701 is a local, chef driven, fresh seafood experience that features an ocean-to-table menu with a southern inspiration. Our creations are made in-house daily. You’ll notice the energy level is high in our building– every day our oysters are shucked by our chefs and our steam kettles are full of freshly prepared stews, gumbos, and fresh seafood dishes. Our chefs create our broiled oysters in front of you at the oyster bar.

Meet the Manager
David S.
Manager
David Scales, Executive Chef
David started cooking at age 15 and has had a passion for food since. David is a graduate of Elon University and Lacadamie De Cuisine. He has worked in acclaimed restaurants Loustalet and LaubergProvençal in the DC area and most recently led the Louisville’s Lilly’s Restaurant to two James Beard nominations. While at Lilly’s, he earned a Best Chefs of America Award each of the past three years.
David is an avid fisherman and steward of the sea. He spent his summers as a child on the eastern shore of Maryland. His great grandfather was an oysterman in Crisfield, Maryland before the Great Depression moved his family to Baltimore. A passion for southern cuisine is also in his blood, and these influences served as inspiration for our menu.
