The drinks are good, if it didn’t take 30 minutes to get it EVERYTIME I’ve gone. I used to go there all the time with my boyfriend but the last few times I’ve gone they’ve literally messed up our checks royally. Not a place we plan on going back to anytime soon.

One star is for our server, who tried her best. We came in on a Thursday night for a quick dinner and let our server know that we only had about 45 minutes. She brought us menus and we ordered right away, but it still took over 10 minutes to get our drinks and about 25 minutes to get our food despite the fact that the place wasn’t busy. I got a chicken breast sandwich and my husband got a chicken wrap, and both sandwiches were absolutely, unspeakably awful. The chicken breast on my sandwich was literally spoiled — as in, tasted so bad and off that I spit it out immediately — and my husband’s wrap was a ton of lettuce and a little bit of chicken all soaked in ice-cold hot sauce. It was so bad he couldn’t eat it, and he is not a picky eater. Bottom line is we ended up paying over $ 30 for one weak drink, one beer, two orders of fries, and two disgusting, inedible sandwiches. We left hungry. Never again.

Too bad i can’t leave a 0. I came here for a friend’s 21st birthday that happened to also be St. Patrick’s day. The bar was surprisingly not crowded. We ordered drinks, food, and shots. The waiter was completely useless in knowing shots, and he seemed to not want to be there. I get it, it’s a drinking holiday, but show a little pride in your job. It came time to pay so i put it on my card and left a fairly small tip because i ordered some drinks and got shots instead and didn’t get respect or good service. I also tipped on card. I look at my statement 2 weeks later and an $ 8 tip magically turned into a $ 38 one. I tried contacting the owners who never called back. I went to the ar twice to try to contact them in person, they never showed up when they were supposed to, and i waited an hour after they were supposed to come into work. I got a copy of my receipt and it was clearly two different hand writings on the receipt and they didn’t do jack to try to fix it. Not only are the staff, management, and drinks awful, their food is mediocre and i could do without it. I vowed to never step into that bar again, and i haven’t. I would 100% not recommend it to anyone for anything. WORST bar i’ve ever been to. I really don’t know how they’re still in business.

Walked in and waited 15 minutes to be seated. Eventually we seated ourselves. Wife went to the bar(since we had little confidence that they noticed that we sat down) and ordered drinks. After waiting at the bar for another 15 minutes(on a Sunday afternoon with less than half capacity) we FINALLY received our first drink. Then we searched out menu’s on our own since we STILL hadn’t been approached by staff of ANY kind. We searched the limited menu items and finally chose our meals. At this moment, our first contact was made with the wait staff. She was very apologetic, however many patrons seemed to be having the same experience. At this point we order our meals and the waitress ends the conversation with, «I’m sorry, but we cannot promise that this order will be served in a timely manner».(This meant within 1.5 hrs.). On top of this all, drinks were EXTREMELY overpriced. A 22oz Blue moon was $ 8 and a 16oz Sam Adams Octoberfest was $ 4.50. Food was maderatrly prices but service was horrendous. I would NOT recommend this establishment to anyone especially if you are on a timeframe.

Let me start by saying that this place is owned by a family friend. Needed to get that out there and I have to be honest. This review is after dining 3 times here and I hoped that by my third visit, I could write a better review but I can’t. Food is nothing special, just your regular bar type food and a bit on the expensive side. Good selection of beer and specials. On the plus side, there are TVs everywhere and this place is HUGE! You can’t miss a play because at every angle you turn there’s a TV. Great place for a crowd to watch the Bears for sure! With ECC blocks away, they need to cater to college kids and offer cheaper food options too. Hope this place lasts.

