Cutter’s Landscaping

Cutters Landscaping has done many projects for me over the years. Our latest project was sprucing up our front yard. Austin (the owner) was great to work with on this project because he came with great ideas and stayed within my budget.
Austin added a few new trees and rows of boxwoods accentuate our front porch. He also added brick pavers on either side of our walkway leading to the front of the house which adds a nice, sophisticated look. He also put in a new lighting system to highlight all of the new landscaping.
While there might be many other landscapers to choose from, Cutters Landscaping has been a supplier, which is why I continue to use them and refer them to my friends!

Cutter’s re-​landscaped our entire back yard last spring putting in a huge patio with several types of pavers (some of which is permeable), an island and a beautiful fireplace. They also landscaped the remainder of the yard. Austin designed the entire project with our input. We feel like we put an addition on to our house. The workmanship was excellent on both the patio and the landscaping. We love the plant material he chose: multi-​season interest and low maintenance; the lawn he put in looks beautiful. Austin was here on the job supervising every aspect of the project; we would definitely hire Cutter’s again and recommend them to friends.

We had seen the work done by Cutter’s on other homes in Elmhurst and after meeting with Austin, knew that we made the right choice. Several previous attempts to correct our grade and sod problems did not work. Cutters came in earlier this year and did the right things to get our lawn’s problems and appearance corrected permanently. The compliments on our landscaping have been non-​stop. Austin uses high quality materials and completely stands behind his work. Highly recommended.

We used Cutter’s for our paver patio. Austin was great to work with. He came out, listened to what we wanted. Actually talked me out of a more expensive stone pavers because of problems which could occur. He designed up a great looking patio, shrubs, and large play area for my kids. They are upfront, tell you all costs involved, permits, etc. Some other guys gave me lower quotes, then tried to spring more costs right before starting the job. Ive called Austin out multiple times for other jobs. I will be using him to design my front yard landscaping this spring. I have even called on him for referrals for other types of projects. The crew at Cutters are very professional and did a great job.

My husband and I have known Austin, the owner of Cutters Landscaping for about 7 years now. In that time, he has landscaped our entire front and back yard, a piece at a time. Once he understood my affinity for Asian style landscaping, he outdid himself. Austin created a dry creek of river stone which helped our backyard drainage, then designed a zen garden with a small fountain by our porch. The latest project was a beautiful stone walkway from the front of the house around to the back, encircling the deck. Much admired by all, I must say. This group of people provides exactly what they promise, on time, and are so easy to work with. I have recommended them to anyone who would listen and will continue to do so!

We worked with Cutters Landscaping for a landscaping project for the front of our home. Initially we thought we would just have them «clean up» our landscaping — however, once we met with Austin he cast a vision that got us very excited about the potential curb appeal of our home. Once seeing this we quickly wanted to move forward with the project (the CAD mapping feature that Cutters uses is great and lets you get a feel for what your project will look like before it’s actually completed). Cutters was prompt with the project timing delivered during the quote process and delivered a great quality product once completed. We LOVE the curb appeal our house has now and feel that the value we paid was more than recovered by the increased value we’d receive from any potential home buyer. We definitely will have them service the landscaping each spring and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for landscaping.

We built a new construction house in Elmhurst and Cutters did our grade, sod, landscaping, and blue stone installation on the front steps and porch. The work was excellent. My builder noted it was some of the best blue stone work he’s ever seen. We passed grade /​drainage inspections with no issue and received many compliments on how well our yard looked. We’ve since referred Cutters to multiple friends /​family, all of which have had really good experiences. I also had a bush die about 9 months after moving in and came home one day to find it replaced (I didn’t even need to ask). We had a great experience with Cutters and would definitely use again in the future.

I have worked with Cutters for years and highly recommend them. Austin, the owner, is very creative and has always offered creative ideas and unique materials. I own a design firm and I always recommend Cutters to my clients as I know they will get an exterior design that enhances the architecture of their home. The crew is friendly, quick and respectful… a great company!

Negative stars if I could give them. Hired cutters to landscape — and by landscape we are just talking a few bushes and sod and grass– our new construction yard. Cutters was responsible for the final grade before the sod was laid. At first they seemed very honest and said they stood by their work so I even went out of my way to ensure they were paid timely and the builder paid them timely. Boy was I taught a lesson in the end because once paid… They screwed us with what was done. Our front yard and side yard had a major drainage issue and the front couldn’t even pass county inspection. Cutters refused to fix the issue and said it wasn’t their problem. They did it so how wasn’t it their problem!!! I had so much water in my front yard ducks started to come over to it. Cutters did not fix either spot and were completely rude about the situation. I overlooked the quality of the sod and seed that I found out was used (which was poor based on multiple other landscaper comments) but expected an issue like standing water would have been fixed but they didn’t fix it. We paid a different landscaper to come and fix it correctly. Learn from our mistakes and hire someone else if you want it done with high quality and issues to be addressed timely or at all in our case…

As I explained what I needed done, no notes were taken. The owner of Cutters told me he would «remember» what needed to be done. Didn’t happen. The mulch was spread so thin, the plastic landscape fabric under it was visible after a week. Evergreens I had requested be pruned were not touched. Ground cover I asked to be left alone was all pulled out. I hired Cutters because I had seen their «good» work. Unfortunately, the work I received was poorly done. My yard is not grand. It’s just a simple, casual space I wanted to «clean up». Apparently it wasn’t important enough, or a big enough ($$$) job for them to do their best. $ 1,784 down the drain.
