The Running Zone

I stopped in while passing through Sacramento because I needed a pair of shorts. The guy was friendly and got me what i needed. It had a nice atmosphere inside, though a little sparse on offerings.
I can’t complain.

Sat and waited for them to open up on Sunday at 12:00pm, for an hour. Watched multiple people walk up to the doors, only to leave in disappointment. How does this place stay open? What use is putting up store hours when they aren’t followed? Extremely disappointed in this place

They did a wonderful job fitting me with the perfect pair of shoes. They have amazing service and amazing products. If you are trying to figure out what type of shoe is best for you, you should definitely stop by and get properly fitted with them. I am so happy with my new shoes!!!

If you are a retail store how can you turn customers away by not opening your store at the stated time of 12 noon. if you can’t trust the store will open on time how can you trust their advice. the store times i found on the internet said 10am opening time, so i was there at 10 am too.
my high school son needed running shoes and the track coach recommended this store, however the store can’t open it at 12noon on sunday. i waited for 15minutes and called the phone number on the front door but no one answered.
Thank Goodness for FLEET FEET!!! they were opened…

I love the Running Zone, Alway very friendly and informative. I came in to buy one pair and walked out with two. I realize that I need two different shoes with the different distances I run. Elk Grove should support local businesses. I’ll always buy my shoes here, good job guys keep up the good work

I came here today to get a proper shoe fitting. I arrived when they were supposed to open, at 10:00am. I waited 20 minutes in the parking lot but nobody showed up. The store was dark, door locked and nobody answered the phone, 20 minutes past their listed opening time. I was extremely frustrated that not only was I not able to be fitted, but that nearly 30 minutes of my time was wasted on nothing. This is not how to run a business.

Great place to find your running shoes. The return policy was awesome if it’s within 30 day’s. Also, they have awesome deals as well.

Purchased running vest for my wife. Did not fit and store tried ordering right size. Item was discontinued. Even though receipt stated «store credit only», owner gave me a refund. Very helpful and pleasant customer service.

This store has horrible customer service. Went in to buy some Hoka One One running shoes. They said, «we’re out.» Didn’t offer to order or any other options, just, «we’re out!» So, I went over to Fleet Feet. What a difference! They treated me like a king. You’d think when you spend $ 150 plus on running shoes, you could expect good customer service? I only live within 2 miles of this store and like to support local business whenever possible, but this kind of experience makes it difficult.

When I searched for running stores and saw this was locally owned I decided to go give it a shot. Here’s what I loved… I was in and out quickly. The last time I bought shoes I spent all of this time trying to be upsold… someone trying to convince me that the socks I was wearing were going to be the doom of my running… then the shirts… etc. I walked in here and Chris asked how he could help me. I told him I needed running shoes and a bit about how I run. He had me roll up my pant legs and walk around, asked some pertinent questions and then brought me shoes. I ran around the store like a dork, picked the ones out that worked best and was DONE. I have only been back in the area a few months and was really glad to find a place that I was comfortable with so easily.

This is my first ever BAD review of any establishment, since I understand that sometimes things happen beyond the norm; but what’s happened to me is incomprehensible. I’ve supported this store since I started running. But NEVER again! I ordered shoes from them, which after more than two months never came. I called many, many times and left messages without ANY REPLY! After so much time passed, I requested a refund, and with an apology was told that within 72 hours it would be posted to my account. A week later, no refund! I called again today, pretty angry, and was sent a picture confirmation of a refund, dated TODAY! WOW!!! I’ve supported them for so long because I thought they valued loyal customers. They’ve shown me so very differently!

As a nurse I always struggle to find good shoes that can keep up with my 12 hour shifts. Chris took the time to give me a proper fitting which I had never had before, I assure you it made all the difference. If you haven’t had your walk/​feet examined I highly recommend it. I was unaware that the types of shoes I was purchasing were completely wrong for me! Thanks Running Zone!

I always support shopping local, especially for running shoes and running inserts. Since Im an avid runner, this small store is staffed with experienced runners, triathletes; anything with running, they probably got it.
The staff here are always friendly, willing to help you out because they know that if you don’t have the right shoe to run in, it could cause injuries which could lead to missing out in your big race.
I won’t lie though, the shoes could be upwards of $ 80 but it’s well worth it, considering the staff will see what shoes are best after having you just walk a few steps. Also, if the shoes you’re looking for aren’t immediately in stock, they can order it for you, how convenient!
Not only do they have shoes, but they have the nutrition for longer runs, they have post-​run stretching aids, lots of running apparel and accessories, and those cool stickers/​license plate frames for when you do finish your big race.
In addition to being a top-​notch running store, they also host a quarterly 5K; all four races making up a series. The best part: the race is only $ 10. Its a nice fast and flat course so for the serious runners, you can get a pretty good PR here. They also sponsor other bigger Elk Grove area races, like Running of the Elk Half Marathon. The cool thing about this is that usually these races benefit their philanthropy which gives those less fortunate the ability to run with good shoes!
Overall, this store is where to go if you need running shoes, or anything running, walking too. They have one of the friendliest customer services in the area and are knowledgeable of the running shoe and running form. A definite 5 out of 5.

Haven’t purchased from the Running Zone, but participated in their Elk Grove 5K Fun Run series for 2013. I completed 4 out of their 5 timed races, as well as one truly «fun» run for Cinco de Mayo. The race series costs only $ 10 per race, and you get a bib number and coned off course that takes you from the Auto Mall past Cosumnes Oaks HS and back. It’s a great local run that helps for tuning up, something healthy to do early on a Saturday or Sunday morning with a great crowd (all ages, strollers and dogs welcome). Raffle prizes once the last runner/​walker crosses the finish line. Refreshments as well. It’s also a packet pickup location sometimes for ACOP or other local races such as Running of the Elk. Mimi is so sweet. Also meet the store’s pet cat!

Great service. Came in to buy some new shoes and was helped immediately. They had me walk around in different shoes and they actually put in some effort to find a good fit. Their service blew away other stores who just have you try random shoes on with no thought. I ended up leaving with a very comfortable pair of shoes. I’ll definitely be back.

Only been there once, but loved it! My wife and I just started running more heavily and wanted to get some good shoes, so we went in to have them help us. They checked out our feet and watched us walk and run. My wife and I both left with the most comfortable shoes we’ve ever worn, plus a lot smarter about running and running wellness.
Because of the service, we had already decided we’d buy our shoes there, but we also checked prices on
, and Running Zone’s prices won out.
We also love that we’re supporting a local business owned and operated by local teachers.

The people here are friendly. I’ve haven’t purchased anything from the Running Zone, but I came here for a fun run (free). It was a family-​friendly run. They also have an Elk Grove 5K FUN RUN series. Each race only costs $ 10. Race proceeds benefit their non-​profit, The Running Free Foundation. Support your local store!

I purchased running shows from the Running Zone two weeks ago. Mimi fit me and the shoes are unbelievable. They are so comfortable and don’t hurt (which is a miracle for me). Thanks to Mimi for taking the time to fit me properly.
