S & G Carpet and More

I ordered carpet for a stair runner on November 30, with hopes of getting it installed as soon as possible after I completed refinishing the wood floors in my 1893 home. The carpet was verified available at the factory and was expected to arrive in 7 – 10 days. I foolishly assumed I would be called when it arrived, to schedule the next step. After 4 weeks I called them and was told they have had the carpet for quite a while. Okay, my fault for assuming they cared about completing the job in a timely manner.
So now I had to schedule someone to come out again and take more precise measurements for cutting the runner pieces before it could be seamed together. Yes, someone had already come out to take measurements before the initial order but apparently those were just rough measurements. The detailed measurement happened the following week and involved such precision as laying a pencil about six inches away from a wall and then and then measuring the distance to another pencil about six inches away from the other wall… When the salesperson originally told me someone would come out and take precise laser measurements I had pictured something different. Now we are over a month after the original order.
The carpet binding was expected to take a week so I gave it about 1.5 weeks before I called back (now that I knew they would not go to the trouble of calling me). The very insightful (sarcasm) young lad on the phone seemed vexed. He said it should have been back January 13, but did not appear to be. He recommended just giving it another week and check back then. Unfortunately, I was busy and did not get to call them until January 22. I’m pretty sure the same insightful person answered. The carpet is supposedly in and they’ve been WAITING FOR ME to schedule installation. I asked if there was installation availability Tuesday afternoon and he acknowledged they could do 9 – 11 Tuesday. I informed him that 9 – 11 was not in the afternoon. He said 11 was the latest they could schedule. I informed him that I could only schedule something for the afternoon. Then he recommended Saturday. I told him I could not do tomorrow, to which he informed me that tomorrow and the following Saturday are already fully booked anyway. Finally he acknowledged that he could do 12 on Tuesday. I figured 12 reasonably fell into my request for afternoon so we have a date for installation scheduled.
Even if the installation is perfect, it will not balance the scales for the poor customer service up to this point. The only time they took the initiative to call me was after the initial estimate, they called to get the down payment, which was immediately paid before the order was placed. So, they will call to get money but they will not call to tell you the product you paid for has arrived. Likewise, if the installation happens, I bet they will have someone call quickly to get the final payment. Here’s to hoping the worst is over.

When we bought our brand new beautiful hardwood floor last November, we knew right away that we made the right choice. Everything from the service, selection and excellent installation were exactly what we hoped for.
More recently, we experienced a flood in our house and were faced with coming back to S&G Elk Grove for replacement flooring and installation. Luckily, they still had the exact same product and luckily our insurance paid for that replacement!
Faced with a mess in our home and now a bare concrete floor, Carole Peak offered so much kind support and empathy. She got right on it to locate the flooring and to set up the install. Her friendly voice was very reassuring to us anxious homeowners and she did an outstanding job with her followthrough to be sure that everything was ordered correctly and promptly. Excellent customer service!
The service didn’t stop there. Our installation guy, Brian, was absolutely amazing! He sure knows his stuff and did a fabulous job replacing the boards throughout a very large part of our house. His skill was spot on with having to «lace» the old with the new. His team was very professional, clean and efficient.
As I mentioned before, we were lucky from the get-​go to find S&G and will glad to come back to purchase our carpeting for the rest of the house. I only wish more businesses were this well run.

We chose S & G to install CoreTec Plus floors. Their expertise in installing this product is unparalleled. We wanted waterproof floors because we have messy kids and even messier dogs. I’m glad we did.
Tara Jones was very professional in her dealings with us. The installers were very knowledgeable with the product. They fixed my slab floors and evened them out before laying out the planks. They also installed our baseboards.
Highly recommended. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

We went with S & G over Home Depot for a wood laminate installation in our kitchen, dining area and hallway. There was no comparison in expertise when we talked with the S & G staff versus the Home Depot employee who tried to help us. We could not even get a firm breakdown of the quote the young man went to get from us.
The product ended up looking beautiful, although we had four issues that needed addressing: some confusion over the quantity of wood needed for one section of the hallway, lack of a final threshold strip into the garage, a pocket door challenge and oops, they didn’t notice that two cupboards would no longer open when they did the kitchen floor. It took awhile, but every single issue got resolved, and we can open our cupboards again, yeah!
Big shout out to James Jordan who finally got everything wrapped up for us. Next time hopefully we’ll give S & G five stars if we can streamline things a little, but finding qualified, knowledgeable and friendly vendors is not always easy, issues always seem to crop up with construction projects, and we were grateful for the great-​looking final product!

