now Fifi is working on another suit I brought her that is going to need major overhaul.
Trust in Fifi, she’s genuinely a nice person! You won’t be disappointed.

FIFI = amazing.
Everything you could ask for: warm greeting, excellent customer service, attention to every detail, expertise and knowledge, experience, and personality.
You will feel like a friend after just one visit. (Almost literally: she added me on Facebook right away, haha!)
Her price was a little more than I expected, but that’s only because of my inexperience with getting things tailored, and then also the fact that my dress needed more work than I anticipated. Trust me, the price is most definitely worth what you are getting.
My wedding dress was absolutely beautiful in every way. I loved it on the rack, even when it was way too big for me, but when I put it on after Fifi was done with it, I fell in love all over again. My husband was crying with his head down as I was walking down the aisle because he could barely look at me. I like to think Fifi had a part in that! ;)
I would recommend anyone to Fifi’s Tailor and Custom Design. You won’t be disappointed, that is a promise.

(Note: I only interacted with Fifi for a consultation, and did not end up having her tailor my dress. I figured my brief customer service experience might still be helpful.)
Fifi is clearly very skilled, seeing as she can sew you a whole wedding dress from scratch. However, if you have minor alteration needs, you may find that other places charge less and have more pleasant service.
I called for a quote on hemming a 2-​layer chiffon dress from floor to knee-​length. Fifi quoted $ 15 – 55, saying she was inexpensive. Cool. When I drove over and had her look at the dress (including two ribbon things that also needed to be shortened slightly), she said it’d be $ 75. Woah. $ 75 to shorten a $ 99 dress.
It’s understandable that the price would be different — I was just shocked that it was basically double the price range she conveyed over the phone. But that’s not the part that really upset me. While on the phone, she freaked out when I said I needed it done within 2 weeks, saying that it was very late but that she could do it. But then in person, she berated me several times about being «very late,» repeatedly and agitatedly questioning *why* I was so late, exclaiming that other places would charge rush fees.
And when I balked at the $ 75 price, she immediately asked what I did for a living. She asked where I lived and other unnecessary questions. It seemed really unprofessional and made me feel like crap.
As it turns out, other tailors I later visited did not bat an eye at my (at that point) one-​week timeframe, and their fees for the same job were anywhere from $ 32 – 60.
So yeah, this was definitely an «Eek!» experience, but I’ll go with 2 stars since I didn’t use her services.
