The Boat Sushi & Thai Restaurant

You can’t beat sushi and Thai delivery! They also show up sooner than quoted, and it’s solid food for the price. We’re delivery regulars.

Upon the recommendation of the front desk of the Marriott residence Inn close by, my husband and I walked to this restaurant. Wonderful food nice people. We had the kryptonite sushi roll for an appetizer. It was just ok. I had the yellow curry with rice, excellent!, and my husband had the drinken noodles, also excellent! We will definitely eat here again next time we are in the area.

I am not sure how this resturant has good reviews. I am visiting LA for a business meeting. I was craving sushi so i ordered. The tempura dipping sauce smells and tastes like fish grease! Yuk. The sushi roll tasted like they fried it in used fish oil as well as the tempura veggie batter. Maybe they ran out of oul and are now reusing oil. This is not ok! The coke was extremly flat and came in a plastic bag. Wow! They refused to issue any refund or at least make if over with fresh oil. I threw it out and now have to see if my bank can force them to give back my money. What a waste. I caution you to NOT eat here no matter how hungry you are! Now my hotel smells like fish oil :-(Extremly disappointed.

Came back to the Boat for a second chance. What a great experience. Everything was totally different. Service was great sushi chefs were awesome and Courteous. I will absolutely come back. Thank you for such great service.

This is an interesting place — it serves Japanese food and Thai food. Usually, when I see a restaurant that tries to be a 2-​in-​1, I can’t help but feel a bit wary. Luckily, the food here was pretty good.
I am here for lunch w/​some friends during the work week. We all ordered something off the Thai side of the lunch menu (I wonder why no one got someone on the Japanese side). I had the Pad See Ew, which is my usual go-​to at a Thai restaurant. The lunch special comes w/​a bowl of soup, some rice (your choice of brown or white — no extra fee if you choose brown), 2 fried wontons, and your entrée. My pad see ew came with plenty of chicken and broccoli… and I was actually able to convert my lunch special into 2.5 meals! Not too shabby :) My friends had the pad thai and the eggplant– both of which I heard were yummy.

My boyfriend and I live nearby and this is our go-​to place! There are so many choices and everything we’ve had is tasty. If we are feeling like sushi, we get the Bento boxes. For Thai food, it’s the green curry and pineapple fried rice. I’ve also had the noodle soups and enjoyed them. The mango sushi roll is a perfect appetizer. It’s nice too because the staff is friendly and remembers us each time we come in. Not food related, you have to check out the amazing salt-​water aquarium and the beautiful fish and corral. Enjoy!

This is my go-​to when I’m busy at work and couldn’t decide what to eat. The guys who deliver my food are super friendly. Both sushi and Thai menus are good… I haven’t tried anything that’s bad there

Let’s admit… good Thai places are hard to come by because they truly are a dime a dozen in La.
So today, I was craving yellow chicken curry and I found The Boat on my lunch break.
A couple things… the curry is richer than most. By no means is it watery! It is packed with flavor and has a pretty solid consistency. There can ALWAYS be more chicken so minus half star for that and it was a pricey lunch special at over $ 10 with tip so minus half star for that. Let’s be honest, there’s Thai places with 5.95 and 6.95 specials, but they probably aren’t doing their curry like this place for lunch.
Overall, it’s easy to get to and I will definitely be back to try Pad Thai and my other favorites! :)

Just finished my first visit here.
Was a very good experience. Was immediately seated, waiter was attentive and took out order quickly. Food came out in a reasonable time. I had the Rainbow Bento, which has soup, salad and some rolls. Miso was great, salad was decent, and the sushi was very good.
Will most likely return, price was reasonable and ambiance was definitely a nice Asian fusion.

I had zero plans of going out to lunch today, but my colleague wanted to bail on work for a minute. Needless to say, I was on board! Anyway, she said she had this weird craving for something with rice. So, on a whim, I suggested this place since I’ve never been here!
We went early enough so parking was not a challenge at all. We got seated immediately which is always a plus. Menu + Water was given to us within seconds.
I found the place a little dark for my taste, but, whatever.
I wasn’t really in the mood for sushi, so I only paid attention to the thai part of their menu. We ordered the soft shelled crabs as a starter. I got the beef panang lunch special (L13) and my colleague got the silver noodles with beef (L4.)
The soft shelled crabs came with its dip and a small salad. The dressing on the salad was pretty good. The dip, however, didn’t work very well with the soft-​shelled crabs. So, I requested for tempura sauce. What a difference THAT made. (I’d recommend this to anyone ordering this.)
Lunch specials come with soup and wontons. The soup was flat out bland. The wontons were what I expected, nothing special. Same with the beef panang. It was pretty good, but just like the wontons, it wasn’t out of the ordinary.
I tried my friend’s lunch — THAT WAS GREAT. I think I’m going to order that next time!!!
The service was also pretty good.
Overall experience was okay.
NOTE: It got pretty packed within 20 minutes of us being there, so that says a lot!
Will definitely give this place another try.

