Slow service, delicious drink. Cigarette smell overpowered the bar though. I feel like they need the smokers to be standing farther from the door.

Friendly local bar. I came here for the Purity Vodka. The bartender Annie was awesome, great customer service. I didn’t have to wait forever for a drink like other bars. All of the patrons were super friendly. Overall a great time!

Great spot for after party. They have a pool table if that’s your thing. Cheap drinks and plenty of people to socialize with on the weekends! Definitely recommend if you’re looking to just hang out and chill.

Absolutely the worst place to get a drink. I came in on a night where the place was less then half capacity and I stood at the bar for 15 mins while trying to get attention from the 3 bartenders working that night. All of them where so rude, and once I finally got my drink the bartender threw my change at me. Needless to say I definitely wont be coming back

I’m a sucker for a well made cocktail and this place hits the spot. Fun little bar! The atmosphere was nice, awesome blowfish lamps and other tiki artifacts… Really cool place. I’ll be back!

This is a cute little dive bar… Not very big. Drinks are pretty good and reasonably priced. Bar tenders are nice. The place has 2 pool tables and a juke box. There is a karaōke stage in there also but I’ve never been when there is karaōke. All in all if you like dive bars check this place out!

A unique experience with great decorations. Puts you in a whole different state of mind once you are inside. If something was bothering you when you walked in, just start looking at the walls, ceiling, etc and start to wonder what those things are and how did they decide to hang that there and this over there. The bar has items in it as well so you’ll keep your mind busy reading and relaxing. Speaking of relaxing, if you like a free pour bar, you’ll like this bar. Tip well and you’ll drink well. This is a great thing. They also have pool tables and live entertainment on certain nights(check our their schedule). Looking for a good drink and a place to relax? Go on into the Purple Orchid and enjoy.

Liked their drinks a lot, and the menu had a good variety of Tiki drinks. Wasn’t crowded when my boyfriend and I met up with a friend on a Friday afternoon. The bartender was working alone though, so she seemed pretty irritable even when we saw a few people just try to make genuinely friendly conversation. Wasn’t overly Tiki-set, which was nice. It was also fairly clean. Give them 4 stars ’cause their drinks were yummy, and give them another try on a future visit to LA.

Older scene. Besides the tiki stuff on the walls I wouldn’t have even known this was a tiki bar. Great music! Here on a Saturday summer night around 10pm and not much going on. Mediocre energy and not much to look at if you are a guy. Yet it fits the mold of a local dive with cheap drinks.

Oh how I loved the Purple Orchid with there quirky Hawaiian themed décor. This is a great place to take some friends and hide away from everyone and get your drink on. Definitely cheesy and divey in a very good way, but service is unpretentious and friendly. Great drinks!

The coolest Tiki bar west of the 405! Very relaxing, go in here on a Friday night or Sunday day and get lost looking deep into the eyes of the tiki. You’ll escape into the lush wild embrace of the palms, and think you’re deep in the south pacific, minus the humidity and pesky sand flies. Drinks are good and strong, check out their special drink menu for all of the crazy concoctions. You might even get a flaming Tiki Punch if you dare. One of their other specialties is the watermelon mai tai, always made with fresh juice. Only downside, like some bars they don’t serve lemonade or iced tea to make an Arnold Palmer, so if you’re designed order a virgin something else. no food(besides chips) but you can ask about ordering in food and they’ll suggest something. Otherwise, eat before you come here rather than chugging hard drinks on an empty stomach. Beers aren’t bad either, if a little pricey… $ 6 for Stella. Sometimes they even have live music on the little stage, and those nights get pretty crazy, check their website/FB for info. The rest of the time, it’s jukebox only but selections are pretty fair. Bartenders are friendly and quick to learn their clientele and their drinks. They also have 2 pool tables for your 8-ball needs… Make your way over and tell them Brian from Irvine says hi.

Pros– Casual tiki bar with good drinks. The place is decked out to create a tiki/tropical feel. Cons– They could use a good cleaning, you’ll find the floors and tables to be a bit sticky, possibly from drinks being spilled. There are not enough bartenders so you may wait a while to get your drinks and you need to go the bar to order your drinks. I would go back for the tiki vibe and specialty tiki drinks you can’t really find anywhere else in the westside. I give it 4 stars for being unique and the good tasting drinks. Good place to go with your friends for a fun time in a different environment!

