History

Established in 1976.

Brown Appliance and Mattress, formerly known as Brown Appliance and TV, has been in business since 1976. The first store was opened by John Brown and was an immediate success. This success is attributed to John, who was well known for his story telling and work ethic. John Browns, son «Cubby» and later, daughter Christy worked along side their Dad in building the family business and moved the store from the old state liquor store in Ellsworth Shopping Center to the Mill Mall and in 1997, to its current location on High Street. Brown’s grew again when Mattresses were added to the inventory in 2001.