Thai & sushi together? That made me feel a bit iffy already but my bf wanted his last sushi meal before he left to Indiana so we stopped by. Upon walking in, there was only 2 or 3 parties in there so we got seated right away. I got the Pad See Ew and he got the Kryptonite. Let’s just say we’ve had much better with both and for much lower prices. Pad se ew came out very mushy and my bf didn’t care much for his sushi. Our server was great and attentive though! Wouldn’t want to come back though.

Im sad to be writing a bad review for this place. I was a regular and have been coming here for years but they have so many new faces with bad attitudes and terrible customer service, I’ve had to update my review from a few years ago. The past 3 times I’ve gone, I experienced thee worst service & the last time I went, I was disgusted with the servers attitudes. (not one, but 2 female servers)
One even began to ignore us on purpose, avoiding eye contact. Apparently, there was «no manager on duty».
I had no choice but to ask the busser for help and made sure to give him a good tip.
The food is good but the bad service makes you want to go elsewhere. I suggest they train their employees better on customer service and being polite. Staff should ALWAYS BE POLITE.
My advice: Thank your customer and promote a positive, helpful and friendly environment. That will ensure they leave with a great impression. A happy customer will return often and is likely to spend more.
Get out of the hospitality business if you cant adjust.

Sushi is great and with some saki hot or cold. Best if you can make it during happy hour. And the Thai dishes are pretty good too when you want something different.

Having lived in Arizona for about 30 years, I’ve experienced my share of not-​so-​good sushi. However, our sushi this evening from The Boat was probably the worst I’ve ever had.
We’d been traveling all day and really didn’t feel up to eating out, so when the concierge at the hotel told us there was a sushi place near by that delivered, we were pretty excited. The bento seemed like a good way to go, with several combinations to choose from and all running about $ 14. My oldest daughter ordered the vegetarian sushi bento, youngest the sashimi combo, and I ordered the «King of Kings», plus we ordered the yellow tail nigiri for a starter.
The yellowtail was the highlight, with the fish being firm and mild, and it came with a citrusy dipping sauce that was actually quite nice. The miso soup had a nice flavor as well, though it was a tad on the salty side. The salad in the bento box was pretty standard, with a light dressing and plenty of crunch in the lettuce.
The rest of the meal was a fail. The California rolls had almost no flavor whatsoever, and the avocado in the avocado roll seemed to have passed it’s expiration date. The sashimi — completely inedible. I watched as K-​2 took her first bite of fish, then quickly spit it back out. «Mom, I think something’s wrong with this.» I held her meal up to my nose, and something was definitely off. The tuna was clearly old and a bit dried out, and the shrimp had a strong odor to it. I touched a few pieces of fish, and they ranged from dry to sticky to mushy. I sunk my teeth slightly a slice, and was greeted with something quite atrocious. I’m still in shock that some of the pieces made it into a sashimi meal — it wasn’t simply «not fresh»… it had gone BAD, and there is no way that the sushi chef couldn’t have known it was bad. I’m not sure what some of the other cuts of fish were, and there was a roll in my box that I hadn’t yet tried — but after tasting and smelling K-2’s sashimi, it pretty much concluded the meal. Luckily, our hotel had a small grab and go that sold hot pockets, so no one went hungry.
The best part of the meal was our kindly delivery man. For him, I give this place an extra star.

Food caused sickness. Please do NOT go here! Nasty, and Overpriced food.
I came on a Friday night 8:30 p.m. 12/​19/​2015. I searched Unilocal for the closest all you can eat sushi for date night. I looked like a fool when the waiter told me they do NOT offer «All You Can Eat (AYCE) sushi on Friday or Thursday. Each sushi dish was an unreasonable 12 plus dollars min. on the menu. Plus just for AYCE it’s a min 30 dollars each which is the highest price I’ve ever seen ever. What a rip off!
To make matters worse we ordered one shrimp pad thai to share. The shimp was over cooked and rubbery, and it was salty and oily and made my date sick last night and this next morning. Luckily I only took one bit and refused to eat more so i didn’t eat anymore. My date wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt and not make a scene by asking for a refund or reorder. Unforunately she sufferred for it. We are on the way to the doctor’s office now this following morning. She is still sick with and upset stomach. If it gets worse or becomes food poisoning I’ll update this post.
The waiter and service was okay, but the nasty sickening food and this cheap GM owner desicion rule to save a buck on AYCE was the absolute worst about this place.
Never come here.

Great place to have sushi rolls. Best selections and portions. Non of that small little rolls that you need 20 to get fill up with… fast service.

It’s decent place, close to work. I could give 3.5 for food and 4 for service.
Got pad kee Mao and king bento.
Pad Kee Mao shrimp… A little too much soy sauce and 4 shrimp (for extra $ 2 if you replace it with chicken)
King bento — decent size good flavor (I’m not big on sushi so can’t rate it)

The King of kings worth every penny, especially during Happy Hour 3pm — 7pm
