Crunch

Crunch is a nice intimate gym. Everyone who attends the gym knows that the service is great and all customers are very helpful.

The workers there live in fear. Fear of losing their job. That’s why they don’t have great customers service. No «hi, hello, how are you?» Business is definitely not focus on the right areas. Came in to work out with my friends, they claimed that I was coaching there. Like I thought the place «got no judgements.» They are scare that I will steal their business. Obviously if your trainers are so good, fit, and truly care about people, you guys would have business. A few trainers are out of shape, always see new trainers, and No One look happy there. Once again, business is definitely not focus on the right areas. Like if you are also firing your trainers because they are ‘not good,’ maybe the problem is not the trainers but it’s the ppl at the top you know. Anywho they kicked me out because I was working out with my friends. Then a few months later I went back in as a guest. Janine Bueno the general manager said I can’t come in because I was kicked out. Like what’s your problem? I am not doing anything wrong I’m not training anyone anymore. She said the ‘owner’ of the company won’t let me come in. I asked for documentation but she said there’s no need.
I wasn’t thinking about writing any review because it not only waste time but I believe when you do something unjust in business, it will compound and come back to eat the business. However, I decided to because this is not right and I think people should know. As a business owner, we know that our #1 priority is to keep customers happy. When I finally came back, I hardly see people getting personally trained anymore and a lot of the trainers there were no longer working there. Found out one of the trainer got fired (he is my friend), for jogging with his friend when he wasn’t on the clock. The friend is a crunch member and also a retired police officer, he told the trainer that it wasn’t right what Janine did and that the trainer should appeal. My friend who is the trainer said «No Thank You, I don’t want to work there anyways.»
My other friend who goes there, have to get scanned every time he walks outside to his car to grab something. Like the heck, it’s not like his membership will expire in 2 min. I’m fed up, because the managers here and the workers here don’t care about people. (only the new workers who are not yet affected by this culture are great workers) Like go find a job that you love or is happy about. If you are scare of losing your job and don’t care about customers, why work there? We pay for your bills, remember that darling.

I really enjoy these gyms compared to others (24 Hr, California Family Fitness, Fitness Evolution). I am not a gym rat, but I like staying fit with body building, or weight training and don’t have the space at home for a setup. There isn’t a huge social factor or meat market feeling going on like some other places. Two features I really enjoy are the hydro massage and tanning which are free for peak memberships. A bargain for 25 bucks.

I really like Crunch gym. I have tried many different gyms from California Family Fitness, 24 hour Fitness, local gyms that have since gone out of business, and others.
If it was a little more reasonable in price I would be a member of California Family Fitness to this day, but in my opinion Cal Fit is in a different category of gyms. Crunch is more like your economy gym rather than your full service gym. For its category, I feel Crunch is great.
First off, you can’t beat the price and the fact that there is no contract.
Secondly, I feel that the staff is very friendly and helpful… never had an issue with staff.
Thirdly, I love that while it can get very busy, I have never had to sit around waiting for equipment to come available. I must say that the free weights are pretty packed, but when it gets too full there is ALWAYS a treadmill or something else available no matter how busy it gets. I have been to 24 hour fitness and had to sit around and wait for equipment to open up it was so busy where I’ve never had to do that at Crunch.
If you are looking for a good, clean, economical gym that is nice on the wallet I would recommend Crunch. If you are looking for a full service gym that offers all of the amenities then you won’t like Crunch.

I’m starting to change my opinion about this gym. Yeah it’s cheap and convenient, but the management needs work. The employees are nice but the manager was completely disrespectful to one of my relatives whose membership expired and the employee let him go work out because she was on the phone when he was waiting to renew with her but later she calls him from across the floor, which was completely unprofessional. She later apologized, but that’s still unacceptable to any paying customer. In addition, they’re getting worse with fixing equipment. Machines can go past a month before finally getting fixed. The most annoying was when their water bottle refill broke. I already paid for a year a few weeks ago so I might as well get my money’s worth, but things need to change ASAP.

