Pines Country Club of Elizabeth City

Golf course review… (The three posted so far are about the club as a venue.)
This is always a fun golf course to play. It’s in good condition and is easy and challenging enough for whatever type of golf game you have. The golf course from the back tees is 6,700 yards so it still gives great golfers a decent challenge while your average Joe can still have fun moving up a tee box. Shots are straightforward. Nothing blind. The course is fairly forgiving. The greens roll well during golf season.
You’ll hear people yelling fore a lot because errant tee shots tend to end up on adjacent holes.
Some of my favorites:
— The greens on 9 and 18. It’s the same green and are shaped like a horseshoe with water.
— Their commercial from years ago. Does she even work there?
— Staff — the staff is very friendly and they host some great tournaments with generous payouts

Tried something new for Sunday brunch. Salad bar in odd configuration had good amenities and was tasty. Three entrees including a fried chicken that is out of this world and veggies and mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious — even picky kids asked how soon they get to go back! Desserts were spectacular too. Loved the food, atmosphere was peaceful, encouraging conversation. A definite add to our Sunday brunch list!

Attended the New Year’s Eve party with two other couples. It fell short in many ways although you could tell the banquet coordinator had tried. Decorations were great. Seating was terrible. We were packed in like sardines which is not ideal for buffet style eating when people are constantly up and down in their seats. One of our guests chose not to eat because she was unable to get in and out of her chair. No one danced during mealtime so the tables should’ve been spaced out in the dance area then moved when eating commenced. They ran out of dinner plates and glassware less than halfway through the two hour serving time. First band very talented but played way too loud during the mealtime. Food was delicious but not appropriately served for the amount of people. Serving platters were way too small and were empty most of the time. Line came to halt several times when main courses not continually ready to serve. Comedian was too raunchy for the type of crowd. Staff was non-​existent and especially absent in the banquet room itself. One older woman circulated but could not keep up with the amount of people. Bartenders were terrible; young and inexperienced. It’s a shame that the potential for a great evening was poorly planned and executed.

Last night we attended a private function dance at this location.
The hors d’œuvres were supplied by the Pines as was the wait staff for drinks and appetizers. I found the light hors d’œuvres to be good as was the service. The drinks were not exactly up to par in all cases.
My wife’s wine was a house variety which was ok but my Gin Bloody Mary, while large, lacked any garnish and was almost too spicy. An odd touch was that it came in a Budweiser Draft Glass as did the Margaritas also server at the table. Not anywhere good enough to warrant a second round. The shared appetizer fried oysters and shrimp were hot and tasty.
We had a very limited exposure to what the Pines could offer so it was hard to form an overall opinion but I guess we would come back again if in the area. But, nothing was compelling enough to encourage a 90 minute drive back for dinner.
