So, after the God knows how many Hispanic stores I’ve visited in the x amount of years I’ve been in the states(more than 10) this is the first place I’ve seen a para de res in a butcher shop. I will call it a meat market with Colombian products and it’s awesome. Trust me.

This place is always busy but I come here every time I need a Colombian product. Even as busy as they are every time I have a question they take the time to answer me and help me find what I’m looking for.

My review is solely on the butcher shop. I have turned to butcher shops recently in the hopes of finding fresher meat, having bought bad chicken and ground beef from two supermarkets in the area in the past month. I stopped by Casa Rivera after work to buy some ground beef, got home ten minutes later and decide to prepare the meat in order to cook it, turns out the meat smells funky. I knew instantly it was bad. I grab the plastic wrap where the meat was stored and walked back to the store. I approach the young lady behind the counter who claims I needed to bring the meat in, then rudely tells me I have to speak to the manager because she can’t help me. The butcher/manager again tells me there can be no refund if there is no meat. By this time I am getting pretty upset, this is the only place that has given me a hard time, the other supermarkets give me my money back immediately. I ask him to bring me a sample of his ground beef. He hands it to me, «you see it smells fine» he says in Spanish. I smell the meat, sure it is fresher but I can smell that it is going bad. «Are you kidding me, you don’t smell that» with a smirk on his face he says«that meat is good». I tell him I am going to house some sort of complain, he seems unfazed. This could all have been resolved if I had gotten my money back immediately, perhaps I would have returned to this place. But to have the audacity to smell the meat in front of me, and tell me its not going bad, that made me disgusted with the staff and the entire place. Needless to say I won’t be retuning to this place again. They were completely rude and did not give a crap about my complain. WORST of all, they are selling meat they know is bad and can potentially get people sick.

I have visited Casa Rivera Restaurant/Meat Market/Grocery before. Yes, it’s all that and more. All the way in the back is the restaurant no frills kind of joint, but the food is delish specially the soups. I had a small rib soup that was not small it was rather a large soup by other restaurants in the area standards. it was only 5 bucks not bad for the home taste and size. The young man behind the counter is so polite and always coming around to clean and pick up after the customers. If you have«poco dinero», this is the place to have a hearty meal.
