History

Established in 1991.

Captain’s Quarters for Pets was started by Barbara Hambleton, a true animal lover. It started as a 60 run kennel with a cattery and expanded to a 120 run kennel and cattery. In addition to boarding, we began offering walks and playtimes to our guests for an added fee and in 2015 added splash pool time for our summer boarders. In June of 2013, Barbara’s daughter, Holly Carhart, joined her in the business and Holly’s daughter, Sara, joined as well as manager of the kennel.

Business Owner

Holly has been involved with animals her entire life. Around age 14, her family got their first American Staffordshire Terrier which led to many years of attending dog shows and breeding and raising litters of puppies. In addition, Holly’s first job was at a boarding kennel and she worked at many different kennels as a teen/​young adult. She also attended and completed a grooming course at Baltimore School of Dog Grooming. She lives on site with her family and their 2 dogs, 4 cats, 4 guinea pigs and 2 goats.
