Sheldon Acres Child Development Center

Sheldon acres exceeded my expectations for any daycare in Sacramento/​Elk Grove region. The learning curriculum and resources that they provide to their students are beyond imaginable! My daughter has learned so much from the teachers here. The staffs are extremely friendly, professional and welcoming. You can tell that they absolutely love what they’re doing and when they start engaging with the students, you can definitely feel the connection. The location/​building is fairly big; there’s rabbits, goats and a large swimming pool in the back. I highly recommend this place to anyone that’s looking for a daycare center! –Sofia’s mom.

Care and summer camp programs. My 2 kids started 3 yrs ago with penguin preschool program, then moved up to Dolphins. Now they get after school care after kindergarten and 1^st grade. My Kindergartener is picked up from Elementary school when his class ends. They even get homework help. Healthy snacks and Fresh lunch are provided and there’s variety! They even accommodate special dietary needs. Their summer camp is amazing, full of fun activities! Preschool program is awesome — kids learn a lot. Kids are diverse from different backgrounds. School has good balance of indoor and outdoor activities. My kids are never ever bored of going there. The owners and teachers are just amazing — you feel safe leaving your kids in their hands.

This school is absolutely amazing. I drive out of my way to have my daughter attend and my son will be going very soon. They do so many activities and fun things with the kids … More than many other schools in the area and for the same tuition fees. I have had my daughter attend another school prior to this and schools my friend’s kids attend don’t do nearly as many activities as Sheldon Acres does. The teachers and staff are professional and very kind. They treat the kids as if they are family and my daughter begs to go to school even when she is sick and I have her stay home. The school is very clean, organized and WAY bigger than other schools I did walk throughs at. Plus — they have swimming lessons and if your child attends there … They will do the lessons while the kids are at school so I don’t have to get off of work early to make sure I get the kids swimming lessons in, not to mention they are cheaper than the gym I attend. I recommend this school to anyone and everyone! It’s worth the drive out to the school!

My daughter goes to Sheldon Acres and we couldn’t be happier with this place! Bob and Susan the owners are wonderful with the kids. And to top it off they have hired the best teachers around! My daughter loves this place and that makes me happy to know that she is in good hands while away from me. Its hard trusting your kids with other people but right when I walked in I felt that feeling that everything would be OK, plus its a very structured daycare and not only is she having fun with other kids but she is also learned all the essentials and skills for school. The holidays are fun as well, they always have something special for the kids to enjoy, and the swim lessons by Susan was very helpful and now my little one swims like a fish!

In Elk Grove/​South Sac, we have home daycare center and then the standard places – MerryHill, Phoenix, private schools – for our preschoolers. All pricey, all a little canned, cramped, and very impersonal.
Our son and many of other friends’ kids (lots of local teachers have sent their kids here… you follow the trails of the teachers!) attended Sheldon Acres.
This place is what a preschool development center should be. When we were clients, kids were divided into groups (age groups). They’re cute Penguins and Dolphins! I loved this approach. The kids spent the day learning all the essentials skills they need to get ready for grade school – academic and socialization.
The academic part is a no brainer. Sheldon Acres is linked into the Elk Grove District in a way that keeps them in touch with what the kids need to learn. By the way, they give back! The owner recently sponsored an event for our elementary school to help our 4^th-​6^th grade science program.
Let me get into the socialization part and the personal touch. This school is spacious. Imagine room for the little kids inside the building and outside in the acres of space! There’s so much pressure in grade school so this is the age to let the kids have fun and explore. Sheldon Acres is absolutely set up for this dynamic! Your kids will get to interact with other children, they get them ready for how to eat in a cafeteria when they’re ready for kinder/​1^st grade. Great teachers to supervise then. Kids can still be kids here. They have nap time for the younger kids. I remember my son loving the fact that one of the teachers would come by an rub his back. «Miss T does this and it helps me to nap, mommy!»
The owners are good people. One year when I had logistics issues and even after my son no longer attended Sheldon Acres, the owner would pick my son up along his school pick up route (they have pick up service, too!!) and drop him off at our friends’ house for me on days I needed him. It’s not normal operating procedure, but these owners have a heart! That’s who you want to run a child development center!
They also have a swimming pool at their facility. My son took lessons here and he’s now on the swim team :)

This school is so awesome! I’m really glad we found this school and placed our son and daughter there. Since this was their first time away from home, the kids were really scared to have me go. It was amazing how quickly the staff worked together to help them become comfortable and after a few days, they would run off when I dropped them off and didn’t want to leave when I came to pick them up. I really appreciated this personal attention. All the teachers know the students as well as their parents by name. Everyone is warm and quick to listen to any concern, I always feel welcome at any time. The education is great too. I have sat in on several sessions and appreciate how teachers focus on math, language arts, and arts & crafts. The kids always bring something home every day. Overall, I am really happy with my experience and that of my children’s at Sheldon Acres.

Living in Wilton there are only a few structured daycare centers to choose from. We visited and reviewed them all before choosing Sheldon Acres. That was two years ago, and may I say the school has been a blessing for our family.
The directors/​owners are committed to loving care and educational enrichment for the kids. While we have noticed a recent turnover in teachers, the school has done a good job in maintaining consistency for the kids and as such my daughter has flourished. We feel she is safe and happy here and that she is progressing well educationally. She is right on par or ahead of her new friends in kindergarten and she has made some good friends that she meets with outside of daycare.

I have to say when we first started our child at Sheldon Acres preschool it seemed like a great school. Loved all the outside space for the kids to play and the great teachers they had there. I did the normal drop off and pick up and didn’t get too involved. That was a HUGE mistake on my part. I’m so thankful for the friends I have made from the school who informed me things they witnessed with their own eyes. My husband and I were absolutely appalled at things we heard that were going on. We acted on what we did hear from not one person but multiple people. When we decided it was time we heard enough and we were going to pull our child I had the NOT so great pleasure of dealing with the owners Susan and Bob and seeing first hand how bad his temper is. I would hope that they as parents could understand and see where we are trying to do the best to protect our kids. It was not a hear say from just one person it was multiple people and different occasions. It also speaks volumes when the school has such a high turnover rate of teachers!!! In the year and a half we have been there I cant tell you the number of teachers that have come and gone. And my son tells me that he had a sub at school and come to find out its a new teacher. The owners are just more concerned with making money and not worried about the education or growth of your kids. They will pack classes as full as they can to make sure that they get the money coming in. I really hope parents do their homework on preschool since they are the people we are trusting our kids with and we expect them to be keeping our little ones safe and happy!
And FYI I’m giving the school a 1 star purely on the fact that I think a small few of the teachers are amazing!

My son has been going to Sheldon Acres for over 1 year now and he has thrived! Susan & Bob are terrific owners and alll the teachers are fantastic. I have not been happier with their care. My son loves to go to school, he doesn’t want to leave when I pick him up and the swim lessons are the BEST! We had a recent loss in our family and all the staff at SA were concerned for my son and helped me help him through the loss of his dad. I couldn’t have asked for better treatment. I’m sad to see that some people have had a bad experience but not every child is going to fit in at every place. I love SA and will keep my son there for as long as I can!