Very very annoyed with this gym. Attempted to cancel my membership over a year ago. Just got a call asking why my annual payment didn’t go through. Found out they have been charging me every month even though it’s been a year and a half. Not my fault a member there didn’t know the correct cancelation process. After call after call and even having to go in (I’m not in the area anymore) they waived the annual fee but still made me pay the for the rest of the month. I guess a year and a half of charging me just wastn’t enough. Unbelievable.

Was about to give this place 5 stars, but there is a middle aged blonde lady receptionist that is absolutely rude to everyone that walks in there. Keep in mind, its not even to me. Just several people there. At first I thought she was pmsing, but she has been rude consistently for the past 4.5 months. Ridiculous.

Summary:
This gym is cheap, clean, and for the most part well-​kept. I enjoy that at peak times you can still get stuff done and there’s a very friendly environment established. Machines are new, although I’m pretty sure everything here is 5−10% easier than their should be (maybe built a tad wrong). The treadmills are plentiful and almost always working. I use my smartphone to get in every time, so this place is extremely convenient for me.
Amenities:
They have a little shop that offers some apparel and workout snacks. The bathrooms are clean, and spacious. The lockers are a good size and clean. The water fountains have cold water and also a water bottle refiller. There are quite a few TVs all over the place, and I catch myself being drawn into some of the funnier things.
Location:
Great location right off of the 99. Parking is always available, but I wish there were more shady spots.
Staff:
Really, you go to a gym to workout and feel good. The trainers and staff are pretty good about this and present themselves as helpful and friendly. There also almost always is an employee going around cleaning machines when not in use.
No Judgement:
I strongly feel this is true here, I am a gay man who enjoys coming here with my boyfriend and no one has an issue with this at all. Awesome.

I love this gym! It is on the smaller side, so at times it does get crowded, but there is never a time where I can’t get on a machine that I don’t like. The staff is super friendly and the price is unbeatable. For 19.99 I can bring a friend, work out on my own, do classes, tan and get a hydro massage.

Great cheap membership price with perks like being able to bring a guest every-​single-​time you go! Yes, the gym itself isn’t as spacious, but surprisingly I’ve never had to wait for a treadmill during after work hours, 7pm ish. They have all the equipment you need to get a great workout in. The only con is that I wished they would have more locations, but I’ll take what I can get for now!

U get what u pay for ive had a pass with them since they first opened $ 20 and u can bring a friend. And use their tanning and al of that. I just hate how small the gym is and its pretty hard to get on an equipment sometimes. And they close super early on sundays. Overall the gym is okay and at least they turn their ac on lol

Reasons why I joined and will continue my membership:
1. Jessie was very courteous and professional. He allowed me to do the free trial just to see how the gym worked with my schedule.
2. No pushy salesman
3. The gym is kept very clean. I even saw one of the employees talk to a member about dropping the equipment. They really care about their facility here.
4. The month-​to-​month plan is an excellent deal!
If you’re shopping around for a gym in the Elk Grove area, look no further. Hats off to this facility and their employees! (Btw, my fiancé joined too!)

I have been coming to this gym for almost a year now. I used to have a membership at 24, but that was getting pretty expensive to keep. Crunch offers two different types of memberships, a base which is $ 9.99 a month and peak which is $ 19.99 a month. I decided to purchase the peak membership since it allows you to bring one guest with you and also lets you participate in the variety of classes it offers as well as hydro massage and tanning. However, I have yet to take part in a class and the hydro massage/​tanning amenities.
I do miss being able to go to the gym whenever I felt like it, and since Crunch isn’t 24 hours I can’t enjoy that luxury anymore. However, Crunch is open to 11pm during the week which is just fine with me, but I wish it was open that long on the weekend too. It closes at 6pm on Sat-​Sun which can be a bummer for me.
This place does get crowded, you just need to learn your timing. It gets really busy around 10am and 7pm. At least when I go at those times it’s pretty crowded.
I haven’t had a bad experience with anyone who works here, they are all pretty nice and friendly. One bummer is having to get your card scanned, at 24 they had a fingerprint machine that checks you in. Usually they are quick but sometimes when they are helping out another guest you might have to wait a little longer. It’s not a huge burden waiting, it just takes some time getting used to since I’ve been accustomed to just scanning my finger and walking in.
They have plenty of lockers in the bathroom if you need to store anything which is nice. The bathrooms are always clean which is a great thing. They have a few showers too but I don’t use them since I just go straight home and shower.
Overall, this is a great gym to join! They have plenty of machines and weights and an if there is no class going on you are allowed to workout in the empty room!

