Holiday Inn Chicago-Elk Grove

Ugh… this hotel is just plain nasty. The rooms smell like basement. The bathroom is so small there’s almost not enough clearance to close the door. And I found a spider in my room. It’s real beat up and dungeon-​like. Thank goodness I only stayed for a few nights. I will not be back.

This Holiday Inn was the best Holiday Inn I have ever stayed in. The customer service was beyond amazing, the hotel was really clean and the staff was really nice. The hospitality was impeccable.
The rooms were a really nice size and quiet. I had not slept this well in 3 months because of my crazy work schedule and felt amazing to wake up to a good 10 hour sleep.
I would love to return and stay at this hotel again every time I visit Chicago.

Negatives, from beginning to end:
–NO SHUTTLE AFTER 10PM from O’Hare. When I asked the front desk woman what I should do she said «I don’t know, take a taxi?» and when I asked who would pay for it (as I was only staying in Elk Grove because of American Airlines’ mess up), she told me I’d have to pay for it myself. $ 30+ taxi fare from O’Hare!
–restaurant open 11AM-​10PM. Was closed when I arrived and closed when I left. They do accept American Airlines vouchers for food. I did not see a continental breakfast, but I may have come down too late for that.
–although this Holiday Inn is now non-​smoking, the room I was put in was formerly a smoking room. And it reeked. I know they are trying to remove the smell, but it’s not working.
–the walls/​door are paper thin. I had the TV on at a reasonable volume and could hear it all the way down the hall.
–the inner curtain (sheer, white) extends across the window but doesn’t block sunlight. The outer curtains only extend partway and cannot be pulled across. Sunlight will wake you in the morning.
–drink vending machines on each floor. Only food vending machine on main floor.
–major leak at the ice machine on the third floor. Water standing in the vending area.
–using the shuttle the following morning was chaotic: driver picked up food (for who?) from the restaurant inside, we left 10 – 15 minutes late. He took these crazy industrial back roads. No drop off at your specific terminal, unless flying international).
Positives, from beginning to end:
–beautiful modern redecoration throughout the hotel
–indoor pool (closes at 11PM)
–courtyard
–bar/​restaurant (11AM-​10PM)
–love the firm or soft pillow options
–very comfy bed, I slept like a rock
–AC works great, can go down to 60 degrees with constant fan (white noise)
–nice TV in the room, decent channels including HBO
–wall-​mounted hair dryer in bathroom
–free shuttle to O’Hare
Would I stay here if American Airlines hadn’t given me a voucher for this hotel? Likely not. It’s pretty far from the airport and there’s not much in the area. But if you’re stuck like I was, it’s not a bad place to catch a few zzzzs.

My business puts me in this place because it’s near the office. I will make my own reservations in the future. When I checked in, they sent me to my room after the front desk made a great show of making sure it had been cleaned, I wasn’t early, they were just checking, I got to the room (long walk) and all of the furniture in the room was on top of the bed including the armchair & ottoman, desk chair, luggage bench — and the carpet was wet. I didn’t complain, just put things on the floor and settled in, but really? That’s how cleaning people leave the room? Ready for the first Republican debate. Television doesn’t work. I’m a seasoned traveler, so I check the plug has not come loose on the back, Whew! crisis averted and the evening is uneventful. Pillows are awful foam, bed is very uncomfortable. Desk chair is broken — you have to sit very low and just overall the place could use some upgrades — but it’s a Holiday Inn for $ 119/​night.
Next morning, I didn’t leave late — I left at 9:30 — but couldn’t get out of there before the housekeeper was already knocking on the door. Rude. Left in such a hurry, I forgot my $ 150 Clairsonic face scrubber and brand new Dior face wash in the shower. Called lost and found at 5pm on Wednesday the following week (I know, but I kept forgetting to call) and had to leave a message. I left the color, the name of what I left, I left my name and visit date and phone number because the message says: «leave details, we’ll call you back,» Shocker — I got no call back. Today, Friday, I called again. I talked to Francesca in Housekeeping who is supposedly responsible for Lost and Found. I was on hold about 5 minutes when she came back and said «I guess I don’t have it. I don’t have anything from that room number.» So overall, if I have to be forgetful, and housekeeping doesn’t bring things to lost and found at Holiday Inn, it’s probably cheaper for me to stay at a nicer properties for $ 200 a night. Right? Did I mention the elevator smelled like hot tar was brewing beneath it?
I won’t stay there again, God forbid the housekeepers come in your room while you aren’t there. Who knows what might go missing.

