Obviously, dealing with the death of a family member is challenging in and of itself. Families have an expectation that the funeral home they select to handle their loved one will do so with dignity and, most importantly, in accord with the wishes of the family. Unfortunately, in our situation, Smith and Witter made a significant mistake. When we approached them to discuss the issue, they were defensive and then ceased communications. Most importantly, we asked for an apology, but one was not forthcoming. This saddens me. If someone makes a mistake, they should own up to it. This is especially true here as this was simply an issue of the family making a request, Smith and Witter representing that they would comply with the request, and then Smith and Witter failing to comply with the request. If a company cannot make good on a mistake, by issuing a basic apology, they are not worthy of future business.

My family could not have been happier with the services provided by the Smith & Witter staff for my father-in-law’s funeral yesterday. Katrina was wonderful to work with. Despite arriving at their facility without an appointment(that was due to our poor planning) she never-the-less graciously squeezed us into her busy schedule, answered our questions, offered to take care of all arrangements to have our loved one moved from another funeral home, and worked with the National Cemetery in Sacramento to arrange the military burial our family wanted. So caring and accommodating she was able to work within our very modest budget to provide a lovely service that everyone was extremely pleased with. Our family chose a military tribute casket which included an Army logo inside the casket lid. Upon receiving the artwork Smith & Witter determined that it wasn’t up to their standard so they replaced it with an upgraded version of the image at no additional cost to the family! It was beautiful and even more than we expected. The chapel there is small but lovely and suited our needs perfectly. On top of it all we were happy to do business with a small, locally owned business that was able to provide such wonderful and personalized service at an affordable price. I would highly recommend Smith & Witter to care for your family should the need arise.

This review is for TIM, who took care of my friends family at this very sensitive time. He was very patient, professional, and compassionate. He was always very attentive and understanding with the whole service. In filipino tradition there are a lot of few things that we have requested but he did not make us feel at all uncomfortable, he respected our culture and he accommodated every request. He guided my friend through this whole ordeal and made them feel at ease during this already difficult time. Tim is a blessing to this funeral home and an asset. Keep it up TIM!

Kelly and the staff were wonderful. The services for my father were beautiful. Kelly made me fill as if I was being guided by a friend throughout the entire ordeal instead of a perfect stranger. I appreciate the compassion that was shown and the attention to all the details.

Kind, practical, pressure free and affordable. Kelly and Heather helped me make the perfect arrangements for my husband’s cremation. These folks are sincere and decent. I recommend their services highly.

Forget the high cost of dying. Smith & Witter has been a blessing to many friends and family. Eric and his staff work within your budget and are respectful and patient which is not easy when you are dealing with grief-stricken families. The chapel is small but well-maintained and newly remodeled. Highly recommended.