Wish I could leave 0 stars for this establishment… Walked in to bar to meet another couple for $ 0.49 wings as advertised outside. Couple we were meeting had already been at their table for 45 minutes and had not yet had their food when we arrived. After sitting down at table for about ten minutes the food(well most of it) arrived. 12 Wings, a Reuben Sandwich and Pizza was ordered. Pizza did not come out with rest of food and server did not acknowledge that Pizza was missing. After asking about the pizza the server just shrugged her shoulders and walked away. it took another 15 minutes for pizza to come out and when it did it was an 8″ MICROWAVABLE pizza. When asked what delay in pizza was for server claimed there was multiple orders of food ahead of the pizza(Thursday Night at 1030pm and 5 people in the bar. 1 of which was eating wings) and that is what caused the delay and to relax because it was not her fault. It was at this point that our server actually got physically disgusted with our inquiry and scoffed before walking away mid-sentence. Now mind you, while all this is going on, my girlfriend and I have NOT been asked if we wanted to order food or drinks at all by server. So 25 minutes of no service from staff had me go up to bar to order a beer. Service at bar was no better but par for the way the evening was going. Waitress finally comes around to table after being summoned twice for bill for Microwaveable pizza, wings, and Reuben. Most restaurants will take off a meal or at least apologize for delays, bad food when complaining but not at the Hangout, Check booklet was tossed on the table and server walked away. Girl who ordered pizza who is mild mannered and very quiet actually pulled waitress to the side after paying the bill to just let her know that it might not have been her fault but she could have at least apologized or comp’d the pizza to which Server said its not my fault and started arguing with her. So to recap– Wings — highlight of trip but in essence just a shiny spec on a pile of shit Reuben– Chewy, gross and not worth waiting 50 minutes for Pizza — would not be surprised if it was a half microwaved Tostino’s pizza that took 60+ minutes to get AND still wasnt good or edible Beer– need to clean their lines as 1 Stella caused GF to get sick Service– Might need to re theme bar as a Dick’s Last Resort or Ed Debevik’s style restaurant to get away with«service» like that This place cant close down soon enough. DONOTEATHERE.

Well this is the place that hope goes to die. The bartenders do not know how to make an honest drink. You can’t make a dark and stormy? Really? And then your jack and coke is more like coke with a splash of jack. This can be overlooked… BUT this place uses canned freaking meats. Are you serious! You use canned chicken for your quesadillas. Yes it was Def canned, cubed chicken, this place needs Bar Rescue or something. Then between the music that drops the f bomb more than I do. Then you put on some local live band that sings«music» I have actually had bowel movements that were more harmonic and in tone. Yea we didn’t get to-go boxes, and yea I wouldn’t go back here if someone was paying me too. Seriously I wouldn’t go back if I was passed out in the back of a car. I have been to good hole-in-the-wall bars and everything inbetween. Their food is like slow acting cancer to your taste buds. Oh the guiness was ok. This bar is the STD of bar culture.

This place has come a looooooooong way. Upon first coming here when it opened it was nothing more than what you would find at colonial café. However if you walk in The Hangout today, you have live DJ’s(Love DJJD and Grime Theory) people to talk to and shoot pool with and the specials of course! If you’ve never been to the hangout before but know where it is you might say oh that little place? No it’s big, half the bar is underground. The main floor is the huge bar with the games and slots. The basement is the dance floor and the second bar. The food is also great and not super expensive. However more menus options would be good. Also please put the DJ’s downstairs where the dance floor is! It’s awkward when everyone is crowding the pool tables trying to do the chicken dance lol. Bathrooms: Great Food: Good Crowd: 90% ECC Students Parking: Plenty

So today would have been my second experience at D Hangout, Except we got up and left. What got me to come in was a mailer sent to my home which advertised these 2 deals: $ 1 Hamburgers and $.99 Tacos«Everyday 11am-3pm only». It also contained this statement: «Savings that will continue Every Tuesday & Thursday, well after the Superbowl». So on my first visit I noticed these things. The $ 1 burger was advertised on the sign at the street. The outside of the building did not appear to be very well kept. Broken glass, a discarded lime, a lot of cigarette butts on the ground, well within the 15 feet from the door as required by State law. We noticed the décor and set up was exactly the same as it was in the previous rendition of the bar, before it was D Hangout. We asked to be seated in a Booth. The first visit no comment was made about this. The second attempted visit, we were told(THEBARWASEMPTY) «I usually don’t open the back of the house this early, but I will now». What? There is no one else here; we are sitting in the booth RIGHTNEXTTOTHEKITCHENDOOR. When we went to order burgers the first time, we were told we had to buy drinks, I pulled out the mailer and said, it does not say that here or on the sign. The waitress/bartender says«I’m too busy to discuss this with you, so I will let you have it this time.» The other issue we were told about at the table was the requirement to buy 3 tacos min. Mind you the mailer said none of this, so I consider it a bait and switch. It is also not that I mind these, but I do not like being lured in and then being told when I am ready to place my order, with the general attitude as they are doing me a favor by allowing me to get what they advertised in 2 different places. The service was ultra slow. Most people on lunch have to be in and out within 35 – 40 minutes. This concept did not land here. 30 minutes to be served, another 25 minutes to have the check dropped and my card returned. We were never followed up on for refills or to check how things were. I still left a 20% tip. On my second visit which was today, I came in prepared to by the drinks, but we knew what we wanted, so we ordered a burger and 3 tacos each. The Waiter/Bartender told us that they were no longer serving $ 1 burgers. OK, so we will have 5 tacos each and waters. The serve time was reasonable. But what was served to us were very small Tacos, with a tablespoon or less of meat each. I looked at these tiny tacos, we waited for the waiter to come back, and I said«Hey Brother, does this look like a reasonable amount of meat?» The waiter says, «Those are the MINI Tacos we always serve». So now the next bait and switch is they are not Tacos, they are mini Tacos. The waiter asks me «What would you like me to do?» I said«How about adding some meat to these 3 tacos?» He said«Well that is how we serve them.» Then why did you just ask me what I would like you to do?! Let’s also remember this is Elgin, there are more Mexican Restaurants here than any other type. Not hard to find a VALUE in Tacos in this town. TACOBELLTACOSHAVEMOREMEATTHANTHIS! I say«I don’t want this food, I will go eat elsewhere». Response ‘ok’. What the proprietors have lost here is that they SPENTMONEYTOADVERTISETHIS. To get people in who have never been there before, to create an impression so they come back. YOUFAILED. You have shown you have no integrity, along with a spirit that says its all about you, rather than us.