Listen, I’m not a snob but cheap hotels are not my thing. The «gym» was a broken bike and all purpose machine. We had three people waiting for one treadmill. The pool is directly in the middle of the hotel? Listen far be it for me to critique this brand but even the AC was broken in the vans. Can’t do it again.

This Holiday inn is very nice. It is bright and clean with spacious rooms. It is about 20 minutes from Chicago, so the rates are reasonable and you can still go to the city. There is a decent bar attached the hotel which draws a good local crowd. Food is good and they offer a nice breakfast. Several conference rooms available. The pool is a little small, and the exercise room is much smaller than I expected. Only a few machines, mostly cardio. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this hotel if you want to spend some time in Chicago. It was about a 20 minute drive to the city and much more reasonable rates

I rate places relative to the cost. Had I paid $ 80/​night like other reviewers, then this would be a 2-​star review.
I paid $ 180 for one night in a ‘suite’
On the plus side the room was clean. The temp and humidity were well regulated. It was quiet. Hot & cold water were available. They had 42″ LCD TV’s and a good sat channel lineup. I really liked that when you turn on the tv it starts on a scrolling TV guide with no commercials.
On the negative side, the place was depressingly ancient… Looks like 1980’s or 90’s décor everywhere. And although clean, well used.
Biggest gripe: no blackout curtains? Really? I got checked in around 1am. Got to bed by 2, forced to wake up by 6:30 due to sunrise. And the bed mattress was awful. The shower head was mounted at 5’9″ high, I am 6’1.
Wallpaper in bathroom was bubbly and hanging off of walls. The mattress was more like a hammock. The only waste bin in the suite was in the bathroom?
These are my req’s for a hotel… Must be CLEAN. Must be comfortable. (Good air, good temp, good bed, and soft sheets and warm blanket.). Hot & cold water in the bath, and a big shower. The décor and style are just frills you pay for, sometimes I want those, most of the time I don’t really care.

You will be pleasantly surprised at the value for the price at this property. It is clean, the staff is helpful and friendly. Prompt room service with a smile, breakfast included.
Large rooms, bright enough and quiet for the area but you do hear the planes taking off at nearby O’Hare but you can sleep.
The restaurant connected to the hotel is not fancy but the food and service is good especially the Cobb salad, wings and French onion soup.
When I return to our office across the street I will stay again.

As others have reviewed, the Holiday Inn Elk Grove is a standard holiday inn at very reasonable prices. We booked a room for $ 80.00 after our fights were canceled. Had a great ride in the free airport shuttle with Frank (an odd, but comedic and friendly gentleman). The airport shuttle picks up in the bus and hotel shuttle area (behind Hilton) at door number 2. I believe the shuttle arrives each hour at this location. They also offer a free shuttle each morning on the hour, we took the 7am shuttle with no one else.
The hotel itself is basic. We were quickly checked in, provided several take out menus and assigned room 112 on the first floor. The room was a fair size with a queen bed. Shower had good pressure. Air conditioning was quiet and worked properly. Heat was quick to turn on in the morning. We did not use any of the other amenities, but I believe they have an indoor pool and small gym. There is also a pub and restaurant attached. They have pub food, burgers and sandwiches, and also a great selection of beers with 15 to 20 on draft. The restaurant isn’t five star, but it’s nice to not have to walk outside or taxi for a beer.
Overall, holiday inn Elk Grove provides a nice and cheap accommodation within 15 – 20 minutes from the airport with free shuttle. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if I found myself stranded at O’Hare.

Beds were comfy and rooms ok. Heating and AC is quiet. Furniture had a big chunk of wood missing. Very small bathrooms. The reason for two stars is the makeup air system is non-​functioning meaning you breath in what everyone else breaths out. So in other words, this place is a germ depot. I see this often at Holiday Inn brands and wonder if it’s disconnected in order to save on heating and air conditioning bills.
I originally had a three day reservation but checked out the next morning 11÷11÷14. I use to be a platinum member but lost status over the last two years as I switched to Hilton brands. Not because of the décor, but due to fresh air. Never seen a Hilton yet with a non functioning makeup air system.

