History

Established in 1955.

July 6, 1955, Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A. was opened for business. After graduating Echols Mortuary College in Philadelphia, Ralph Hicks along with his wife, Ellanor, was employed with the Ruck Funeral Home in the Baltimore/​Washington area.

In 1965, Donald Hicks began working at the funeral home, attended Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, graduating with honors in 1971. A second generation funeral director, he had an exemplary role model in his father. Kristen Hicks Erisman became the third generation of the Hicks family to attend mortuary school. In 2005 she thus became the third generation of the Hicks family to become a licensed mortician.