Came here to order new carpet and they were very helpful and friendly. The only thing is they don’t have very many in stock so you have to wait a few days until you get them, sometimes it’s a lil inconvenient, especially your time is limited.

I really like this company! I felt that I got an extremely good deal! They price matched the underlayment I found at Lowes with their current stuff they have (LexFloor, Silver Silent Guard). Also when we chose the laminate we wanted we picked out one by Mohawk, when I showed the sales rep she pointed me to the S&G sample they had of the same style, and she was able to give me a rather large discount on this as well. I thought for sure this was S&G’s version of the Mohawk brand, but nope when we picked up all our laminate it was the actual Mohawk brand and everything, just with a much more appealing price tag! How they are able to do this I have no idea lol, but I def. recommend this company. Every time I’ve gone in or called they’ve been more than happy to help and offer information, and like I said, who can beat a good deal!
Def. will visit S&G again when we plan to redue the upstairs. Can’t tell you exactly how the laminate LOOKS just yet as we are still in the process of installing, but so far looks great! And if it was an issue with the way it’d look it wouldn’t be S&G’s fault, it’d be mine for choosing that color :)

Looking for linoliem tiles (not vinyl) and was told by the staff person who answered the phone that they had these in many colors. After driving 20 minutes there found out that no, they only have vinyl, but it was essentially the same thing. Actually, they are not the same thing at all, so we left.

THESE GUYS ARE THE REAL DEAL! We purchased our home, and the lower floor was beautiful already… Laminate floors, stone entry. But the upstairs was awful with carpet that was 21 years old, and a generation of basset hounds. We decided to take the plunge and change out the carpet upstairs before moving in, because we KNEW we would never do it again. We called S&G first, and told the sales person over the phone (Julie), our situation. We had to estimate how much carpet to use because we were not in the new house yet. She looked up our house on websites that list homes for sale, and from there she was able to see pictures and give a good quote.
We went in to the sales floor the next day, and saw that the HIGHEST quote she gave us was for a carpet that we did not want. We had to choose from what they had in stock due to time constraints (we were moving in within a week-​and the carpet change out was unexpected on our budget as well as on our time).
We decided that IF we were going with S&G we wanted a higher quality carpet in stock that was higher than what we were told about over the phone. We left S&G feeling discouraged, and went to Home Depot. Their carpeting was okay, but the lower end carpet was what they promise to install within 72 hrs. We then went home thinking the upstairs would probably never be changed out.
S&G called me the next day, advising that they had spoken to the manager, and they were bringing the carpet we wanted down to very close to the highest quote they had per sq ft for the lower quality carpet (within a couple hundred dollars). We said YES and the actual SQ footage was measured the next day and installer was at our house 2 days later.
The next snag we had, was that the stairs were measured as standard, but they are really considered «Hollywood» stairs, taking more carpet to cover them and a lot more time to install. Our stairs have a lip on each step. The installer could have easily just covered over that (the carpet was originally installed without including the lip to each step, 21 years earlier so the measurer measured them as such). The installer called the manager at S&G and told him how it is, and that he did not want to give shoddy work. The manager agreed to give us the Hollywood steps at the same price. The installer explained to us that it ends up costing S&G $ 9 more per step to do them as Hollywood.
The installer was done, same day, and the carpet is EXACTLY as we expected. Very plush, and very good, thick, padding, AND unexpected Hollywood stairs that look beautiful, all for very close to the same price as we were quoted for lower quality. The installer was also friendly and by the way he called about the Hollywood stairs (he could have easily covered over the fact that they were originally installed without showing off the lip to each step… but he did not)