In response to your statement that every room includes a PTAC (Package Terminal Air Conditioner) or simply said, room air conditioner/​heater, I agree.
All hotel rooms have one of these climate control units.
The problem with your location and many other Holiday Inns and Crown hotels are the makeup air system non functioning or turned off. This is the little vent that can be found in the bathroom that removes air in the room continuously during all seasons.
This is what exchanges bad air for good air. Without it, you breath in chlorine from pools, germs, dust, grooming aerosols/​perfumes, that build up over time.
The bottom line, it does not work or is shut off at your hotel.
Like I said, the facility looks good and the bedding was great which are very important to me as I travel quite often.
But what’s most important to me is the air that I breath. Without a working makeup air system, the air is more polluted indoors than outdoors.

at 2am and checked in half hour later. Gentleman at the front desk was pleasant and helpful. Room was spacious, nice and clean. Very comfortable with new updated furniture. Bathroom was well stocked and perfectly clean as well. Will definitely return if we are in the area and need a place to stay.

I have to admit I’ve been extremely surprised by the high level of customer service at this location.
Today I started out my day on a low note. The iron in my room was so hot it melted a hole through my pants. I was pretty bummed out. I left a note next to the iron just saying I think it’s time to throw away the iron.
When I returned from working I found an apology note from housekeeping, a new iron, and a new pair of slacks. I was in disbelief as I walked into my room.
I can’t remember the last time I saw customer service at this level. I didn’t ask for a new pair of slacks. They just did the right thing.
I also had a very good experience with my late check in. I was starving on my arrival and there was nothing open to get food. The front desk agent helped me out with some snacks.
Customers are definitely a top priority at this location.

This is an average hotel at a reasonable price. For one night, one room with two queen size beds cost $ 110.28(including taxes). The room and bathroom are clean and the beds were soft enough to fall asleep on. I only stayed here for one night, so I didn’t need something out of the ordinary to make my night pleasant.
The WiFi is free, but you’ll need to talk to the front desk to get the access code. The speed of the WiFi was decent that I didn’t experience any issues with it. I didn’t try to stream any TV shows or movies.
The room is lacking power outlets near the bed. Like everyone else, I prefer to charge my phone on the night stand near the bed. I had to unplug a lamp to accommodate that need, but the outlet was not firm enough to keep the charging dock from falling out.
This is the only hotel that I’ve been too that charges $ 5 (per person) for shuttle rides to and from the airport. The hotel is located about 7 – 8 miles from the airport. I guess that I’ve been spoiled at other hotels that include that for free.

Average, nothing out of this world. Last minute reservation since I got stuck in Chicago. affordable and the room was comfortable.

Spent one night here on my way to a work thing. It’s clean and the night staff were knowledgeable and nice. They have a very small gym that is equipped with one treadmill, one bike and some other monstrous machine that I didn’t understand. It may have been a time machine-​who knows.
The thing that I found weird about the place was that my curtains were fairly sheer and there were no light blocking curtains for me to pull over them. Fortunately, light does not bother me when I am sleeping but if someone were a light sleeper, you would have received a face full of the light from the pool and fitness room all night. I slept just fine but I know others who would have not been able to sleep at all.