I’m a fan of tiki bars. there’s something about the whole shtick that you just gotta love, cheesy as it is. comfortable atmosphere, cheap pool tables, and strong though moderately priced drinks. the Mai Tai was well-made and service was really fast. seems to attract a big after-work crowd. while I doubt I’d be back in the area any time soon, this is a good place to kick back and enjoy a drink.

The positive: 2 pool tables, golden tee, chill spot. The negative: the drinks were terrible. Really bad. They do not do the«tiki bar» theme justice. No fresh juices used. My mai tai was lousy. tasted like artificial pineapple juice. My French 75 was made with non dissolved granulated sugar, artificial lime juice, beefeater gin, and luke warm champagne. If you want a beer, go for it. But if you a looking for a tiki bar experience, pass.

The service is absolutely the worst! My friend and I walked in, sat at the bar. After making eye contact with the«bar maiden», she didn’t even acknowledge us. In fact she walked past us at least 2 – 3 times to deliver beers to guys at the end. We stopped her, asked for a couple drinks and even though we thought she was going to bring us our drinks, after a a while we looked over and noticed she was making beers for other people who walked in after us! We waited about 8 more minutes… Still nothing… then decided to walk out. 20 minutes of nothing is just too long to sit… So disappointing, the atmosphere seems cool but the service sucks and it’s only a Thursday…

I remember coming here a few weeks ago… According to my girlfriend, I also ordered a pizza here, took a taxi from here to LAX, went through security and boarded a plane. I woke up on the plane. Have you ever woken up on a plane and thought, how did I get on this Airplane? Apparently, I also got lost going to the bathroom, spilled my credit cards all through security, fell over collecting the cards and top of it all meowed my way through the first class section. Wow, I did? I had planned this visit to the Purple Orchid well in advance due to a 7 hour layover at LAX. The Purple Orchid may not have been my dream Tiki bar to visit in the area, but its proximity to the airport was a perfect match. Having read all the reviews beforehand, it was a true pleasure to arrive early and see the locals(I mean legends) I had read so much about. I felt like I already knew them, what an honor to be amongst them. I started with the Navy Grog and I was more than pleasantly surprised with the drink,(an earlier reviewer claimed it tasted like coconut) mine tasted like a Navy Grog. Mai Tai, another variable complaint drink, was pleasant and well balanced, if there was pineapple in there it was hidden away from me. Captains Grog, a little fruity for me, but it tasted great and wasn’t too sweet. Three drinks in and no Tiki mugs, sad, the drink monkeys did help alleviate that disappointment though. Next was the Tiki Tea, a tall glass of delicious trouble which that shifts bartender created, it tasted just like it sounds. I finished off with a Scorpion, my least favorite of the night, but still above par and quite easy on the palate. I don’t think I finished the Scorpion… For not using any fresh juices other than lime, these drinks were very very good. I am still baffled as to how these drinks were so strong and still so well balanced. I heavy hand these drinks all the time and usually have a lot more of them per sitting. Hat’s off to the Purple Orchid, I won’t soon forget how much I forgot.

My favorite el segundo bar… It’s a tiki bar small, they don’t sale any food but you can order from other places or take some there. There are 2 pool tables that get busy at times because the games are only .50¢ but that’s super cheap and you’ll have a great time. It’s a chill spot for locals caters a bit more to the old crowd here. If you ever go bar hoping in el segundo make sure that you make a pit stop here though. Bartenders are usually nice and the restroom has always been clean and that’s a huge plus for me.

In the tiki, tiki, tiki room strange things happen to Barbie and Ken. They’ve been sacrificed to the Tiki Gods to pay for our sins so we could drink a cocktail called the Scorpion out of a flaming bowl. Bras are thrown over a hanging puffer fish. It’s a different kind of party at the Purple Orchid. Kitschy, retro, throwback to an era almost forgotten but thankfully preserved.

Tiki bars are like holidays — you don’t come across them too often and when you do, it’s a place reserved for special occasions. For instance, we were going here because we were visitors from out of town looking to have a good time. The other group in the bar was celebrating a birthday party. I was a few drinks in when I looked at the menu, so I am not sure what the selection was actually like. I can only comment on the two drinks we had — the volcano versions of the Scorpion and Mai Tai. To me, the Scorpion was a little bland and didn’t taste like much. To everyone else, it was ‘really strong’. I thought the Mai Tai was delicious but was ‘really strong’. By the end of the night, I think everything was ‘really strong’ because we left pretty tipsy! Décor and details here were on point. Tikis were lined along the perimeter and umbrellas and plastic monkeys lined are bowl of alcohol. I’d come back here in a heartbeat! But only for a special occassion :)