I don’t understand the bad reviews at all. Our server was quick and courteous. The food was awesome! Had wings and the black and blue burger. I live in Saint Louis and was in town visiting family. I will be back here for sure.

My favorite sports bar in Elgin. They always have deals on numerous drafts & $ 1 tacos everyday during football season. Great bartenders & waitresses. I love this place. Pool tables, video gaming, live music, live DJs. Fun joint.

I went on the opening weekend and the place was packed. Mixed age crowd, plenty of room to stand or sit and super long bar. Our server seemed to be drunk & also took forever to get our drinks. We ditched the opening weekend and went somewhere else for the night. Went back last night(11pm) to kick off our Friday night hoping it would be some kind of interesting. Nope. Just one unattentive bartender and a weird DJ yelling randomly into a microphone and old ladies in cheetah shirts dancing wildly around the«dance floor». The once packed and spacious bar has become a hollow room filled with«regulars» that go to every other bar in Elgin. I never intended to sit at a table, but they had at least 3 servers on and only 1 bartender. She didn’t seem rushed or very attentive. Thankfully I received service within a minute of sitting down, but I saw one man wait 3+ minutes. Never going back again. Don’t waste your time.

Manager actually ask me to write a positive review and he would give me a free drink. Trust me that is the only way this place would get one from me. Too many problems to even list.

So disappointing to see the same dregs of Elgin as the last place attracted. Why are you using the same mediocre bartenders that have bounced around every bar in Elgin? Who do you think comes to see these folks? Weird mix of Asians/thugs/old dudes across your bar. Maybe that’s the theme of the place, hodgepodge… I don’t get it and neither will other patrons with teeth. Also your music sucks. Either play your own or get better people to choose the juke tunes. I ate a Reuben sandwich on the recommendation from the bartender and it was terrible… salty few slices of chewy corned beef does not make a Reuben. I give you 6 months before your management, lack of advertising to a better clientele and incoherent front signage does you in. The second star is for the piano bar downstairs that no one knows exists. The player was actually talented and carried a wealth of music in his head to satisfy the few customers that accidentally found the place. Dreg bar/piano bar? How about calling bar rescue before it’s too late? The area needs a decent place to go!

Came in because karaōke was advertised on the Facebook page. Bartender says they might have it, might not depending on the crowd… Don’t bait your potential patrons and then not follow through. There’s a potential for this bar being really successful if they listen to what the patrons want and can reliably deliver. On a different note there’s a great piano bar in the lower level. Come in on Friday or Saturday and chill with him. Beer prices are a bit on the mid-high side but I’ll pay premium for good beer. The draft selection is good and the bottles are a pleasing variety as well. I’ll keep coming back and see how they get it together.

Very nicely done. This place used to be streets ofChicago. Now it’s D Hangout and it is soo much nicer than before. All new bar, menu and layout. I had the«killer deol«burger and it was absolutely delicious! 10 oz patty on a pretzel bun topped with ham and pastrami. Elgin needed a nice bar. Thank you for not opening another hole in the wall!
