Service was prompt and friendly, the price was affordable for an all you can eat lunch, selection of rolls was vast, and restaurant was clean and had a great atmosphere. I would come back

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved this restaurant especially for their half price days. We tried to go there a few weeks ago and the doors were locked with a sign saying«The locks have been changed and no one is allowed in.» The restaurant signs inside were ripped down as well. Disappointed that this place closed.

Awful food from the dinner menu. Really bad hot tea. Bland, flavorless sushi. Even the booth was uncomfortable. Ick.

Tokyo is the place I wish I had gone to instead of Ginza. Milwaukee gets a reprieve! Sweet potato rolls and shrimp shumai just like home. GREAT, attentive service as well. A very reasonable lunch menu also. Going home tomorrow, but with a better opinion of ethnic eats out here.

Sometimes it’s not so easy writing a review for take-out. I didn’t even really see the inside of the place or get a true feel for what they’re like. They have some solid lunch specials, although I need to stop getting sucked in to specials. The more miso and salad I have, the more they just become a filler and distraction from the meal. But, if you’re a lunch special type person, check it out! The spicy California was my favorite, though it could have used a little more kick; and the Alaska and shrimp tempura were also both good. So from the glimpse I’ve had of Tokyo from one take-out order, it was pretty good, but I don’t know that there’s anything too special going on here to make a trip just to go here worth it.(Oh, and the hours? They are kind of bizarre.)

Came here for dinner. Very competitive pricing compared to the other local sushi places. Good food, great presentation. I think people need to give this place a chance.

Seems they have a new name, but I’m going to assume, for the sake of arguement, that it’s exactly the same place. It’s not the mecca of sushi, but I’ve always had a reasonably good time here. Between the special offering of discounts on Monday and Tuesday, the timely service and decently good quality of the sushi and rolls, we used to make it a point to go here at least once a month.(Prior to my deployment last year) Haven’t tried the hibachi, but I’ve heard good things about it, and I’m sure I’ll try it some time in the future. It appears that they’ve been going downhill a bit with their recent reviews, so I’m curious to find out if the name change means new ownership and whether they’re a part of the problem or will be fixing it. As a sidenote, they have a really good wine store(Wisconsin Wine Cellar) conveniently located right next door. We’ve done sushi to go a couple times and shopped for the night’s wine while we waited.

A group of 8 of us attending Tokyo for Hibachi lunch. Tokyo is similar to other Hibachi style restaurants; however, the presentation was very blah. Our hibachi chef didn’t necessarily entertain and I’m not sure wether that was because there were too many of us and too many conversations going on? Food was ok. I prefer the flavor of the food at another local Hibachi grill in Waukesha. Not sure I’d return.

I met a friend here for lunch because she had a Groupon she needed to use. The Brookfield area is full of really great sushi places, the bar is set really high. Tokyo just didn’t do it for me. My spicy salmon roll wasn’t spicy by any definition of the word; the unagi in one of my rolls was so smoky, it almost tasted burned. And the service was painfully slow, my water glass sat empty almost the entire meal. In the future, I’ll just go to Fujiyama.

I have to agree with some of the recent reviews of Takara. This restaurant has gone downhill. I have eaten at this restaurant at least 20 times. Recently, I believe the management has changed and with it the quality of the food. My boyfriend bought 2 groupons from them, and it was so frustrating because there were literally so many exclusions to the groupon. Also, the past couple of times we have eaten there, the food has just not been good. The sushi does not taste the same anymore. I think the spicy tuna roll is still decent but the other sushi is seriously lacking. This past week, I ordered a lobster tail roll and received the most measly, small, and bland roll I have tasted in a long time. In general, the quality of the food has really declined. After my last visit, I have decided that I will not go to Takara anymore.

The food was good the first time, but no so good the second time. We ordered vegetarian egg rolls and got ones with pork. When we asked for the dish to be removed from the order the maitre d’ argued a bit and insisted on talking to the chef before agreeing to remove it. Also, the portions seem small for the price(though that is not unusual for Japanese restaurants.

I had a bad experience here today that will make me never return. I tried to use a groupon and was told by the manager that it was not valid because they wrote extra exclusions on a piece of paper and taped it to the front door of the restaurant. I didn’t see this sheet of paper on the door but these«exclusions» were not written on my groupon. When the manager talked to my group she was very mean and argumentative. She kept asserting how I was wrong(I don’t know how). I wouldn’t have cared as much about not getting to use the groupon if the manager wasn’t such a bitch about it. So, even though I have eaten here over a dozen times and the food and service(from the waitresses) are okay, this experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Hello Kyoto, sayonara Takara!

Goodbye Takara — you will never see me again. You are my first ONE star review and hopefully my last. I’ve been to Takara at least 15 times in the past. It was nice to have a cheap option for okay sushi close to home… but the attitude today was intolerable. Read my dining partner Steve G’s review for the full scoop.
Customer Service 101: PUTTINGYOURCUSTOMERSFIRST. The manager is so oblivious to this concept. She has this«I am always right» attitude that is infuriating. She argued with me insistently and tried to convince me that I was wrong to say that they were misleading and had false advertisement. BAD move Takara. BADBAD move. I left pissed because of how rude she was and how she does not give a rats ass about her costumers — let alone her regular customers. From now on, I’ll be going to Kyoto for sushi instead. I’ll appreciate knowing that I am supporting a business that has better business tactics and that I actually care about.