This hotel is in the midst of an enormous industrial park in the suburbs to the west of O’Hare airport, it is 8 miles from the airport. They have a shuttle to and from the airport once an hour until 10:30 at night which one can use to gain access to the airport CTA blue line train stop and thus to downtown Chicago (a 40 minute train ride) and they also will shuttle people to restaurants within a 4 mile radius and the mall. Hotel staff are extremely friendly, the hotel restaurant/​sports bar is decent, there is a decent medium sized indoor pool, and the place is somewhat modern and very clean. Negatives are the tiny «gym» (just 3 or 4 treadmills and one weight machine) and, most of all, the location. It seems the only reasons to stay here would be if you have business in the industrial park or want to stay somewhat close to the airport. I came for a training class for my job. There is virtually nothing to do within walking distance, there are just a few fast food places within walking distance as far as food options. If you do stay here, there is a very nice and quite huge park about 2 miles or so west of the hotel, a forest preserve with a lake and loads of bike trails; which is a great place to go for a run or walk, although to get there you have to jog or walk through the sort of anonymous industrial park no man’s land for awhile and then a bit of leafy suburbia before reaching the forest preserve. Since the immediate hotel vicinity has almost nothing to offer, the hotel does a shuttle run to a nearby shopping mall every evening, dropping guests off at 6 PM and picking them up at 9 PM. If you are here without a car, as I was, some restaurants within hotel shuttle dropoff/​pickup range that I would highly recommend are Tori Korean Restaurant (borderline walking distance in the daytime, but walking through the desolate industrial park after dark is a very creepy and lonely experience and not recommended, I discovered this first hand) and a fantastic Bulgarian restaurant and bar called Mehanata. Basically if you don’t have a car this location is very very far from ideal (in fact the location sucks!!!), if you have a car I guess the location is not a big deal. Oh, the «business center» consists of two computers in the lobby and a printer, the lobby computers seem to be quite slow as far as internet access, I suspect they have some viruses or are in need of updating.

4÷30÷2012 arrived on a Sunday, my first stay at a holiday inn, I thought it was going to be bad but it was actually really nice, the hotel has been newly remodeled, nice spacious room, 32 inch flat panel LG tv, and clean, bed was pretty comfortable and they give you a selection of soft and firm pillows, I stayed on the 4^th floor and the planes were a little noisy (I was at a Hilton in Dallas last week way closer to Airport and did not hear a thing) staff is really friendly and the shuttle drivers will take you to a variety of places and are really cool as well, Shelby Cambells is a really cool bar downstairs attached to the hotel

Ok Holiday Inn, let me first say that I personally did not have a room myself, but my Mom stayed here for 4 days and I was there 2 out of the 4. They are rennovating, as they should be. The feel of the place screams for a rennovation. The room itself was nice, pretty cozy. It’s not the Hilton, but it’s not priced like the Hilton either.
HUGE FAIL that the hot tub was closed. C’mon, I mean they decided to book there because of the hot tub. It was closed. The pool was big and nice and warm though. It was really clean and the area was clean also.
The sauna in the ladies room gets nice and hot and I enjoyed that. The sauna in the mens room, needs work. There was absolutely no one in the pool area most of the time we were there, so yes I went into the men’s room (one stall) sauna, and a bit of the wood from the floor was coming up. My friend (guy) obviously shouldn’t step foot in the ladies room so I took the chance lol. Big difference in the saunas… the men’s room one didnt have two level seating either. It was extra tiny without that… you could maybe fit 3 ppl vs 6. SMH.
Towels are mini you need like 4 of them…
The staff is friendly though, cleaning ladies have no problem giving you the extras you need. IF THEY HAD CONDITIONER TO GO WITH THE SHAMPOO, that would BE NICE!!! Hello, how do you NOT have conditioner. That blew me… we ladies need some especially after being in a bleached pool. DUH.
Now the HUGE problem… when our friend from out of town arrived, he was told to go to gate T6 or something, to get picked up by the shuttle. Information he received from the front desk. WRONG INFO. He went on a 15 minute journey and waited, only to find out that that was the wrong place. Guess what?! He missed the last shuttle at 9:30, and my mom circled with the shuttle until 11. Why couldn’t they find him?! Because he was sent to the wrong place by the hotel! Spent $ 30 on a cab ride to the hotel that was 10 minutes away, to arrive at the hotel at 12am. 2 ½ hours AFTER HE ARRIVED.
The manager just gave a blank stare… one would think after all that frustration they’d comp a night, or give them something ESPECIALLY SINCE THE REASON THEY BOOKED THAT HOTEL, WAS CLOSED. The hot tub… no, all they got was a sorry.
SMDH. they need a rennovation and a better system. I’m sure they will not be returning nor would I want to go there EVER.

I was here for a business meeting held in one of their conference rooms. Overall, there was nothing remarkable going on, but the staff and amenities were acceptable. Wi-​Fi went out a couple times during the meeting. The lunches catered by the hotel were typical hotel buffet quality. The bathrooms were clean.
In short: sure, why not?