Well, what can I say… after a few hick ups of when my flooring & carpet could be installed, my home is beautiful. The staff at the Bond Rd location was the best & trust me, I made a lot of phone calls to them that I knew they were tired of me calling. Julie was wonderful & cheerful everytime I called & Robert was too. All installers; John, flooring, Raul & Elvis, carpeting & Paul & Will, baseboards, we’re very professional. I’m so glad I went with then instead of Empire or Home Depot or Lowes. Thank you to all the great employees. You made my purchase & home wonderful!!! Wayne, CSM, you have great employees that work for you. You should be proud of all of them for not just doing their job but going beyond:)

My husband and I are remodeling our kitchen and, after some shopping around, we stopped in the Elk Grove S&G location to talk about getting new flooring. Sales Rep Celise greeted us with a big smile and patiently answered all our crazy questions. She listened to our home particulars and needs and made several suggestions for what we might like. We soon settled on vinyl tile in a nice neutral pattern which will be lovely in our kitchen. Celise was helpful and extremely knowledgable about all the available products. She even helped us with some future anticipated carpet needs. We picked up our product yesterday and will be installing this weekend. We are very happy with our choice to purchase from S&G. Incredible, simply said. Here’s my story…
We needed carpet and lino for a rental property that we have. We shopped S&G first. We found the flooring we liked and got them to come to the home and give us a quote.
We thought that we may be able to get better price on the labor portion so I reached out to another flooring company and with my quote in hand was able to obtain a labor quote which was less by a few hundred dollars.
I then approached S&G and asked to speak to a manager. He was very willing to openly discuss the pricing and the difference in labor. He plainly asked me where I needed to be and what I was looking for. I told him exactly what I wanted and he agreed to make a change for me.
I signed the contract and scheduled the installation. The installation was complete in one day with NO issues. Everything worked out fine!!!
I would strongly suggest using S&G in Elk Grove. I will clearly use them again in the future.

We purchased laminate through them. We checked out one other place and the other place honestly didn’t seem like they wanted our business. Too casual, not as personal. We went to S&G and, right away, they were able to answer any questions, personable, and very knowledgeable. We went through them, and they’ve been very efficient in getting it done, communicative the entire way of letting us know everything we need to, and comparable to everyone else we’ve looked at. All in all, it has been a great experience and we’ve been extremely happy with them through everything. The house looks like a totally different house, and they have done everything in installing this to make sure every detail is taken care of.

Good quality and good service. .. my husband was trying to remove the last of a linoleum floor and asked S&G what to do. .. rather than sell my husband a tool, the employee said, «I have the tool you need in my truck — you can borrow it» — that’s my kind of business. .. the kind of business who truly puts the customer first. So of course we purchased our lino flooring from S&G — and I will certainly give them my business again in the future.

I am very experienced with home improvement after having done dozens of remodels and improvements on my homes using local contractors. Working with S & G recently (2013) has been the WORST experience with a home improvement business I’ve ever had. They took a hefty down payment for flooring work and said they’d install within a week. Weeks passed and we never heard from them. We had to call repeatedly to get any kind of status on the flooring we ordered; no one from S & G ever bothered to notify us that there would be a delay. Each time, the salesman Dino said «it will be here in 2 days» just to get us off the phone, apparently. It never came. 2 months later, still no floor! I was almost ready to report them to BBB and get my money back. Did they offer to refund our $ or give us a discount for the long delay? Of course not. The installers showed up late each day, and we were repeatedly inconvenienced with a project that should have taken only 1 ½ days, took 2 ½ months.
Spare yourself some frustration and time. There are way too many good floor contractors in the Sacramento and Elk Grove areas to hire S & G.

We were looking for carpet and laminate and had no idea what we were looking for. We waited a half hour and got no help. We left and went to Home Depot who helped us immediately and had a lot of hpful information.
