Pro Swim Academy

I have 6 month old twins that I couldn’t wait to get into a pool and have them learn to become comfortable with the water. In October we began classes at Pro Swim Academy and we were so excited. The facility is very clean and has a great viewing area for parents that aren’t in the pool with the babies/​kids. The only drawback was that we essentially had to fend for ourselves at our first time at the facility, the front desk person didn’t explain the facility or amenities prior to our first class.
The class is a lot of fun and Ms. Melissa is a really sweet teacher. To our disappointment, we decided the following month that we couldn’t afford to pay $ 55/​baby a month to just splash around in the pool so we had to cancel our enrollment in November. We couldn’t come to the last 2 Saturday classes because we were out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday. We were told that we could make up the classes and that they only book a week in advance. When I did try to make up the classes in December when we were back in town, I was told that I needed to have them enrolled and I would have to pay another $ 110 in order to receive the service that I had ALREADY paid for. They said this is their policy. This is THEFT! You should not have to pay more in order to receive products or services that you already paid for. From the very beginning, the from desk staff was completely unknowledgeable about the facility, not showing us the facility nor did they explain any policies, including that there would be a recurring charge every month until you cancel your enrollment. From beginning to end, they were not forth coming with information when I called for information, so if you don’t read their policies on line you aren’t aware of any of this information. I should have and will in the future, be sure to ask these specifics. Needless to say, they didn’t care about how upset we were with this policy and I ended up having to dispute these charges through my bank.
Very disappointing! Be careful!

awesome for private parties. you get private access to the pool with a lifeguard for 1 hour. they set up and clean up. and the best part is the goodies are goggles.

My wife and I decided to take our 3 year old (2.5 year old at the time) to Pro Swim on the recommendation of a family member. My son always thought he was the next Michael Phelps and would jump into any pool without having the slightest clue on how to actually swim.
We tried a park district class but I didn’t really feel it was adequate at actually teaching him how to swim so on the recommendation we went to Pro Swim and have never looked back.
I love the teacher to student ratio and (usually 3 to 1, they allow up to 4 but in my experience it’s usually 2 or 3 students to 1 teacher). It’s been about 3 months and my son has gone from having no clue how to swim to being able to float and hold his breath when he «unexpectedly» goes under water. I say unexpectedly because the teachers will dunk them at various intervals so the kids don’t know when to expect it.
Rescheduling a missed class is 100% hassle free with their free smart phone app, just click the class you want to go to and 99% of the time it’s approved. If the class says «call» it means it’s full so you want to pick one that says «request».
Today they were short on teachers so they called to let me know they would have to reschedule my sons swim class and were also going to credit my account $ 20 for the inconvenience. They were also able to reschedule my son to tomorrow evening! I work in an industry where customer service is essential to our success and Pro Swim Academy gets it!
I would highly recommend them if you are thinking about a swim school for your child!

The staff and facility is great. We had both are children at the EGV Park District before. They have learned more in 1 month compared to what they learned at the EGVPD 3 years. Instructors are hands on and so each child equal amount of attention.

We started our son swimming here when it was ‘Dolphin Swim Academy’. Dolphin was recommended to us by a family member who has 2 toddlers that swim better than much older children we know, so we were obviously impressed. Our son was 8 months old when we began, and we really loved it. The teachers seemed trained in how to teach babies to swim, scheduling was easy and make-​ups were even easier! As Dolphin Swim — our only complaint was the limited availability of changing space after the baby class (only 2 rooms with changing tables and 6 – 8 babies needing to be changed.)
However, about 6 months into our classes, the owners split and the remaining owners renamed themselves to Pro Swim Academy. After that, we began seeing an immediate and continual downward spiral. Teacher turn-​over was ridiculous. Seemed like we had a new teacher every couple of weeks. The skill level of the teachers dipped drastically, too. Suddenly, class was being taught by what appeared to be teenagers with no real knowledge of how to teach baby swim. I even read on one of the bios posted on the wall that the teacher «swam on her HS swim team and liked kids.» Sounds like if you know how to swim, you can now be a teacher at Pro Swim Academy. I had one teacher who never actually told anyone what to do. Parents and babies were just standing around waiting to be instructed and she just stood around staring back at us. We had been going for a while, by this time, so I just started leading my son in the typical exercises and the teacher would join along with me (as if I was the teacher!)
The classes also suddenly became way over booked. At one class I counted 10 babies + 10 adults, all jammed into one little area of the pool. We were all on top of each other and my son couldn’t participate in half the activities (like jumps off the wall) because there was no space for him. Customer service went down-​hill, fast, too! I tried to call — on several occassions — but could never actually speak to a person. I’d leave voice messages and either get a response back several days after I needed an answer or, not at all. One time they called to tell me I could take a make-​up class, after the class had already happened! Very disorganized!
Even more importantly than the poor customer service and the crappy teachers is the fact that they only offer 1 baby level class for ages 4 months — 2 years. By the time my son reached 18 months he was no longer being challenged in the pool, at all, and there was nothing the teachers could do for him because he was surrounded by 4 – 6 month olds who could barely hold their own head up. I think he would have gained a lot more if he could have been surrounded by other children at his same level, so they could work on some of the more advanced baby techniques (deep dives and floating).
It was with much saddness — after almost a year and a half — that we parted ways with Pro Swim Academy because it simply was no longer worth our time or money to have our son enrolled.
PROS:
— Cheaper than many of the swim schools we looked into.
— Availability to make up any missed class by simply scheduling on-​line for a class that has room.

Very very clean facility. A wonderful front staff, Abby (i believe) was very informative and helpful with our first visit. The kids loved everything. I loved the showers available for them to wash the chlorine off :) changed them right into PJs and they, were ready for bed. Hair dryers available as well.
My only issue was the pricing. I have two kids. for $ 80/​child plus a facility fee each month for classes only 30 mins long was well over budget for me. If this isnt an issue for you, GO its fantastic.

This place is AMAZING! My daughter has been swimming here since they opened in June, recently the company changed names and I love them even more. The teachers are all so amazing, the desk staff is always willing to go above and beyond. They also have the most affordable birthday parties. Definitely recommend them to anyone looking for swimming lessons or extra-​curricular activities.

What can I say? It’s perfect. If only the carpeting would come back! The floor is too hard.
But the staff are great. The owner is very friendly. Truly an amazing team of people with great swim lessons!
