This is hands down the slowest McDonalds in the entire area. You sit at the speaker for about two minutes every time before anyone even says anything. On several occasions I’ve seen a few cars go through the other lane before my order is taken. Then they’re usually chatting with each other inside at the window where they take your money. Finally after wasting at least ten minutes of your time you get your food. Avoid this location at all costs.

The best McDonald’s in our region. They are really fast, nice and just a great bunch of people.

It’s McDonalds… standard fast food fare. No surprises is a good thing. And this place has not messed up an order of mine(drive through or walk in) and everything has tasted like what I expect.

Everyone, My own imposed rules for any Chain Restaurant review: 1. Must visit at least three times. Two of which must be distinctly different formats; i.e. one weekday night and one weekend night. 2. Since the food should be the same everywhere, with the exception of regional items, the food category will only be judged on the quality of the expected food(i.e. temperature, consistency, and amount). 3. Ratings are based on a 10 point scale with 5 being average, which does not mean bad. What a score of 5 means is that the category meets expectations for that establishments format. Thanks. McDonalds — Larkin Ave Location/Layout — 5.5÷10: This McDonalds is located on Larkin Ave in Elgin, just west of McLean and directly across the street from Larking High School. The store was recently updated to coincide with the McCafe launch and has a very modern feel along with a small area in front of the washrooms and adjacent to the order counter that is laid out like a coffee house. With the retrofit they finally moved the fountain from behind the counter and allowed refills to be self service. There are two drive up lanes, which helps speed up the drive through process but combined with the layout of the building creates an odd parking lot where most of the spaces are a good distance from the entrance; but it is not necessarily a bad thing to get a few steps before or after any meal. Service — 3.5÷10: The rating is not reflective of staff which is always expedient and usually very friendly. The score is due to multiple signs and decisions made by management. First, there are signs limiting the duration of your stay to no more than 20 minutes. While I understand they are located across the street from a high school, this does not create the most customer focused environment. This is even more confusing based on the fact that they built their interior to be a coffee house with WIFI and bench type seating for working on laptops? Next are the signs limiting refills to one per customer but the fountain is self serve? Additionally, there is a sign noting the limit of condiments and charges associated with any above«normal». Lastly is the choice of TV station. I am not picking a lane politically and I do believe in an owner’s right to choose their own stations. But if you want to have news on I feel it should be something like CLTV, The Weather Channel, or a proprietary channel similar to other fast food options so you do not alienate any of your possible clients. Food — 5⁄10: Orders are filled very quick and accurately, especially given how busy this location gets. The two recent issues I have experienced both have to do with the fries. First they are always overly salted, which can be rectified if you request a special lightly salted order. But the bigger issue is that they are always considerably short in volume. For example a large rarely fills 2/3rds of the container. The sandwiches on the other hand are very well constructed and often get close to emulating the pictures of the item. Overall Experience — 5⁄10: On the whole this is a very people friendly and efficient McDonalds. They always satisfy when you have that Big Mac or QPC craving. Unfortunately, I also get the McDonalds fry craving only to be left wanting both a giant drink and more fries.

I gave this place two stars because the food at McDonald’s has improved so much since I’ve actually eaten last. As a vegetarian, I don’t dine on their food too much… usually stick to french fries. Anyway, I wandered in a couple mornings ago for breakfast and tried to order an egg and cheese mcmuffin. Whoever took my order was just plain rude. There was absolutely no one else in line in front of me or behind me– so no reason for the attitude and sense of rushing. First I asked if they served smoothies this early(it was probably 730am). He actually sighed and said, «yes» with a «screw you» tone. Okay, whatever. So I ordered an egg and cheese mcmuffin and a small mango pineapple smoothie. He started rattling off the 8 thousand different types of eggs that can be on the mcmuffin sandwich. I said something to the effect of, «Wow the food has really changed since I’ve been here last. What is the normal, can I just have that?» He looked at me, totally expressionless, and said, «Ma’am, you have to pick one. I can’t put in your order without one.» in his same«screw you» tone. Anyway, when I got it, the food was really good, very improved from my last McDonald’s experiences. Just very frustrated with the attitude of the man who took my order. I know it’s early, but if it’s your job to be at a customer service type job, it’s also your job to be happy about it. I leave my house at 6 am to go to work 2 hours from my house and not get paid for it– and I have a smile on my face all day. It’s HOWTHEWORLDWORKS!
