Barbara Deckert Couture is a custom dressmaking studio that provides one of a kind, hand-​made garments made with couture quality workmanship, top drawer materials, and custom fit. Any size, any style. Wedding gowns and headpieces, evening gowns, day dresses and suits. Plus sizes my specialty.

Please note: I do custom work only; I do not do alterations.

With over 23 years in business, over 40 years of sewing experience, and a nationally recongnized level of expertise, I can help you look your best for your special occasion or for every day. All work is done here in Elkridge, MD (near BWI Airport), in the USA, by me, with no subcontracting.

Business Owner

I started sewing over 40 years ago as a young teenager after being taught by a 4-​H leader who was a custom dressmaker and tailor. I received a B.A. in English from Washington State University in 1975. I started my business in 1988 when my youngest child entered kindergarten. I am a charter member of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals. I am the author of two books: Sewing for Plus Sizes: Design, Fit and Construction for Ample Apparel (Taunton 1999) and Sewing 911: Practical and Creative Rescues for Sewing Emergencies (Taunton 2001). I have written dozens of articles for Threads, Sew News, Butterick Home Catalogue, and other magazines. I have been interviewed as a sewing expert by dozens of national newspapers and magazines. I have appeared on television three times.