My boyfriend and I went to Takara for dinner last night and it was AMAZING! The restaurant has a cool trendy feel to it and we were seated immediately. Let me start off with I am not a huge raw-fish sushi eater, and have only ever been to a few Japanese resturants before. This one caters to both sushi and hibachi lovers. There was a full bar, with a few seats up at the bar and a tv. You could also sit at the sushi bar. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual. What we ordered: — The large hot saki: it was pretty good for standard saki — Shumai(steamed shrimp dumpling) for an appetizer: it was like nothing I have ever had before and it was delicious! — Chicken Hibachi Dinner: came with clear soup(so tasty), salad(I *love* the ginger dressing!!!); then I received a HUGE plate full of food: the chicken was so tender and flavorful, and came with two dipping sauces, the fried rice was some of the best I have ever had, and the noodles and veggies were incredible. It was so much food, I couldn’t even eat half of my dinner! — Pink Love(one of the specials): OH. MY. GOODNESS. This was by far the best sushi I have ever eaten… it was similar to a spicy tuna roll with avocado and cream cheese wrapped in a pink wrapper with some sort of crispies on the top(sorry, as I mentioned I am not a huge sushi eater). It was like heaven, and I could eat one of the sushi pieces every day for the rest of my life! The individuals pieces were very large. –Spicy tuna roll: These were also good, but not as good as the Pink Love. Much better than other spicy tuna rolls I have had because it was more flavorful and tasted fresh and not at all dry. –Miso soup: I’m not really a huge fan, preferred the clear soup to the miso but it was more flavorful than other miso soup I have had. In conclusion, the food here was suburb and I highly recommend Takara. If I am ever in the area again I will most certainly stop by for at least a snack.

ORDERED: Scallop Sushi — $ 1.70, Sea Eel Sushi — $ 1.50, Flying Fish Roe Sushi — $ 1.50, Hibachi Chicken Dinner — $ 10.95, Teriyaki Chicken Shrimp Dinner — $ 18.95 TASTE: The sushi was dry and almost tasteless. Much better sushi experience at Izumi’s in my humble opinion. The soups that came before the meal were 98.5% broth and 1.5% vegetables or tofu. The salads were iceberg lettuce with tiny slivers of carrot. WHYTHETHREESTARRATINGTHEN? HIBACHICHICKENDINNER is a WINNER! For only $ 10.95 my plate was heaping with tender white meat chicken, tender vegetables, fried rice and soba noodles. It was a tasty mix of protein, carbs, salt and sweet. My partner paid $ 18.95 for basically the same sized dish.(*HINT: Order the hibachi chicken dinner from the sushi order form as it’s cheaper.*)

My good friend is a sushi fanatic. She goes out for sushi with her family almost every week. My co-workers and I decided to go out for sushi for dinner and randomly chose Takara because they have a great deal on Mondays. I decided to invite my good friend because she had never been to Takara. I ordered the spider rolls and the coconut bubble tea. The rolls were huge! Like, have to take two bites instead of just one mouthful. From the little I know this may be a bad thing to sushi connoisseurs. I’m a newb so if it tastes good I’m all for it, and it was indeed very tasty. My friend loves this place so much that every Monday for the past 6 months she has been going to Takara with her parents. Takara has the best value and doesn’t short you on quality because of it.

Tasty sushi, friendly service, and a menu that includes Bubble Tea — what’s not to love?! I agree with other reviewers that the sushi here is a great value. I also appreciate that while they do offer what I’ll call«concept» rolls with numerous fancy ingredients, they haven’t forgotten how to do the simple, traditional rolls either. Enjoy!

As much as I like to think I know where to get the best sushi somewhere downtown, some strip mall joint gets my goat, but in a good way. I went on a Saturday night, and in my LBD and was definitely overdressed, take note. After a couple of reasonably priced glasses of pinot grigio, i was served a sushi pyramid! We ordered 5 rolls, that came arranged on an enormous platter in an artistic fashion I have never seen before. Its sort of like that phrase, its not what you say but how you say it. It wasn’t the sushi, but how it was pyramided. after I ruefully tore the thing down, it truly stood up to my taste test. The rolls were terrific, particularly the Beauty and the Beast roll: spicy tuna topped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and avocado… all the best in one! They were accommodating to add or subtract ingredients in a couple of rolls also. The edamame sort of threw me off — I usually expect the larger salt crystals instead of the table salt that was sprinkled all over it. Our server became a little bit of a table lingerer, but she was sweet and from China, and had me at hello. She asked for advice on how to correctly pronounce ‘trisha’, which I eventually understood as the word treasure. She got a nice tip for being so adorable. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and doesn’t make you feel as though you are dining in a strip mall. It is worth taking the trip west of the freeway for some fresh and delicious sushi.

I don’t know how I feel about this place. I might have to give them a second chance. Went on a Monday night for ½ off. Some of the things on the half off list weren’t on the menu, and vice versa. I got a spider roll, alaska roll, new york roll, and a cucumber roll. My friend had a roll I really liked, but we weren’t sure what it was called(we suspect it might have been the fashion roll). My rolls were just okay. I will say they wrapped them really tightly and that gets major points in my book, as I’m not the best with the chopstix. I didn’t like their spider roll. I’m a huge spider roll fan and this is the first one I haven’t liked. My friend felt the same about her rainbow roll. The food here is good, not great. I don’t know if I’d go back. The place was dead quiet except for this annoying birthday song that was so loud it hurt my eardrums. The service was pretty good, fast & attentive. I was just a little underwhelmed by the sushi here.

Came here for lunch — love their lunch special. It is 8.95 for two rolls that comes with soup and salad — pretty good deal. The soup and salad are pretty standard — average. The rolls are definitely great because there is a good amount of fish in them — I hate it when restaurants try to trick you into thinking you’re paying little when really they just give you a small amount of fish — not the case here. We also ordered a special roll — I’m not a big fan of tempura rolls, it was about average. I will admit their fish slicing skills leave a bit to be desired(the fish was a bit messily cut and rolled), but to be fair it was lunchtime and again I can overlook it since the rolls were so full of fish. I will definitely come back!