When I’m getting tried of coming to the Howe Avenue gym every workout days, I decided to go to the Elk Grove Crunch Fitness gym after I switched from basic to peak membership before Christmas 2013. This gym is well maintained and clean neatly for cardio machines and weight machines including dumbbells and barbells. It has a large, medium space building, so it’s easy to workout than the small Howe Avenue gym! Be warn for the peak hours because every early evenings and mornings are getting busy if you want to use the most popular machine (like machine chest fly) to get the results done.
The front desk clerks are amazing which they are friendly to welcome or saying farewell, and answering concerns too! The personal trainers in this Elk Grove gym are also friendly whether you want to get in shape, or planning to lose or gaining weight.
The membership plan is the same costing $ 9.99 per month for basic and $ 19.99 per month for peak.
In the end, Crunch Fitness in Elk Grove is the best back-​up place gym that I’ve ever visit. I’ll come back for more!

I waited not so patiently for Crunch to return money they incorrectly debited from my account. It took 2 months and three weeks of empty promises and then presto it appeared like magic. If they have your card on file-​BEWARE! Freezing or terminating your membership is not sufficient action to make them stop charging your card. Apparently you need an executive order signed by the president. Also, if you are black or gay this is what the Crunch owner thinks of you:

Great membership for only $ 10 a month! Nothing really bad I can say about this gym besides when it gets crowded you have to wait for machines because they aren’t as big and don’t have as much machines as bigger gyms.
But you get what you pay for! And it’s still a great gym with new machines and great employees! Most of the employees at the front desk try to learn your name and greet you every time you come in which is nice!
The gym is always clean and not that smelly! A lot of people working out make the effort to clean the machines/​benches they’ve exercised on with the cleaning supplies hanging on the multiple trash cans scattered around the gym.
Overall, a great gym! There’s also an hydro water massage for great post workout muscle relaxation!

No swimming pool, no sauna, no steam room, no healthy food/​snack bar… no problem; gym amenities I rarely use and can do without.
It’s no CalFit or 24 (I tried both prior), but for the membership rates, you’re getting what you paid for — the necessities: well-​kept cardio equipment, various selectorized machines, and free weights. Personal training, online/​nutrition programs, and group classes are also available.
The workers are helpful and always on the floor, cleaning, touring, training, or showing someone specific equipment functions.
They also have tanning booths and a Hyrdomassage bed. I’m brown all year round, so only one of them interests me :)

After some encouragement from my fellow Unilocaler and friend, Kelly L, I finally agreed to join Crunch. This is my 1^st gym membership period! Yup a Gym Virgin!!! I admit it! But starting to feel the result of ALL my eating out and my Unilocal habits, it was time to work this body out!
I was able to sign up with a $ 5 fee and the normal monthly fee of $ 9.95. Honestly I had no excused, I can spend $ 14.95 or more for my lunch, but this gave me over a month of membership! The only other fee is the annual fee of $ 29 but this is not charged until January 1^st each year.
Because of my work schedule and life I try to go to Crunch in the early am during the week. The doors open at 5 am, and I try to get there within that 1^st hour of opening. there is always machines available. And by 6:00 am there is literally just a few people working out. Over time I have been able to make my work out plan and it feels wonderful.
No crowds, cheap month to month fees, lots of workout machines, nice friendly staff, sweet water fountain, lots of TVs to keep me occupied and none of the drama I hear about from others who go to other gyms. Crunch is the nice way to go! I hope this review does not cause the memberships to go up LOL, I like it as it is. Love my Gym!
